Im a single dad of two boys in sports, how do you find the time and energy to run such a large loft? I only have 20 rollers and that takes all my time cleaning, feeding, flying, breeding... Lastly, any advice on avoiding losses to Coopers Hawks?

      CS DUSE most people that have dark blue check birds or even light check and bars tend to be some of their best birds in the air. Be careful breeding them together. Breed to Recessive reds, Ash red checks or bars. Look up Johnny Reyes channel on here and watch his videos with John Van Brock also watch the Richard Apadaca videos all 3. Smitty also has a video with Richard.

    Nice explanation bro. I read that the actual difference between grizzled and mottle birds is the fact, that in a mottle the individual colored feathers are COMPLETELY colored and in grizzled the feathers have colored, as well as white on them. Can you confirm that? Also, I'm wondering as to How one can make an Almond? What do you need to breed together to produce it?

    • @blueribbonracingloft8063
      @blueribbonracingloft8063 Před 4 lety +1

      Tahsin A. Alkhuwaiter you cannot identify a breed of pigeon by its eyes. You can have any color of eyes in any breed. Some breed are more likely to have a certain color then others. Like Oriental Rollers usually only have pearl eye except true white or recessive white which has bull eyes or black eyes. Homozygous grizzle can be pure white but will have pearl eye. Racing homers have pretty much every color eye except true pearl eye. Birmingham rollers have every color of eye. So you need to be more specific as to what you want to know..

    @nicksevdalis1277 Před 4 lety

    Thank you for that.
    Just a question about the colour Yellow/Lemon?
    Can you explain?
    Is that a dilute of brown?
    It Is recessive!
    There is also a "colour theory" that others discuss about the Colour Inheritance in pigeons but they state that there are Three basic colours: Red, Blue, Brown with the Red being most dominant and the Brown least! This was proposed by an American man. Has this now been abandoned?
    Please advise us.
    Thank you for your recordings as they are great!
    Keep well.

      @@amyesworldcatherinesminime7945 I totally agree. I love the pigeon hobby and try to learn all I can. I look up to people who truly try to help educate others about the sport. That being said it also bothers me a great deal when someone is teaching information that is absolutely incorrect as it misleads others and when you try to explain it to them they fight you on it and say so and so says this and they know because they publish videos about it. I can say this. If anyone doesn't believe what I'm saying I challenge them to do what I did over 30 years ago and research and learn. There are several books out there on genetics. Also a few very good web pages. The best I seen is Ron Huntley's web page. I will say this. If anyone thinks they know then put your money where your mouth is and read his web page. Print out each section and study it. Start teaching correct principles and stop doing more harm then good. That's it my rant is done. Thank you.

      Just over 10 years ago, 2 feral pigeons chose our balcony. We hosted 5 adults (they formed 4 pairs over 5+years on a rolling basis) 4 squeakers were hatched/fledged. I was smitten. Read as much as I could. Found Ron's site back then. It's great but very detailed.
      FFW to now. I have my own house pigeon. Researching ramped up again. If you haven't seen it already I recommend Adam Archer's channel. He breaks it right down.
      And hey - rant on, sir! :-)
      If you don't learn at least some genetics when breeding you'll find a heap of trouble ahead. So many don't know about lethal genes...

    Hi there. I thought I’d let you know you have your color identification wrong. There are only 3 colors in pigeons. Ash red ( most dominant) blue/black ( next most dominant) and brown which is recessive. It takes 2 genes of brown to make a brown cock and only 1 for a hen. Cocks carry 2 color genes and hens carry only one. All other colors are not colors they are modifiers or masking genes. Grizzle if bred to another grizzle will throw more white with each generation until you have a pure white bird but it will have a orange or pearl eye. Recessive white has bull eyes. Your comment that a silver or red bar hen will have brown flecking is incorrect. A red hen cannot have flecking because she doesn’t have a second color gene. A red cock can if he carries blue or brown as his second color gene. If he carries red then he cannot have flecking. Also you mention in your opal video that you bred 2 opals together. You shouldn’t do that with dominant opal or Almond. They carry a recessive lethal gene. If you double up on it you will have eggs that don’t hatch, young that die for no apparent reason in the nest and if one survives most likely they will be blind or have very poor eye sight and they won’t live long. I can go in depth with all modifiers but it would take forever. Look up Tom Barnhart web site and he goes in depth with the scientific symbols and everything. I know a great deal about color genetics however there are those that know more then me. Kenny Davis for one and he lives in Cali and has a feed store. I want to say it’s Pomona Feed. You can also look up Frank Moscas on Facebook he know pretty much everything. I go to him when I have a question. You can ask me if you like. Look me up on Facebook.

      Mike, can you explain more about color genetics?

      Mark Samaroo it’s not like explaining how to put a leg band on. There are huge books written on the subject. I have studied color genetics for about 30 years. So you see I can’t just explain it in a short post. If you want to know more go to Ron Huntley pigeons on the web and you can learn everything there is to know about color genetics and pattern genetics and modifiers. If all you want to learn is about color I can do that in a short post. But you really don’t want to know that. I wish I could attach files to this. Any way you go look up that web site and if you have questions I’d be happy to answer it for you. But you need to do some of the research on your own like I did.
      What really disappoints me is that Smitty has not responded. I love his channel but would like to see him not mislead his followers about colors and patterns. If you really know the Birmingham Roller you will know they have about every factor possible in pigeons. They are one of the only breeds that have all 3 colors and they are popular. You can find me on Facebook at Michael Jex, I live in Utah. Thanks.
