relatable.
The saying that went around when I was a boy was
“ when they’re young & little boys like to play with soldiers & girls like to play with dolls. When they grow older it’s the opposite”
And she did :)
A wife like her only comes around once in a hundred years or so... truly an extremely blessed man.
Mrs Hinton is my dream woman.
What a lovely hobby! Wonderful to have a wife to play and share with you.
Beautiful, and a woman to share your hobby! He was a lucky man indeed. Had to chuckle at the narrator's 1:40 "British frontier fort" (you mean Hougoumont?).
That's a good eye you have for Waterloo buildings 😁
@@martonk there is a pretty famous painting of that scene to be fair and it was a defining moment in the battle, very surprised the narrator couldn’t see it
If it wasn't for the French opponents I would not have dismissed the idea of a frontier fort. That wall did not really appear to be part of a solid Brabantian farm such as Hougoumont or la Haie Sainte. Soil is too dry, too sandy also.
Yeah, it's obviously Hougoumont.
expensive authentic gear, all the miniatures a man could want and a cute little number he gets to dress up in period appropriate outfits to really get in the mood.
damn...this guys got it made.
Living the dream!
>"And these fierce fighting Vikings!"
>Dude clearly made Gauls
I was gonna say, I love how the napoleonics are supposed to be accurate as hell but the pre gunpowder stuff is subject to being hundreds of years off
@@magimon91834 I was about the say the same.
But at the time early medieval times and before were basically fantasy.
And they wear the damn horned helmets.
@@apalahartisebuahnama7684 The helmets are correct, the problem is that none of those guys are Vikings.
I started collecting Hinton Hunt 25mm back in 1970. Still have them. Now, I collect 15mm...over 10,000 at this point. Great hobby...it never gets old
Absolutely.
you're a legend mate.
Marcus Hinton died in 1988 in his mid-fifties. So he is only in his thirties in this movie.
His wife's name was (or is) Cynthia and she was a former artists' model.
So you're saying she's available!
@@gstgst6334 Let's estimate she was 30 in 1966 so born in 1936. 88 years in 2024. She could still be available if you like to take care of elderly women.
Note that I checked her hands to estimate her age.
Good lord, what a well crafted and beautifully war-painted model in traditional regimental attire.
And the miniatures aren’t bad either.

The closest I ever came to this was 1980s Battletech, with about 50 figures on a topographical table. The hobby shop owner had it set up in a back room for Waterloo, as he was a big old school war gamer, so he played these type games, they took days. Much beer and arm chair history.
Those were top-of-the-line in the 60s. Today, most collectors and painters turn their noses up at them. I collect them, though, along with Staddens, Rose, and other figures made back then. They still paint up nicely.
@1:46 That's not a "British frontier fort", that looks like the defense of Hougoumont during the Battle of Waterloo.
@1:48 Looks like Prussians from the Napoleonic wars, marching past their Austrian allies who offer a salute.
Yes my pockets were never deep enough for 25mm For me the humble 15mm won me many a battle lol
Proper couples bonding!
I still have his book from 1966.
im surprised not to see Lloyd from Lindybeige leave a comment
We have some beautiful crafts, I grew up collecting Hornby trains and I still keep them around.
Can’t believe this guy played for the Oakland raiders and made miniatures. And I thought Peter Cushing was the only wargaming polymath.
Christopher Lee, Edward Woodward, Derek Guyler and Henry Cavill.
When the set designer goes nuts!
Producer:"yeah, we're going to put these decorations in place."
Manufacturer: "But, I just look at the books"
Producer: "It'll look cooler than your warehouse, ok.
Also do you have larger miniatures?"
Manufacturer: "Most of the time i sell 15 maybe 25mm scaled figures"
Producer: "Psssst, the camera cant pick up 25 millimeters!"
and so the 50mm range was born
She is taking this so much more seriously than him
The ideal couple doesn't exist-
THE WORLD BEFORE TOTAL WAR SERIES:
Cool as. Those figurines are really detailed! Thankyou for sharing.
Superb. What a great couple.
The days when a gentleman dressed in tie, waistcoat and jacket to work on his figures. They had standards back then.

Damn, lead figures and enamel paint in a room, what a great combination
Lovely piece of film.
I remember those days clearly ❤!
Lucky man ;-) Great video!
Thank you Absolutely fabulous insights Darling ✨🌼🌿🍄🌞🍄🌿🌼✨
It would be awesome and cool with battle sets and and paintings.
"Here's a British frontier fort under siege"... Love it. Unusually for a journalist, he got it completely wrong.
Probably just reading from a script without seeing the film.
Handling all that lead with your bare hands. Oof.
Oh and they disagreed on rules even back then? War. Was never changes.
This quote aged well as we know from the fallout series.
I got lucky and found a 5 pound bag of them but they weren't made by them and weren't that detailed. It costed me like $70 for that!
Imagine paying 2.50 for a painted war hammer model lol
Flicking lead particles everywhere as he sculpts...
0:18 bro those finger nails tho
Gross ha
Nasty, he should either trim them or paint them or trim them.

Wow, this video is also very good. Why does it have so many fewer likes than the 1970 one?
This looks really fun to play with my cousins in mexico
video: talks about how acurate these figures are
vikings: hello! we have horned helmets!
And this still happens. I just got a couple of sets that offer horned helms as options. Now there are enough heads to ignore those and every thing else seems accurate, but why?
From the clothing, the severed head, etc. -- more likely that they're supposed to be Gauls
They are Celtic warriors. One wears a La Tene cuirass and the other wears the "Belgic" horned helmet from the Thames.
1:22 are gauls
I was just going to say the same thing.
How to win?

All I can say, is thank god for agrax earthshade and nuln oil.

Yes GW arrived and ruined the hobby in my humble opinion.
She's a 8/10 for a Britain though...
I usually dress down to paint I'm surprised they're so dressed up
Do you know where I can get some aluminium toy soldiers? I can't seem to find any!
1 and 9 pence for a miniature !!? Games Workshop loves inflation !
damn,thats nice,heh.
Now they cost like 40 to 60 dollars each.

SPIIIIIIIIIIIIIINCAAAAAAAAAASTEEEEEEEEEER
What scale are those?
I wanna say 22mm, I think, but I can't tell exactly in this video.
Please tell me I can still buy these figures?
Its called robbing, very simple
you can still make them yourself if you buy lead and melt it. But there are other alternativs like tin, otzer metals or resin.
I found quite a few on Ebay. Available from the USA (could be from the company that bought some of the moulds) or the UK (probably original).
@Timothy Branford , Sir you can buy molds for these figures from Prince August Molds or you can now get them 3D printed in resin.
And that lasted about two weeks until Mr's Hinton discovered the milkman.
Who was way better at tabletop wargaming.
