75 MPH Honda Monkey!

- Quick test of the Pyramid Plastics fairing combined with the Yoshimura RS3 exhaust.
The Monkey is not the most aerodynamic bike and the natural seating position makes most humans an air brake at speed!
Unexpected results with a great gain in speed in 3rd and 4th gear.
For anyone interested I also did a GPS Vs Speedo check, its available for view on my channel.

That's absolutely amazing! 75mph (120KPH!!) and the only mods a Yoshi and a fairing! I'm floored. I've seen other vids where they've had intakes, pistons, all sorts of mods and struggled to get above 65. Your bike must be one of the special ones. I'm picking my '22 5-speed up in a week and a Yoshi is the first mod I plan. After seeing this vid I may just get a fairing too (in banana yellow for me!) :-) Thanks heaps for a great (and inspiring) video. Cheers from Sydney Australia.
Thanks Brian, the Monkey is an amazing little machine and it will give you endless miles of fun. Enjoy your bike when it arrives next week!!
Have you done the mod? What kind of top speed are you getting? I just got 22 monkey and Yoshi is what I am considering also. Let me know please. Thanks.
@@r56mini Hi! Took delivery a few months back now. I had my Pyramid spoiler/fairing arrive the other day (no time to fiut yet) and I'm still waiting on my Yoshi system from America. It is supposed to arrive in about 2 weeks with Ohlin rear shocks in the same delivery. Please comment here in about 3 weeks so I will see it to remember and I'll let you know how it performs. Cheers.
@@brianhoward9217 So far on my 2022 Monkey, I have installed Chimera intake + Yoshimura RS3 + DHM CAM + DHM ecu flash. I got the ecu back today and went for a short ride and it went up to 64 mph where I used to get 59 mph. I will have to test more. They say it takes 15 -20 miles for the ecu to adjust.
@@r56mini Great to hear re your improvements! I look forward very much to sharing how the bike responds over time - love to get your updates here! Thanks!
These are great little bikes love the mods, awesome.
Thanks Mark
Perfectly matched fairing. Good job.
Thanks! Its looking good and really pleased with the finish and quality
Brilliant Monkey. Looking great.and sounds really good.
Thanks Peter 👍
Love my fairing as well. That and the Yoshi are my 2 favorite accessories.
They are the two biggest mods and they add so much more to the legendary monkey!
@@SVTaurito For sure. You should check out the Kitaco handlebar cross bar brace. Tames the buzzing in your hands a bit, reinforces the bars, looks cool, easy to install and sort of cheap.
@Finding Neutral Just taken delivery of my Kitaco handlebar brace!
@@SVTaurito SWEET! I'm confident you will like it. Let me know....
@@findingneutral Will do buddy, I did cheat and get a cheaper brace on Amazon first, it was awful, looked cheap and didn't fit well! Kitaco is all installed, fits like a glove and looks great, guess you get what you pay for! Will take it out for a test tomorrow, just fitted my Beeline nav unit to it, in a much better position to view easily now.
Great footage 😎👍🏻 my monkey arrives next week, can’t wait now
That bike will give you so much enjoyment!
@@SVTaurito my 2022 blue monkey was delivered yesterday and I can safely you are right it’s got so much character and such a good looking bike feel like a teenager again 🤣
@@devereux20 Great news on the delivery. I went to a Honda dealer last week and new bikes are hard to find with all the freight issues. You will get people coming over to look at it when parked up. Everyone loves the Monkey!
Awesome bike. The headlight sets it off man.
Thanks Patrick, love this little machine!
Yes mate lovely buddy, I have the yellow monkey and also purchased the windshield as it sets the bike off nice 👌
Had a look on your channel Hoppo. Bike looks good buddy
@@SVTaurito Up for an adventure mate? END of April?
@@HOPPOVERSION1 Sorry buddy, im booked up until the end of summer already!
Hi SV - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Very impressed with the fairing and an interested in getting it for my yellow machine. I'm 6ft 4inches and 92kg and not not interested in top speed but want it for easier cruising in the low 50s. I have the same carrier and had a small 25 litre box but the carrier cracked despite little weight and had to be rewelded so I removed box. I think vibration of the box was the culprit. The mirror extensions are vital to avoid a permanent view of your elbows. I understand that changing sprocket sizes disables the ABS, which is grand for the Americans who can buy a non ABS version. I like being able to comfortably pull top gear at 30mph. Honda has reintroduced the bike in 2021 with an upgraded engine and 5 gears. If I had a choice I would prefer the standard 4 speed box with an ultra low first gear for off road use. Keep on Monkeying about!
