  • OK, so this wasn't from a Betamax tape, it was from a Philips N1700, but I thought I might as well keep the naming convention. Lots of ads and (mostly) Granada continuity from 1978-79, and a full edition of Hickory House into the bargain.

British advert voice-overs are so relaxing.

Lots of good stuff here including ads from my childhood. Highlights for me are Pat Coombs voicing the perfume and: "Shouldn't be allowed!" and the animated colour Granada ident into Hickory House.

By pure chance I’m watching Hickory House 40 years to the day that recording was made. And what’s more worrying is that I can recall the taste of Secret Agent sweets immediately on seeing the wrapper, despite not having thought of them since 1978. Thanks for the upload.

If someone had told me when I was eight years old that in 43 years time I would be watching old episodes of Hickory House on a MacBook.
I would have said What's a MacBook? This is the nearest thing to time travel.

1978 was the year of the American bubblegum invasion. They fascinated be because at 10p I couldn't dream of affording them but the advertising made me really want them.
