Aventon Aventure: Tired of Pedal Strikes? Crank Arm Replacement

  • I consider this the "Actually" episode. No idea what got into me but I ACTUALLY say it A LOT!
    I love my Aventon Aventure, but I hated all the pedal strikes I was getting. I found a video where a guy was talking about going from the stock 170mm crank arms to 152mm crank arms. I gave it a shot and have loved the results since day one. I like to take my bike off-road often so pedal strikes are no fun, and actually dangerous.
    This video shows you the step needed to replace your crank arms. I like the gearing on my bike so I just kept the factory sprocket and put it back on. If you decide to order the 152mm crankset, it doesn't matter the sprocket size because you won't need it.

Went to a bike shop and was told so much dishonest info all for the sake of selling me a different bike that costs almost twice as much yet missing many features. So been using your videos and google to better educate myself while waiting for the my aventure to arrive, from a novice rider I thank you immensely.

      @@scotthardesty Thank you. While I had an old ROSS eurosport step through 10 speed when I was younger. That bike had long crank arms. So I ingrained at a very young age to lift the inner turn side pedal away from the ground. I had learned way quick, that ground strikes with those metal pedals tended to send them out from under your feet and the opposing pedal around to eat your leg. Im just looking for a way to counteract this turn resistance from the hub motor. Not having much luck. Happy riding, and thanks for the helpful tips.

    To each their own, but if you actually pedal your e-bike and use it like a bicycle, shortening your crank arms significantly limits your pedaling efficiency and your legs will fatigue much more quickly. Those long crank arms are for leverage. Pedal strikes are easily avoided by not pedaling through turns, like the pros do. As for hitting your toes on the front tire, proper foot position is to put the ball of your foot on the pedal, not the mid portion. That¡s why cleats for clipless pedals attach to the ball of the biking shoe. Personally I think shorter crank arms is a big mistake, but that’s just me. We all ride our own ride…

    • @scotthardesty
      @scotthardesty  Před rokem +2

      going from 170 to 152mm is not a huge difference. I have put over 700 miles with the short cranks. It just the way this bike is designed with a very low center that makes your pedals much lower. I get it though. Guaranteed this video will help a lot of people. It did me. I pedal all the time, and the biggest difference to give me that extra clearance when I hit the MTB trails is that shorter crank. I know, I know, I should learn to ride a bike, but I totally happy with changing out this crank. Thanks for the comment and Enjoy the ride!