Hi Big Rodders, totally agree on the gearing, think the 4 speed version is much more suited to the bike. The fairing is only small but for tall chaps like us it really does make a difference by funneling the wind away from your chest. Ill try and get a test ride on the 5 speed version when the local Honda garage gets one in and will post a review. Enjoy the Monkey! Don't think ill be going out on it today, wind is howling so probably wouldn't get above 50!
gidday my first 2020 changed front sprocket to 14t and put on a different set of tyres abs light came on once after that didn't come on at all
We’re finally getting the new monkey bikes here in Canada soon, red only though. Might buy two and keep one in the crate😎. Hello from British Columbia
Good plan! Can't wait to try one out when they arrive in the UK!
@@SVTaurito just put a deposit on one at VI Honda 20 minutes ago, should arrive by mid September 😎

That Fairing Is 'SICK'!! Love IT!!!...considering a Monkey!
Thanks for your comment. Do it, they are a great bike!
I wasn’t sold on the monkey, I was leaning toward a Trail 125 or even a Ruckus but first look at this one with the fairing and I’m sold on it!
@@avega2792 me TOO!! FAIRING is Excellent! ..with after-market EXHAUST!! 'SICK'!!!!
@@avega2792 The Monkey is great, mind you the Honda Trail looks awesome. Hard choices to make!
Great looking fairny.im running a 14 and 37 sprockets.nothing else.so much more zip.4th gear pulls now.im probably in 4th gear 20 seconds before you.cheapest way to wake up the bike.plus I'm able to climb small desert hills easily.have the same red.have fun and enjoy.p.s. stay off freeway. I want to see more videos.😁
Good to hear from you again Michael. Jealous that you have some desert hills to climb, proper monkeybike territory!. Bet that gearing will give you some rapid acceleration. I looked at changing the front sprocket but as its mainly for road use didn't bother. Enjoy your monkey adventure, its a brilliant little machine. More vids to come!
What's your top speed?
@@ripjohnson2121 hi ripper.great name.since I've changed both sprockets my speedo is reading faster than I'm dealing going.every thing comes into play when you have less then 10hp.im around 190lbs.i have mobber knobby tires on it now for lake havasu desert.i do know my hearing gets the bike off the line quicker then stock.also my 4th gear has pull now.the fastest my spedo has read was 73 down by Sara park going down hill.straight away some where around 60.remember though if you weigh around 150lbs the bike would do a better job.if you don't have one yet they have a 5 speed now for 2022.i would like to try that one out.take mike.😁
I read that as "75 HP Honda Monkey!" and was quite impressed
Thanks Deli, 75 HP I wish!! Glad you watched it though!
13 hp....lol
I'm a order one now
Nice fairing. Looks and sounds great. What kind of mirror extensions are those ?
Hi David, thanks for watching and your comments. Those mirror extensions were ordered on Amazon. They make a big difference and improve rear visibility drastically. Hope this helps. Link to them on Amazon www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07NWD94PS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_T5E42801MQRGSFJZ49NN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Hi, thanks for the vid.
I'm looking at that front fender and i'm thinking you must have even bether aerodynamics with it lowered, don't you think? Worth a shot?
Could be but would depend on your height though. Give it a shot and if not you can always adjust it to suit?
Nice mods nice colour lovely little bike the monkey, does the Yoshi give you more HP, do you go to Herne Bay where they have a big turnout of monkeys and Groms , very good video very informative.
Hey Ruffdriver, thank you for watching and the nice comments. Love the monkey, will be out this weekend if i can find a petrol station with fuel!. I had the Yoshi put on from collection from the dealership so can compare the HP gain. Mind you from all the comments i have had i would definitely say it adds some HP. Have no trouble keeping above 60mph. Did a video of it on the channel to compare uphill vs downhill on a long stretch of motorway. Not been to Herne Bay, didn't know there was a monkey/grom meet. Might check it out!
What all have you done to the performance of this bike to acquire such speed? Mine averages 54, also what’s the Oxford thing in the handles? And did you have a different gear box or just the factory 4 speed?
Thank you for your comment. The Oxford control is for the heated grips. Had then installed at the local Honda garage. Great addition for the cold weather. The gearing is all standard. What I have done that helps is fitted the full yoshi RS3 system, claims to increase BHP and Torque, put on the fairing which deflects the wind and i always make sure my tire pressure is correct before riding. Not sure if it will.make much difference but I only use high octane fuel (v-power or equivalent). I was considering changing sprockets but decided to stick with stock as any gain made might loose some elsewhere.
