Please realize that Sagan's elbow was not pushed towards Cavendish, it was pulled by Cav's handlebars, and he almost took Sagan down, too.

Cavendish''s left BRAKE lever comes UNDER Sagan arm making it look like a elbow

Truth is that Cav was going for space that was available but Sagan closed this space, not being aware of Cav's fast approah from behind. I don't think it was Cav's fault, he just lost in lotery today. If anyone, it is Sagan's fault, he closed Cav on the barrier, but it was most definitelly unintentional, and accidental.

Indeed, it looks like P. Sagan took over M. Cavendish, then simply went ahead and closed the space. To me it looks like M. Cavendish's fault, who was trying to race past P. Sagan where there was not simply enough space; P. Sagan instinctively extended his elbow to protect his personal space and his balance; if he had not done it, both of them would have fallen. M. Cavendish was simply trying to weasel his way through too narrow a gap. Instead, M. Cavendish was recklessly trying to wedge himself into the narrow and still narrowing gap between P. Sagan and the barrier. If such a situation happened in a car race, it would be clearly M. Cavendish's fault.

At what part of the video does Sagan pass Cavendish? you are seeing something which didn't happen.
Sagan certainly didn't elbow but it's pretty clear he moves from left to right during a sprint in front of a fast approaching opponent and that is against the rules (I don't know the rules in motorsport but this is cycling).
if you cant't see a gap at 0:01-0:03 you might need to get your monitor fixed!!

      @martinrapavy9815 Před 7 lety +2

Well, not exactly "pass" (I did not write that).
The peloton was moving from left to right. And M. Cavendish was the last one and simply ended up having not enough space to pass through the narrow and constantly narrowing gap, yet he was recklessly trying to wedge himself in.
By the way, it was actually A. Démare, who changed his lane and endangered others.

What a fuzz! Is everybody forgotten that Cavendish did the same in the Tour de France of 2013 by Dutch rider Tom Veelers? When that happened Cavendish did not apologize to Veelers but for ours later on the phone! Cavendish is not 'the galant sprinter' as he now tries to show.

Nice video, totally agree. I could understand dq'ing Sagan initially, then AFTER viewing the video seeing your mistake and reinstating.
    The UCI did the opposite.
Trying to make a "statement" is no reason to make an obvious bad call.

Greipel swerving all over the road, Demare swerving all over the road, Cav initiating contact and trying to force his way thru a hole that wasn't there.
Meanwhile Sagan is riding the straightest line of ANYONE there, and gets disqualified?
Moving your elbow is NOT illegal. Swerving around like a maniac (Greipel, Demare) is.

Basically Cavendish first went for a tiny gap, lost his balance, started falling with his left brake lever STUCK under Sagan's right arm, and then HE PULLED Sagan's elbow towards him while falling down.

Let's take a closer look at the time 0:14, 0:20 0:24 - Cavendish passed through the road gully and then, when his rear wheel was slipped, he fell off the bike .. TDF jury - a very bad decision !!!

I hate promoting conspiracy theories to an extreme but I have a few questions for people who know professional cycling better. First, is Arnaud Demare a contender for the green jersey? Second, would it be possible for the comissaires (I know they're not ASO but international panel of judges) or ASO to figure out that since Demare is the recent French champion, won the stage in Vittel and the intermediate sprint (concerning the peloton only), leads in the point classification by over a 30 point margin, he is capable of winning the green jersey so they may try to favour him by eliminating the biggest favourite by using the controversial circumstances? I checked an hour ago the Wikipedia, last time a French cyclist won the point classification was in 1995 when Indurain would still win the yellow jersey.

you can see a moment were cavendish was already on the side of sagan. Sagan maybe did not notice but he should have. But if you see the wide of the road, that is the real scandal. The organizers!! They should just provide a wider road. I am not sure if Sagan noticed but he went really on the left side, so he closed the space for Cavendish. Off course he did not want that he fell, but maybe he just did not want that he could come ahead. But everything too close. More organizers fault.

It's a turn to make a green jersey do not get Sagan to change scoring bonuses and now this collision is playing them in cards it's not a cyclist developed by the state I would have it if it was the opposite, because even my head can not push and there is avoided that Cavendish went to Sagan. sory english

Sagan is saying the truth, I believe him. He's a real sportsman. It's in fact Cav's own fault. TDF Jury sux. They screwed up. Sagan wouldn't have been disqualified if it hadn't been another cyclist instead of Cav. It's such a political decision the jury gave. I protest and I'm not going to watch TDF 2017.

  • @TheChiefEng

Tragic incident but it was definitely not Peter Sagan who brought down Mark Cavendish.
Mark Cavendish went for an opening that was just not there.
    Nobody is really at fault.
Peter Sagan did not know Cavendish was there until it was too late and Mark Cavendish tried something that could have ended well if the space had been there.
It was not. Just a racing incident.
Shame on TDF if they do not allow Peter Sagan to rejoin the race.
If not, Peter Sagan's team should pull out from the race in protest.

What a load of bullshit. No way Cav was going down before that elbow hit him. Maybe he reacted to it before it hit him but that doesn't mean the elbow didn't cause the crash.
