It's _likely_ *ARTIFICIAL* shortage. I worked for Apple for multiple years and saw that it was common practise for them to act as if they've got very little stock meanwhile they've got plenty at the back. During the iPhone 15 supposed shortage I walked in and asked for an iPhone 15 and the person said they would have to check if it's available And that I should have reserved the phone online to make sure I could get the phone. I then read their stock levels back of house (store stock) and they had HEAPS of iPhones 🤔🫤. In my opinion, it's a pretty lame way to try to get hype because it inconveniences their own customers. It's ONE of the reasons why I am not such a fan anymore 😢.
@@user-qt5bd2pf6b Honestly, from my experience with using Gemini as a "replacement" for Google Assistant, it SUCKED. It felt like half the time it was less reliable than the normal assistant, which just made it feel like the functionality became even worse than it already has over the last few years.
I can see an endgame where these virtual assistants get truly superpowered, I imagine an assistant with the natural spoken conversation of ChatGPT 4o, the knowledge of WolframAlpha and the functionality that something like Google Assistant _should already have anyways_ (I'm a bit salty about this, and maybe Siri hasn't been lobotomized like that, I wouldn't know).
I really don't know if we'll ever actually get there, though, in part because 2 out of the 3 of the things I mentioned there are things that have been around for ages by now
People would rather have MacOS on the iPad than AI on any of their products.
That would be terrible. Ipads are meant to be touchscreen, macos meanwhile is not built for touchscreen and will have to be redesigned to make it work for the ipad. I think Ipad should stay with ios.

@@Mr_Sentoo that is a laptop, which you would usually use on a desk. I hate the idea of a pc software on a tablet because that would mean a slightly lackluster experience when I'm using it on sofa or on bed.

Doesnt need AI. Needs a software that integrates every app. Mark.a date, get option for calendar. Get a call, get schedule to set a call back. A good IFTTT flow beats unfinished AI
While yes but your average person can’t even figure out shortcuts let alone IFTTT with it’s limited interoperability with other services

AI is getting kinda nauseating, i have it on Galaxy, most part of the features are useless for me, apple is not missing out
idk, for me its kept very much out of the way. You can disable whatever AI you don't like in whatever app. With customization off, it's still pretty useful without being creepy.
apple could turn Siri into a Jarvis from iron man, would be really great to talk and give complex instructions and beeing apple to navigate through ur device with only voice, and also compatibility with other app's allowing Siri to make modifications and changes on these app's not only iOS core

True, I used both google AI and Samsung AI. Other than using it for deleting the background of an image and getting a summarized version of a document, I don't see any good use of it.
Biggest feature I want is like Siri to immediately organize all photos in my library into folders based on people so that I can have them organized on my windows computer.
I'm still calling bullshit on the idea that the iPhone 15 doesn't get Apple intelligence, most of its features could easily be run on the A16 chip and even the ones that couldn't could be run on the cloud. This is just paywalling which is ridiculous considering even the regular iPhone 15 can cost up to $1100.
They are already stopped to support the 2GB iPhone 8 with the newest iOS, and their on device AI module use 4,2GB memory.. so if the A16 with 6GB memory can run the AI, that means the 2GB iPhpne 8 should also get the newest iOS.. but their min memory requirements increased to 4GB, and adding 4GB for AI is 8GB.. btw when the A16 designed it was about 3 years ago (when the first iPhone released with A15, the designers and engineers are already worked on the A16, because the A15 was manufactured and waited in the storage, they had no work on that..), so if you are buying a 3 years old technology, they can't always solve that to get everything on that.. that time the iPhones with just 2GB RAM was still supported, 6GB is 3x more, so looked fine, but this sudden AI rush just arrived after that.. and that just doubled the memory requirements (you still can run the newest iOS on all 4GB RAM models, but you need additional 4GB RAM for the AI.. so at least 8GB.. btw now when the iPhone releaseing with A17 the engineers are also working on the A18 for a while.. because A17 is already finished and under manufacturing.. so designs/purchases are far away in time.. especially if you only buy the cheapest model with last year chip, that is designed 2 years ago that time..)
This is what Google did on Pixel 7 pros …. They did not get all AI stuff Pixel 8s got. I purchased my 7 pro like 6 months away from the 8 and I felt so cheated. I’m still a bit sour about the whole thing

I don’t know about the regular 16 but the pro will have quite a couple new features they could focus on:
- larger screen
- thinner bezels
- larger battery plus more efficient chip
- new capture button with half press and zoom rocker
- 48megapixel ultra wide
A millimeters larger display and half mm smaller borders, 10% larger battery and a button are not selling points
Siri describing a texted picture isn't an 18 Beta exclusive thing. My iPhone does that on carplay on 17.5.6 or whatever version is non-beta right now.

I feel like Apple has been pretty clear about the general timeline for features: This fall, some of the Apple Intelligence features will be available, but the new Siri won't be available until next Spring. My guess is that 18.0 (the main beta) is going to be for all phones underneath the 15 Pro, so any phones that cannot use Apple Intelligence. Those phones will then never get the 18.1 upgrade, but they will continue to get updates, probably 18.0.x builds. The 15 Pro and above will start on 18.1.x, and the two will move in parallel. I would bet the iPhone 16 launches with iOS 18.1. I had heard new Siri will be in 18.4.
This feels like a we need put out apple content video, cause like you said, this all seems like common info.