@@SVTaurito awesome. Thank you this is so helpful! Stay safe Ape Gang! Ride like tomorrow never comes!
75 mph (120 km/h) top speed ! 😀😂🤣
¿Did you measure the top speed gain with the fairing ? ¿At what speed do you feel the fairing effects?
Didn't measure it but its added around 3 mph to my top speed. Its not the top speed that is the biggest gain. The fairing makes a big difference to cruising speed above 50 mph. Holds its speed much better than without it. Hope this helps
@@SVTaurito Thanks! It helps
@@SVTaurito I agree 100% on this observation. I averaged 3mph more speed and less wind drag for sure with this fairing.
Thanks Finding Neutral, its a great addition for good value. Glad your seeing the same improvements!
Congratulations on the fairing purchase, I enjoyed the video very much. I own a 2019 & 2020 so you will excuse me if I say I am extremely skeptical that your 75 miles per hour is accurate. I would like to see you confirm it with a GPS reading on your phone. The only bikes you see on the net that even come close to that speed have a Yoshi, cold intake, racing cam, and ECU flash. It's still a great bike at any speed.
Thanks for the comment Apio, good point regarding the GPS speed. In a few weeks i have the Yoshi insert to put in to bring the noise level down. Ill do another video run in exactly the same place and put the phone on for GPS speed. I haven't changed any gearing so hoping it wont be far off. There does seem to be some big disparity in speeds with the Monkey on CZcams so thanks for the idea. Challenge Accepted!
Apio, GPS Vs Speedo comparison Vlog completed and uploaded, enjoy
Where did you get the windscreen? Does it reduce wind buffeting on your head and shoulders? Did the muffler get you any extra performance?
Very nice machine.
Thanks Terry, Got the fairing from Pyramid plastics and yes it helps deflect the wind off the chest. Im pretty tall so still get it on the head/shoulders but it does make a difference. The yoshi pipe was installed when i picked it up so cant benchmark the difference on the standard pipe. The Yoshi website states it adds a few BHP and torque and based on the speed im getting Vs some others it looks to be true.
@@SVTaurito I am trying to decide MT 03, CB300R, Z400 or the Monkey. I am 75 yrs old and I would like to start riding again after 40 yr hiatus.
@@terryoler1935 go for it Terry. The Monkey is a great bike but if you need to go on the motorway or roads that have a speed of 60 or more get something with a bit more power. If your only going to be cruising slow roads at the weekend then the Monkey is the one!
@@SVTaurito I think the monkey is a super great idea. It’s perfect for an old fart like me. I am 5’ 9” with 29” inseam (maybe 30” to ground) at 190 pounds.
Did you remap the fueling when fitting the Yoshi exhaust?
Hi Richard, No I didn't remap the fueling or make any changes to the ECU. Apparently you can fit the Yoshi without the need. If you change to the Yoshi and upgrade the air intake its needed though! Been running fine since the Yoshi was installed.
@@SVTaurito GTK 0 thanks!
He's?doing 75 with just a fairing what did he do drop it from a plain
Hey nice bike , where did you get the rack from please
Thanks for watching. It's a H2C honda monkey rear rack from Ebay. Do a search and you will see them listed. Fits well and was only a 5 minute job to install.
Have you moved your bars forward any?
Hi David, not moved the bars forward. Kept them in the same position from collection at the dealership.
I’ve got a monkey but why would you add fairing and the yoshi?
Thanks for the comment. It was personal preference for me. The Yoshi sounds great and claims to improve power and torque slightly. It was a bit loud so I have installed the muffler/spark arrest insert to tone it down a bit. The fairing whilst only small stops the wind buffeting on your chest, I sometimes have to do a few junctions on the motorway and it makes it a bit more manageable for me. Hope this helps
I like it. Looks pretty slick, and reduces drag.
@@avega2792 Thanks for the comment, love that fairing mod!
Cant decide whether to get a Monkey or a Benelli TNT ?
The Monkey is a great bit of kit and very well made/reliable. Suppose its down to the type of bike that works best for you and your budget. Either way they are both great bikes. Let me know which one you end up with!?
Chinese crap or Honda ask yourself that.....
Where did you get your monkey from? Apparently its discontinued now
Can't believe its been discontinued already, what a shame. I would have thought they would have been a great seller for Honda. I got mine from Maidstone Honda.
@@SVTaurito According to Honda Sheffield the monkey cannot comply with Euro 5 that's why they don't sell them anymore. I will keep looking for unsold new ones hopefully I'd be able to find one.
