Fish curry is popular in Bengali cuisine. West Bengal is a state in the eastern part of India and people living there are known as Bengalis. For the Bengalis fish is an essential part of their diet. No Bengali meal is complete without fish and rice. Usually fresh water carp is cooked daily in every Bengali household and it is made in a very simple way using just the basic spices. In this video I showed you a Bengali fish curry recipe made in a special way yet simple and quick to make. I have used salmon but you can even use fish with bones and any fish of your choice. Ingredients required for making fish curry -
* 570 gm / 1.3 lb boneless skinless salmon or any fish of your choice. Apply about 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, sprinkle of salt and one teaspoon of oil, to the fish and rub in very well.
* 1 medium to large onion finely chopped
* 5 cloves of garlic or 1 tablespoon finely grated
* 1 & 1/2 inch length ginger or little less than a tablespoon of grated ginger
* 1 teaspoon salt or salt to taste
* 4 tablespoon tomato puree or 2 large ripe tomatoes pureed in your blender
* coriander leaves(cilantro) or parsley for garnish
* 3 to 4 tablespoons oil. I used mustard oil but you can use any oil of your choice. If using mustard oil, heat the oil on high heat till It starts smoking and then add the fish.
For the spice paste -
* 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
* 1 & 1/2 teaspoon Kashmiri red chilli powder or paprika if want to avoid the heat
* 2 teaspoons ground coriander (dhania)
* 1 teaspoon ground cumin ( jeera)
* 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
Serve this with hot steamed rice.

Didn’t listen to Bumbi. One of the nicest curries I’ve ever cooked but one of the hottest. Even though steam coming out my ears and eyes watering I couldn’t stop eating this dish! Will definitely do it again ❤

Thanks for sharing. I followed the link that said DELICIOUS BENGALI FISH CURRY - for some reason I assumed that Bengali fish curry includes potatoes in the gravy - but this one looks (and I bet tastes) yummy too. I’ll follow your simple recipe - can’t wait to try it

Being vegan my family doesn't eat fish but it's looks like a great way to try out with tofu. I'm always looking for ways to make tofu not look and taste like tofu, the masala looks really tasty and the method appears very straightforward.

Even Mrs. Bumbi loves fish but Mr. and son does not. Being a Bengali I love fish but unfortunately do not get freshwater carp where I live so salmon is the only fish I buy.

I am preparing this again today but this time I will be using salmon. Last time I made it with shrimp and it turned out Devine. I know it will be just as delicious with fish.
