The colony that we removed from the chimney with Hannes from Bee-a-live ( • Save Bees From Inside ... ) started to show signs of not doing well. We found that they were being overrun by wax moths and suspect we caught them just in time.
We very quickly moved them from a 10 frame Langstroth beehive to a 6 frame nucleus removing all the frames with the wax moth on and cleaning the frames with bees and brood.
A few days later we took a honeybee colony from a trap out ( • Trap Out Bees From a C... ) we had been doing that seemed to be queenless and introduced them to this small struggling colony. This boosted the bee numbers in the colony and in addition, we fed them some 1:1 sugar syrup.
The honeybee colony has done superbly well and after another 6 weeks, we were able to move them to the apiary into a 10 frame concrete hive. The frames were full of brood and we could see that the colony is about to double in size.
We successfully helped the bees overcome the wax moth problem and they are now thriving.

I have never seen wax moth so severe, the biggest problem on the Gold Coast is Hive beetle
Generally, we see terrible wax moth in abandoned hives. Thanks for watching.
My kids want to know what 'brood' is?
Bees go through the same lifecycle as butterflies. First as an egg, then larvae, the cell is capped when the larvae are big enough and can pupate into a bee. Why are you beekeeping in the dark?
The bees we are working with are not always but can be very aggressive and we take the necessary precautions to ensure the people and pets in the area are not in any danger. By working in the dark we are able to control the bees with lights and smoke. Thanks for watching.

Did you end up saving the bees? You shouldn't use the infected comb. Chances are the moth already laid eggs in it. Just move the bees and not the comb. Thanks for sharing
Yeah, bees were saved. We do regular inspections and remove old comb and replace with wax sheets in a very short cycle. This also helps get the colony strong as the queen lays well in fresh comb. I have also found wax month in an active hive is quite rare, normally they take over a box once the colony has absconded.

Hey Melissa, Thanks for watching. I leave the frames out for the Honeyguides to peck at and then I submerge in boiling water and easily scrape and clean them ready for full wax sheets to be inserted.