@@jeremycubs8331 Thanks for sharing Jeremy. Just checked online and can see lots of people trying to get one. Cant believe they have been discontinued and looks like they wont be making a euro 5 model either from the comments on some forums. Will be keeping mine!
Where does the air hit you with the fairing added?
Takes the wind off the chest and as i am pretty tall passes it onto the helmet. Makes an improvement overall especially at higher speeds.
@@SVTaurito Thanks
Where did you get the fairing?
Got the fairing from Pyramid Plastics. Check out their website.
have you got heated hand grips on it
Yep, had the Oxford grips fitted. Works well
You have a discount code by chance?
Sorry got no discount codes, channel probably not big enough to qualify yet!
Are these small bikes comfortable to ride?
Very comfy to ride. It may be small but the riding position and massive padded seat make for a very relaxing and comfortable journey. If you get the chance to try one at a Honda garage have a go and see for yourself!
I think I want a monkey.
Do it Hank!, you will not regret it.
Any other mods to get that speed?
Thanks for your comment. The bike has stock gearing and engine. The Mods are a full yoshimura exhaust system and a headlight fairing. I only use high octane fuel and always check tyre pressures before taking it out. Hope this helos
Where did you buy the faring?
I got mine from Pyramid Plastics. They do them in various monkey colours. I got the red fairing and paint colour is spot on. Web link pyramid-plastics.co.uk/collections/honda-monkey-125

Thanks Michael, might just be the next mod!
No way! Not 75MPH with stock intake and no gear changes. If there is different gears, then the speed is off anyway! Sorry!
Thanks for the comment Doug. The bike has had no gear changes. I did a GPS run just to make sure, vlog is on my channel. Seems to be a 10% variable with the speedo. Looking at around 67/68 MPH true speed.
@@SVTaurito I Agree with Doug. I have stock gears and changed the intake, ECU and exhaust and can hit 70 MPH downhill. 65 is about the best I can do on the flat surface. And I have the same wind screen as you have. The wind screen does help slightly, and looks great also.
@@donwahle8199 Thanks Don. I don't seem to have any issues with getting into the mid 60's even on a slight incline. Did a motorway check on a slight uphill and a the return on the downhill over a decent distance to give an accurate reflection. check it out czcams.com/video/pQtmTlrrhmc/video.html
In reality though the only time i use the motorway was for the channel , stick to A roads mainly so never really need to go above 60!
Try it with a GPS, speedo is of by at least 10% at my Monkey, bought a Takegawa speedo, much better!
Thanks Jan, I did a gps comparison and posted it last week. Was well out but I had poor reception on local satellites. Love the Takegawa speedo. Seen a few clips on installation. Might have to be my next mod!
Why do tall guys like little bikes?👍
Hey Magpie Ranger, i had to have the Monkey when it was first released. The bike is so comfy and easy to ride, don't really need to think about it. Had a BMW GS1200 adventure prior to this, great bike but needed some thought to carefully thread it through the London traffic! For any size rider who deals with congestion and doesn't need to go fast this thing is a city weapon.
check my channel out mate and you'll see its on there.
..I feel a monkey bike rally coming up in the future???
Monkey rally would be great once this pandemic is over. Checked out your channel, good stuff, keep it up 👍
I think you need to get your defective speedometer replaced with one that works. 😏
Why,would you want to even if you can😬
Hi Ron, it was important for me to know as I live close to the motorway. Been diverted off onto it since due to road closure. I only use the bike for weekend fun but good to know if I need to go on the motorway for a junction its going to cope!
75 mph if you’re being pulled by a Ferrari maybe.

@@SVTaurito is this really mph and not km/h?
@@nothanks1627 Yep, I did do a gps check also, uploaded the vlog of it. Its about 10% out so only doing 67mph real speed though. Mind you everyone seems to be doing the same speedo speed on the motorway so not to disappointed!

75 mph my arse
Absolutely not possible to hit 68mph in 3rd gear with the stock rev limiter of 9250rpms in place with stock gearing. Get a speedo healer and eat some crow. You're about 10mph (or more) off .
It was not out by 10mph. The speedo reports about 8-10% below here in the UK. I did a speedo v gps review on my channel to demonstrate. Checked it in the car and reports the same also. For some reason all speedo readings here seem to be the same. The good news is when my speedo says 70 I'm doing the same speed as the cars so it's really not an issue!
@@SVTaurito I saw your follow up video, it showed your bike speedo was a minimum of 7-8mph off and you're trying to show an inflated top end speed by going down a long hill. Not scientific and NOT FACTUAL. Stop BSing people in CZcams. The bikes are limited by gearing and rpms to KNOWN achievable top speeds.
