    Awesome video. I have watched 6 videos about this job and none were this detailed. And the seatbelt around the steering wheel was a great idea to add.

    This was a great video. However, I am having a problem reconnecting the steering shaft coupler to the gear box. Do you have any tips?

    Don’t you have to flush the fluids since you’re changing the gearbox?

    if you're replacing the pitman arm at the same time there's no need to remove it correct??

    • @mannydad
      @mannydad  Před 6 měsíci +1

      You kinda have to. So you can bolt up the new one

    Would 4x4 process be any different

    • @aceofspadesc991
      @aceofspadesc991 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Yes, the 4x4 components make it much more difficult to access the parts. Aside from that, the only specific difference is there is no room to get the pitman arm puller on the steering gear side of the arm. You have to pull the arm from the drag link and remove the box and pitman arm as one piece. Pulling the pitman arm from the drag link was a pain for me, the pitman arm puller wouldn't fit over the drag link so I had to use a 3 jaw puller in 2 jaw configuration to apply pressure, it still wasn't budging so I heated it with a torch and after a while of heating it, it popped off rather violently. If you go this route make sure your face is not in line with the puller when you heat the arm.

    • @mannydad
      @mannydad  Před 4 měsíci

      Just a bit. There’s less room. But you can wiggle in.

    What size motor, was this the 4.8L? Just trying to double check mines is the 4splines as well, is there a way to check before removing? Actually trying to replace most of my front end when i do this.

    • @mannydad
      @mannydad  Před rokem +1

      This was a 4.8. But sometimes you can try to look at the grooves closely while it’s still bolted on. It might be a little tricky.

    how did you make sure that the new steering box was centered?

    • @mannydad
      @mannydad  Před rokem

      Just remember when you remove it. Which way the pitman arm is pointing at. That’s why the pitman arm has 4 grooves in it also.

      I seen someone turn it all the way mark where it turned on the shaft an on the box then turn all the way the other way an count revolutions then mark where it stopped then divide how many turns in half an put it in the center of both marks while counting the revs you divided

    • @SydWaters1776

      A new or rebuilt one should come centered from the factory.
