RHONDDA HERITAGE PARK Black Gold Experience underground tour

This is a wonderful place to visit and the authentic underground tour is a must. The site is the former Lewis Merthyr Colliery which ceased production in 1983 and is now a museum. There are plenty of fascinating exhibits on the upper floor. The ex Collier (Graham) that took us round was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I even found a dead Small Tortoiseshell butterfly on the floor in the mine which may have flown in via a ventilation shaft to hibernate (appears briefly in the video)? The food in the cafe is excellent and there are shops selling a variety gifts.
