For those having issues: 1) MAKE SURE you reached rank 17. This is what unlocks the new focusing option. 2) Scroll to the 3rd page (to the right) in the Focused Decoding menu. If you don't see 3 menus, then you haven't done #1.
Update: For those of you that stored Engrams from either old Legend/Master Lost Sectors or Vex Strike Force, those are confirmed to auto-decrypt when you claim them from your postmaster and (can) decrypt into the newest exotics. I've been getting different reports on how it works and unfortunately I can't say for certain since I didn't prep any of these engrams. How I see it: L/M Lost Sector engrams "follow" the old rotation of a daily exotic slot, even though that is no longer the case. Today is Chest (supposedly), so you have a high chance of getting the new chest pieces from those engrams. For Vex Strike Force engrams, they seem to be able to decrypt into any of the new ones. (The reason I didn't prep any of these engrams is because players after-TFS couldn't get these, so it wasn't an adequate representation of how players could obtain the new exotics.)
Additionally, apologies for the "click bait" title. "Instantly" is, I guess, too loose of a term, even though it fits the situation. Not a big fan of click bait, so I try not to include it unless it has a lot of truth in the words. I think the title does.

If you just do the campaign on legend you get one of them for free.

This is ridiculous. I’d way prefer doing lost sectors, since they will be a far smaller time investment. I didn’t know this was in place so I didn’t save up any exotics. Which just sucks to know that it’s going to take me so much longer to do it. Main thing I wanted in the campaign was the rocket titan exotic, and now I’m going to have to wait forever to get it. Absolutely absurd
You can just complete the legend campaign and choose it
Typical destiny whiner, lost sectors was way more boring and for the braindead and no grass touchers, the game aint going anywhere its not hard to acquire the resources necessary just focus on ranking up as you play and thats it….in time you will be able to be worse nerd and get exotics quicker than you can finish a menial lost sector

@@Enkeh Yeah found that out after. Happy about that! Still not a huge fan of leveling the cryptarch, but I guess it would be easier to get the exotics for the other classes. Not requiring me to grind levels to do the legend lost sectors
I did tier 2, reached level 17 really fast. Got all 6 new pieces for the 3 guardians...

If you run out of engrams you can get engrams from legend lost sectors now (they don’t auto decrypt anymore)

I got the new Hunter chest exotic from picking up an exotic engram from my Postmaster I had banked.
I got all 6 items just by regularly decrypting exotics. didn't have to focus them at all. pulled them from postmaster
Did those exotic engrams just auto-decrypt when you pulled them from your postmaster? Were they from pre-TFS Legend/Master Lost Sector farming?
My clanmate had old seasons exotics in post. When he pulled it, it was a new one.
I also had a similar experience, but some of my postmaster exotics turned into adept mods which was really weird. What was even weirder was that one of them turned into just an enhancement core

You’re telling me the only way to unlock unearned exotics is to reach level 17 with rahool or get lucky on Neomuna? Feels like something is missing because the average player isn’t going to do all this.

What do we need them for other than upgrading exotic gear? The tier 3 focusing is only to get exotics you don’t already have which you probably shouldn’t be doing anyway just get it from lost sectors etc

Stupid question I'm sure: How do people have 5 exotic ciphers? My character only has one and it says max. I have one in my postmaster that won't let me pick it up either.

By "tier 2 focusing" you mean precision decryption, right? Do you know if we need the DLC to buy DLC exotics at the 'novel decryption' stage?
yes (Bungie uses Tier 2 and precision decryption interchangably). And yes, you need to own/have access to the DLC to get the DLC exotics. However, once you obtain those exotics (say during a F2P weekend), you can then focus them forever.

Maybe someone can clarify for me. It says to unlock the item in collections. I know some people get a choice after the Legend campaign but I did mine on normal. Will it unlock when I reach rank 17?
Rank 17 unlocks the 3rd page of Focused Decoding. There you can choose any exotic, even those you haven't unlocked yet. (this is the method to unlock new exotics)
I don't have a third page in the exotic decoding.. is this my fault or just a weird bug?

yes. New exotics are always tied to their relevant expansion.

@@Commander_Pika it’s the only exotic on the page at all, I don’t have very many titan exotics so there’s quite a few I haven’t collected.

That's....so very odd. If you or @glitched-user8334 could send me a screenshot (since I don't see that). Otherwise, post on the bungie help forums. I'm going to "try" to play on my alt-accounts this week to do more exotic testing to see if I can re-produce the bug.

You still need to own the expansion the exotics are tied to. So you would need to own the Forsaken Pack for that one.

Took all day to get 3 or 4 missions in, and I gotta say I hate the stupid little puzzles in the campaign. Didn't know missions were raids now lol
You still collect 3 exotics per character for doing the usual crucible, gambit, vanguard stuff. So there's that on top of it

Once you reach rank 17, Focused Decoding will have a 3rd page.

Did they just kill lost sector farming?
Lost Sectors will now just drop exotic engrams. So this system gives you the flexibility of being to choose what you want as your reward and you can farm LS whenever you want. The tradeoff is that you need prisms/shards/ciphers as a focusing currency.

Nah. It's way better in the long run. I Already have him lvl 8. I'll be able to get this and all new exotics moving forward without doing any lost sector farming.

Ehhh...I preferred if it still dropped in lost sectors. Having to grind rep with exotic/prime engrams is more tedious than lost sector farming.

I havnt been able to login for over a week. Now theres a 30+gb update and more waiting. All to just loyin and go "meh" then log off cus nothing has changed

I mean, instant rice usually takes 5 to 10 minutes and you have to have it at home to make it, which means you went out and got some to be "prepared" for when the time came. So your comparison of "instant rice" to obtaining these exotics is actually spot on. (But in all seriousness, noted.)

Absolutely . Usually they let ya play an introductory mission and then want their glimmer to continue . Best to wait until they figure the day one issues before purchasing imho . Never expect to play on day one or two of a new d2 expansion . Good luck bud

Bungie for all their creativity still can't seem to get out of their own way when it comes to exotic armor. They throw exotic weapons at us at every turn, but armor....oooooh no, that's special.
