Want to join sailing? How to get a crew position and what to consider.

- Have you ever been curious of crewing on a sailboat? It can really be a fantastic experience but it might seem difficult to get there. I try to sort it out and explain how I feel about having crew sailing. Me? CZcamsr sailing Sweden in a Comfort 32. Leaving home port i started my CZcams sailing channel 2021. Join me and my small budget sailboat with a big passionate dream to sail away, enjoy every moment and share it with others.

Great advice. Nice you are offering crew positions. Always hard to find and keep crew. I joined club racing for 12 years. Had a lot of fun. Best to be dedicated and show up for all events. Help out when it your boat's Race Comittee Night. Also suggest get on as many boats as you can /want. Really learn sail trim and getting a boat to sail fast racing. However, high stress and can be a lot of work. Some nights, just didn't feel like working that hard and would rather cruise.
Yes, I learned I didn't like racing that much.. but glad I have done it😀

Hi Tilda, great video, very informative! I live in the east coast of Canada and am trying to find a way to get to Europe this coming summer. I sailed for several summers when I was a kid but can't say I remember much and it was in a small lake, so I was wondering if what you said about very little required experience for crewing also applies for longer trips like across the Atlantic?

I know people think very different but for me on such long passage I'd say experience is requires since it is a big responsibility to have people on board and they need to trysted to make good desicions since you are not always awake

I think you are doing a very good job of living your dreams. I would like to sign up as a crew but due to problems with my knees it is difficult to fulfill at the moment. But maybe in the future... If you visit the Netherlands (or Belgium) while sailing south, you can always contact me. Maybe I can show you some of the country (and culture).

I wonder how old or how young one must be to join a crew on those large sailing ships, since I have no experience, I would work for free 👍
Hi! I'm not sure since I don't sail tallships,but I think they mainly have paying crew (as they teach you as well) and only very experience crew can join free or be paid.

Well, to begin with it's an opportunity for Patreons and I sometimes invite additional crew, but everybody is of course expected to pinch in for food etc
@@sailingtilda Of course I'd gladly pay for food, gas, upkeep, etc.. But if I was a Patreon with every sailing channel, I'd never be saving any money for my own boat :)

I had a hard time hearing too, but I turned on captions and that helped a lot.
Sorry! I don't have the external mic set up 😔 but thanks for feedback. Normally I listen at a couple of different speaker to check sound but it seemed ok here do don't know if there is something with the uploading🤔
