Good tip about using the same light to put makeup on as the light you’re shooting in. Great video!

I’m doing makeup on a film for the first time in a few weeks, and while I am a makeup obsessed person, with thousands of dollars worth of cosmetics, I’m volunteering, and am not a pro MUA; so THANKS for the tips 🏆🏆 They better hire me as an actor next time, which is what I’m actually good at haha. I’m not bad at makeup either 😕
Hey, I do suck. How’d you know?

I feel her makeup was kind of mask-like/too light in color for HD.
Men’s makeup, using a pore minimizer under translucent powder does wonders at smoothing the skin without looking like makeup

The female makeup was meant to be very basic and light. Color would be a whole other video. Tell me more about the pore minimizer.

Pull My Focus I understand light as in texture but her actual shade was too light for her. In HD it’ll look like she has a floating head because it shows the difference in color more. This is why foundations marketed as “HD” tend to offer much more shades because the match is very important.
I find the recommendation for a matte foundation was also not a good choice. Skin is naturally slightly reflective. A matte foundation looks too powdery and like makeup. Demi-matte or satin finish foundations look most realistic which is why the RCMA and other HD creams are so popular in HD conditions. Cream foundation matches that more skin-like finish.
Men can pull off just using powder because due to more testosterone, men’s skin is more oily. A powder on top mixes with the natural oils and gives a semi matte finish. “Dry skin” for men is more similar to “oily skin” for women.
As for pore minimizers, a few brands offer them. There’s Smashbox, Benefit, NYX etc. Some are clear, some are tinted. If they’re tinted they’ll be okay for lighter complexions but darker complexions may need a tinted powder over to prevent the ashiness. Ben Nye has good ones for darker skin that merely add a tint as translucent powders tend to pull ashy on darker skin anyway.

Could you perhaps do something similar to this but with covering acne and blemishes for film?

There must be a way to do female makeup that is more natural-looking and similar to men's? The crew of the Netflix show Anne with an E were fantastic on this; I couldn't believe they hired makeup artists because it was set in 1895 and everyone looked so natural (this is a far cry from most Hollywood where all women's faced are blurred and polished to perfection). I would be interested to see a more minimal 'no makeup' look for females. Thank you :)

Great question. There is a way this is done and I will look into creating a video on it.

I don't really wear makeup, and I just bought some foundation. I hope I don't look like a ghost since I'm not familiar with how to contour with foundation. These tips were really good. I watched another video on makeup for filming, but they had a professional, so upon your recommendation, I might just skip the highliner... I'm not too good at it anyway.
