Starting from a small ornithological reserve opened in 1980, Beauval is today the French zoo which welcomes the greatest number of animals. There are 35,000 individuals for 800 species. It is also the busiest. There were 1.6 million visitors in 2019. Permanent investments are made there, such as the gigantic dome dedicated to equatorial fauna and flora. In France, Beauval is also the only zoo to host koalas, pandas and also Tasmanian devils. An incredible success story in the heart of Loir-et-Cher. In this park, there are not only endangered species. Some are also there to put on a show, like the California sea lions. So how did the establishment manage to renew itself and attract more and more visitors despite the health crisis? How do teams of caretakers and veterinarians ensure the well-being and reproduction of species that are sometimes threatened with extinction in ultramodern facilities?
