This ad is pretty weird. In reality, these old north calcutta palatial homes are crumbling and if a boy from such a family has gone abroad and made good in life and fallen for a mem, the family back home usually flaunts it as a status symbol. Even the dadus. Today, a 70 year old man can't be a chhabi biswas type jomidar.
Usually, the owners of these huge homes, including the sons, are waiting for promoters.
Also the jewellery is pretty sad here. I won't be able to afford any of these, but grapes are not sour. Who wears this kind of stuff and for what? Jewellery should add sparkle to a girl's personality, not crush it with its weight.

So silly!! These are the traditional heavy weight jewellery that are Bengal's own. Think of South Indian gold ornaments then, which are even heavier and expensive. Yes, you can always opt for light-weight stuff as per your choice and capabilities but that really doesn't mean that one can't deck herself up in heavy-weight ornaments, which are ofcourse quintessential display of ability craftsmanship and the dignity and pride of Bengal.
