The curved leaves may have a correlation to the use semi hydro. My clemensiorum has flat, straight leaves in soil. My vitellinoides also had flat and straight leaves, but when I chopped it and propped the cuttings in leca, every new leaf has grown to maturity cupped like your clemensiorum.
I do wonder if the margins of the leaves have a more finite growth capacity, or perhaps they harden off faster compared to the center, causing the cupped appearance when the center tissue expands beyond the capacity of the leaf margins.
P.S. I am totally propping my clem and restarting it in leca!
P.P.S. I love my archboldiana, and it was yours which inspired me to buy one.

ON does a hoya NEED a trellis so tendrils will put on leaves? In my experience NO. The first hoya I have had the longest did not even have a trellis for about 25 years and she got HUGE long and gorgeous. Actually one long piece broke off when I was first bringing her home and same for that piece that I left long and rooted and grew. I have sent so much of this plant off to share because she gets so big and heavy I have to trim her back. She for sure does get leaves on her long tendrils. Maybe happen faster when trellised. My little hoya stand I created from an old card rack,TOTAL GOOFY but works, can handle smaller trellises on top tier but the lower two rows will be much better with trailing hoyas.
