  • In this video, I will show you how I disassemble and reassemble unsealed BMX Hubs. Almost all unsealed(Loose bearing) Bicycle hubs are very, very similar to this hub. This video will help you with axle replacement, Bearing cleaning/lubing, Hub adjustments, and more.
    If you are working on a rear hub and need to get the freewheel off, check out my last video on

    My mission is to keep more bicycle riders in the sport.
    Whether you can't afford to take it to a shop,
    you don't have a way to transport it to the shop,
    you don't have time to take it in for repairs,
    or you just want to learn to fix, repair, and upgrade your own bike,
    I will help to keep your bike running smooth and you riding longer.

    i tell u what dude i should not go ever again to a bike shop cuz they are very pretty expensive and lazy , my front wheel is making a crank noise and i believe something went into the hub and took in to them to see , and returned with the same noise, i will get one new axel and replace myself. never again go spend money on them. best video ever

    Great video, I wasn't even too far off really. You cleared up some things for me. With that being said I think my only questions are. What kind of grease do I need to use? And how many bearings go in each wheel

    • @thebasementbikeshop2336
      @thebasementbikeshop2336  Před 5 lety +3

      I like to use park tools polylube 1000 or automotive grease. It seems to last longer although lithium grease will give you faster roll because its thinner. As for bearing count, It depends on the wheel. I've taken apart many wheel with different size bearings and the number of bearings varies also. Basically, If i take a wheel apart that is missing bearing, I try to put in as many as i can fit in comfortably. Thanks for watching! I hope this helps.

    I have watched a few of these bearing service videos, but they all lack one aspect, and that is how do you replace the bearing cup in the hub. These do suffer from corrosion and pitting, so how do you remove the old worn cups? Peter Smith Australia.

    how often should you grease a loose bearing hub?

    • @thebasementbikeshop2336
      @thebasementbikeshop2336  Před 4 lety +2

      Depends on how much and where you ride. When i rode unsealed bearings, if i only rode in dry conditions, mostly street and park, i cleaned and greased them every couple months. If i rode through rain or mud, every couple days.

      I don't think so. You have to get a new hub because if the way the bearing race connected to the hub are designed

    is it safe to say that a 13mm cone wrench is a must-have to do this job?

    • @thebasementbikeshop2336
      @thebasementbikeshop2336  Před 3 lety +2

      Some cones take a 15mm and I've even run across one that was 17mm. Most Are 13mm and Yes, a cone wrench of the right size is a must have to do this. I did once grind a 13mm wrench thin when i was young and didn't have a cone wrench but i don't recommend it.

    so all i have to replace is the axle. On my tire. I have a bike that my cousin just had to turn to shit and I'm trying to fix it back up. one of the problems I'm having is the screw part on the tire where bolts and pegs attach to is very stripped and the nuts wont tighten all the way cause of it?

    • @thebasementbikeshop2336
      @thebasementbikeshop2336  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes. All you should have to do is replace the axle. Usually that is caused by over tightening the axle nut.
