    Imagine saying “crap nobody cares about” about Sidney Bechet, one of the most influential jazz artists ever. 🤦‍♂️ Big yikes.

    Speaking of great jazz musicians of the 50s/60s that are still alive, I was shocked to learn recently that Lou Donaldson is not only still alive but only semi-retired. The man is 95 as of this comment

    Love the honesty in your videos - which pressing is good, which one is bad. I have good portion of these (the good ones), so I agree of course.

    Great video and collection.You're clearly very knowledgeable about these pressings.My issue with audiophile philosophy is that there always seems to be an underlying snobbery about the"sound" of the records almost over and above the artists and the actual music itself.The frustration doesn't end there.For most mortals ( myself included) just streaming these artists on CZcams is about as far as I'm ever going to get to actually owning a copy of many of these (I'm referring mainly to the Jazz records here) because they've so frickin hard to get hold of ( even reissues)..so to hear you slagging off all the "lesser" pressings calling them " a piece of crap etc" , whilst an honest opinion, just makes my heart sink, because I'd probably settle for these any day of the week, just so I can have a physical copy on vinyl in my collection. ho hum, I'll carry on dreaming I guess.

    An absolutely jaw-dropping collection. If your man ever needs a lodger or house-sitter let me know!! I'm assuming that a guy with such a massive audiophile record collection would also have a suitably impressive stereo to play them on; next time can we waft the camera past the guys hi-fi. please. as a lot of us are (sadly?!) interested in that sort of thing!!

  • @intergroovedistortion7787

    • @Claude1Rochon
      @Claude1Rochon Před 3 lety

      I'm holding a 1991 copy of the CD and it does specify AAD. So the vinyl is Analog... probably Very Fine sonic presence. BUT...and this is from my own experience. The first Cassettes are likely to be the best option for Fantastic sound ...that is of course if you own a top notch Deck. Geffen would not have issued cheap Cassettes...his name was on the block...and Cassettes are notoriously HARD TO FAKE. which is not the case for LPs.

    Would love to hear your thoughts on those Blue Notes from the late 1997-98 with the yellow hype stickers. I've seen 10 or so titles in that series, mostly the warhorse classics. Discogs says they were plated and pressed at RTI, cut by Ron McMaster at Capitol.

    There are always exceptions, but to me, it's best to buy original AAA recordings. I don't trust reissues, esp. these days. I don't want any digital in the production chain. I hate CDs, etc. I see you have a Dr. Feikert TT at the shop. What speakers and amps do you use?

    @neldinsky Před 4 lety

    Guy, if you want to keep your viewers, don't say "crap no one cares about" refrencing a particular artist. In another video you said "it's a Portugese pressing so it probably sucks" or words to that effect. People who watch your videos are very specific, vinyl fanatics, detail oriented and sensitive. Your opinion, while it is important should not include insults or degradation of jazz artists or specific countries. Do you get it? I think your great, but those comments go a long way. Thanks for the great reviews! Best, NB

  • @Claude1Rochon
    @Claude1Rochon Před 3 lety

    Imagine buying all these records and spending so little time listening to them...that something "more important" comes along and you decide to part with all of them !!! what a bummer ! ( but then again...a collector who specializes in modern reprints almost exclusively, is bound to feel very little pain if anything at all, for them when the shit hits the fan and you have to recoup as much of your money as possible ) WHICH IS WHY i stay away from re-issues as much as possible with the exception of widely acclaimed re-mastering jobs. Not a good investment. This guy probably lost ten thousand when he resold. Anyway...why would you buy tons of records that you have little time to listen to ? Vinyl Revival Craze ? I'd rather own a pristine Piper at the Gates of Dawn from 1967 than 20 re-issues and NOT ONE noble litho Cover.
