I lived in a small western New York State town, and their volunteer firefighters all had blue lights on their personal vehicles. I saw blue roof lights on a pickup truck that looked like it was held together with rust.

If you’d be interested in some good visor bars that’ll last you a good 5 years Atleast then I’ll comment my email. I sell lights all day full time. If you got a fleet, then you’ll want something better and brighter. Just reply and lmk. Thanks.

What state are you a volunteer firefighter in? Laws differ state by state and where I'm from in NY, we only need a signature from the chief as a notice of written permission. NJ is different I believe, but again it depends on the state laws. Check with your department too, they probably have mentioned something related to POV lighting in their policy.

    • @MadiganTech
      @MadiganTech Před 3 měsíci

I suggest googling "Blue lights law in (state)". This is NY:
      4. Blue Light. One blue light may be affixed to any motor vehicle owned by a volunteer member of
a fire department or on a motor vehicle owned by a member of such person's family residing in the
same household or by a business enterprise in which such person has a proprietary interest or by
which he is employed, provided such volunteer fireman has been authorized in writing to so affix a
blue light by the chief of the fire department or company of which he is a member, which
authorization shall be subject to revocation at any time by the chief who issued the same or his
successor in office. Such blue light may be displayed by such volunteer fireman on such a vehicle
only when engaged in an emergency operation.
^Granted most members never receive written authorization here. I never heard of any issue, but if there where, everyone at least carries their department ID.

      I agree with that.
I think it’s because the law specifically says that ONLY chiefs and deputy chiefs can run red/white red/green in personal vehicles.
Just decide on a standard package, and honestly as a taxpayer, I would be HAPPY to provide the standard package for firefighters who show a need.

They really need to just choose a standard, and provide them for departments/firefighters that show a need, then send a PSA and teach in drivers Ed what that particular lighting kit means, so they know if some firefighter goes crazy and abuses it, I also would be HAPPY as a taxpayer to pay for them and include the transponder that gives the green as long as you guys yield when the light doesn’t change or there is a stop/yield sign, they are returned when you no longer have a need, and to appease state police, inspect them once in a while so they can rest assured you’re using the standard issue lighting kit…
Beside, you’re saving lives and you deserve a free toy for your kid’s birthday party or whatever.
With all this tech nowadays, if they’re really that paranoid that fellow first responders that go through a battery of background checks and training just like the police and are trusted to take peoples lives into their hands… literally… if they’re seriously that paranoid they can even have a device that activates and logs the times you turn them on, and the chief or the police can just glance at the log and go “yep, that seems like a normal use” or “why is this guy turning it on for 15 seconds every 28 mins? Maybe, I’ll ask him why he uses it so much when there is no fire or he isn’t working?”
