Splatoon 3 is the best game in the series yet somehow the most disappointing game in the series😔
IKRRR THAT'S HOW I FEEL!!
But like I don't even know why.
I totally get it. Having skippable news, the huge QoL updates to Salmon Run, training rooms while we wait for matches, Callie and Marie coming back (a big personal wish of mine) are such great leaps forward. However, the overly simple map design, the untapped potential, and Side Order not being as fleshed out as I hoped really hold the game back for me.
It's definitely my favorite Splatoon game, but it's also sad seeing the devs drop the ball in other vital areas.

@@Nintenguin It's so weird. You look at the first trailers of the game and the maps look ten times better (specifically Eeltail Alley and Scorch Gorge). They actually had it right and then actively made them worse once the game launched.
I don't know. I'm not a game developer. I don't pretend to know what's in their heads.

Honestly I wish that the haircut shown here 3:18 on the yellow inkling was the main inkling hairstyle that we got to represent Splatoon 3 instead of that one braid one tentacle hairstyle we actually got.

Most of these designs are SO sick!! It definitely feels more like a different style than the cartoony ones we have in game, but I really hope some of these are used in Splatoon 4. They are so badass.
there surely are scans of the artbooks, but it just hits different to have the actual book with the quality paper and stuff. It's a bit expensive, but defenitely worth it
I'm probably going to wait until it gets an official translation to buy it
yes, but for the old ones. I "only" got the one of splatoon 1, but even nowadays I really enjoy it
There’s so much that could’ve given this game the treatment it deserved 😭
This video kind of misses some important points when it comes to the concept artwork phase in development. There's a lot more to be considered in stuff like character designs than simply how cool or unique or whatnot they are. These ideas are used as "getting stuff down on paper to spark further imagination" and shouldn't be viewed as "scrapped prototypes".
Some easy examples are hairstyles that wouldn't work well with our hat system, or weapon concepts that didn't fit with the game balance, or the unfinished versions of Deep Cut missing many of the key visual elements of their current design. Like...Big Man...
The developers have gone on record saying that any lack of content is due to work restrictions and avoiding crunch time. It's not because of a lack of ideas or any difficulty getting those ideas approved.

I went to school for animation and rigging. I LOVE to see complicated/cool character concept art, but under threat of DEATH, I would not want to animate any of it in game! I understand whole heartedly why things were cut out. The simplicity of Frye and Shiver is just detailed enought to not have more animators jumping off roofs....😭
If we don’t get new hairstyles next month then I’ll just be very disappointed. It’s going to storm during the splatfest….EVEN BETTER guess I’m gonna miss it go Frye.

3:05, it seems like we might've been able to get the pupils that the idols have, or custom eyes... this guy has shiver/marina's pupils and the text next to him reads "tako me (kasutamu)" which literally means "octopus eyes (custom)". oh the outifit is also cool too
5:35 i am SO mad we did not get those clothes and hair in game. it looks so pretty!!! i would wear those all the time :(

@@Fryethusiast Ye like that Frye, but they are connected and you can throw one at time as a long range mode. But also they would have a short distance swing for up close. (of course this would be too powerful but I'm too lazy to nerf it.)

This right here. This right here is why Splat3 frustrates me. This game has massive potential to be even bigger and better than it already is, but the devs are playing it far too safe. The majority of map designs are not nearly as complex as in past games. The hero mode is the same old thing (though I still love it because Callie came back, which was a big personal wish of mine, and I still have fun playing it). Side Order ended up not as fleshed out as it could have been (Where is Agent 4? Parallel Canon is a data copy, so that doesn't count; I miss Agent 4 for goodness sake).
At the end of the day, we complain about Splatoon because we love it. We gripe about it because we care deeply about it and we want to see its full potential. We know it can be better, and we want it to be better.
