Good on you. As someone who came here and ended up staying for 15 years before moving back I think you have chosen to move back at the right time. Despite my best efforts to remain connected with friends & family back home, it hasn’t been enough to keep me connected when I moved back and I’m now coming back to Australia.

Moving away from family is such a huge factor that I think people really underestimate. I spent seven years away from home and wasn’t able to go back during foundation training both because of Covid and leave. The loneliness was crazy sometimes. Yes, you have other people there but there’s nothing quite like a hug from a family member. I’ve been home over a year now (and away from the NHS) and sometimes it still doesn’t feel real to not have that much stress on me. You do what’s best for you and I’m glad you’ve done just that! Hope training is treating you and your partner well!

Such an honest and true feedback about the Australian Specialty Training match. Real story: a few years back I was working as an SHO on the Cardiovascular ward, I see my Med School classmate on the ward, telling me he is already Cardiovascular Reg in the Specialty training program. Little did I know the head of the department is his father. In reality it is almost unheard of to get into the program as a JHO. Father can make magic work. Not what you know but who you know.

I did the opposite Aus -> UK, been almost four years! I do miss my family and old friends but I feel like theres still so much of Europe to see and every big city in Australia feels the same to me now, maybe in a few years I'll start feeling the pull of home but taking it week by week! I'm jealous you had a clear deciding factor, indifference in the worst for such big choices

As a medical student, always love to hear perspective because I will be part of a workforce soon, and also with the lipstick comment, try lining your lips first with a lip pencil colour close to your skin tone and then use a lipstick shade you like so it isn’t so harsh. I used to love lipstick, then i went to lip gloss and i cant say goodbye lol

Thank you for this video! I found it very insightful as a med student in the UK considering the move to AUS. Hypothetically, if all your close family moved to AUS, do you think you would have stayed? Or do the other unfortunate aspects of nepotism, training pathway, etc outweigh that?

You must've missed her video where a a British Indian colleague in Australia OFFERED her a placement on a training program pending her application.
Nepotism is everywhere, seen the House of Lords recently?

Speaking as an Aussie, I think the sheer scale of our country and how difficult it is to travel around makes the isolation worse. It's simply not possible for me to fly over and spend a weekend with my parents in a different state, for example, because our airlines are beyond shit and it's $$$. We live less than 800km apart!! Over a third of all flights are canceled or moved at the moment, so your chances of even getting there aren't great.

I find it strange how people can have so many opinions and suggestions on how others should live their life. I think people should do what they want and live their life like they want! :) So you do you! :)

Hi Doctor, I am asking this for my fiancé. Can you please help us with the pathway for MS graduates to Australia. He is currently doing his MS in Orthopedics, in India. We are looking for the fellowship pathway. We spoke to several people, but they are not sure how to take on the fellowship pathway. Can you please help ?

Hello 👋 I work in the United States of America as an anesthesiologist’s assistant, where we do 99% of the work of an anesthesiologist’s assistant, and our degree is a bachelor’s degree. We bring the patient and stay at the anesthesia cart, and after treatment we monitor the intensive care equipment (ICU).
Can I work in Australia 🇦🇺? Do you have information about working in this field? I hope you have a great day.

that honestly sounds quite niche. I am a little familiar with the Aus system having gone to school there. AFAIK, anaesthetic assistants hold at least a Master's degree in Australia. So it's difficult to know if your education + work experience would be considered equivalent. Best to reach out to the regulatory body there and ask.

Tell that to your nan when she's lying on a trolley in A&E for 8 hours, getting pressure sores, because there simply isn't enough staff to look after her.
Are you thick or you just knocked your head about on the lash?

@@drsurinatanejathe sexism on this video has blown my mind. I used to think that it's only black girls that get this level of pettiness. Jesus H Christ!!!! So few comments not easily 45% are snarky.
      What the hell?!?!?
Thank you so much for all the videos you've done on this topic and I'm wiser now (especially on the nepotism thing. That would put me right off, I hate schmoozing to get opportunities, it gives me the hives). Awesome to have you back, and I'm in the West Country too.
P.S. your make up is perfect, so natural and soft 😊.