I just want a phone that performs well and does normal phone things. This relentless chasing of new, incredible features that no one needs is getting tiring. And it's not just the tech/ phone industry. It's like this in just about every industry.
There wasn't much difference between the 14 and 15 if we're being straight up. Apple Intelligence can definitely run on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. They just choose to handicap it. Because $$$$$$

As an old fart , but a very practical focused tech boy , I really appreciate features that actually make a difference in my daily life, it was alluded to the iPhone 12 was a model to skip ? but I beg to differ , the 12 was the first model to have MagSafe , a feature I use in one way or another every single day !
As far as skip models go , even though I own one , the 14 series could have been a skip model , as the 13 was already very good, I still like my 14 pro max though, the 15 imo was a bigger model that deserved to be skipped, the titanium adds so little to the device in daily use it’s not funny , and the 14 series stainless was , is , has proven to be very robust and imo less slippery in the hand.
On the AI , I want to see improvement in the on phone user interface that makes meaningful difference for the average user , not gimmicky crap.
Samsungs draw a stick figure sketch and have AI complete the picture while a bit of fun for the first 15 minutes and probably will never be used again is an example of gimmicky useless crap imo 😂.
One of things I’d like to see as far as AI goes ( and maybe I’m dreaming) , I’d like to see a time when I can talk to the phone like another person that if I make a statement for example to Siri saying I’m thinking of going to to the city to look at widget x in my car , and Siri responds questioning if that’s a good idea because some sort of reason.
I dunno , just more useful human like thinking or reasoning.
Funnily enough I was thinking out aloud while writing that last bit of the post and Siri replied why don’t you try this this and this 😊.

I changed my region to activate it. There’s so little functionality in current apple intelligence I changed region back as the negatives of the wrong region didn’t outweigh the benefits of apple intelligence. New Siri is pretty though.

The main issue with other models not getting Apple Intelligence even tough the chips have the capability, like iPhone 15 & Plus, is due to the requirement of having 8GB RAM, and these 2 models don’t have that.
And that is the reason why iPhone 16 starting from base models are now gonna get 8GB RAM Base.

The iPhone 17 seems to be the iPhone to be waiting for. Considering Apple has pretty much rushed out Apple Intelligence as a delayed response to Google, OpenAI and Microsoft's popular A.I. offerings, I'd wager iPhone 16 Pro phones are just barely adequate enough to handle some of what Apple Intelligence is being advertised to bring. By the time iPhone 17 Pro is ready to deploy, we may have the iPhone that's truly designed from the ground up for A.I.

I personally don’t need anything new from my 15 pro max. I say Apple should stop doing an annual upgrade. They should do it every 2 year cycle and bring out an actual new phone instead of buying the same phone with new features. Also it will give everyone time to enjoy their phones. I mean I don’t even get a phone charger because of the environment and E waste reducing efforts so why not continue that effort and reduce the number of phones being made for only minor improvements?
Everything you're saying is correct but unfortunately you're thinking about things from the perspective of a consumer and not from the perspective of a business that realizes it could make more money if it just makes a new phone and then talks about upcoming features once a year.

I think this is Apple rushing into AI because they don’t want to be behind but none of these are like iPhone 4 upgrade to get Siri. Why would I leave my iPhone 13 mini that I like for this.

I don’t know if it’s because they don’t want bad press and are intentionally holding back but if it’s not tested or out yet with the launch so close, I am very concerned. These AI features are the very ones they NEED to test before it comes out

AI on iPhone can not be a revolutionary in just 1 year. It would probably take 2 years. 1 first generation is just a tease, and then the second generation is something functional or even a third generation. Like iPhone 3G. That was a 3rd generation and made a difference.

I think it will shift units - people will want to future-proof themselves and so get the 16 rather than save a few hundred for a previous model that might not get any/all the features.

How is that a real reason to upgrade? I'm on a 12 Max and to me the iPhone just keeps getting worse. The pill is a step back. I'll likely just get my battery replaced than buy a new iPhone unless that stupid pill goes away.

I was thinking the same... iPhone 16 is scheduled to be released in sept with AI fully integrated, but ios 18 is far from being ready. How is Apple going to manage to rush this? Are they going to post pone iphone 16?
If the 16 pro has the 5x optical zoom and better battery life it’s an instant buy for me. I have always preferred the 15 pro size and weight but opted for the Max because of zoom + battery. Absolutely hate holding it
You have forgotten one crucial thing. The European Union. It has enough influence in the meantime that even Americans are forced to look beyond their own national borders. I suspect that 18.0 without Apple Intelligence will be introduced in the EU with the new iPhone and 18.1 may become relevant for non EU countries.
Basically the 16 isn’t really the AI phone. The 17 is. Siri isn’t even coming out in 18.1.

It isn’t confusing for the whole thing being delayed. It’s probably the largest biggest part of IOS18. Apple has often delayed feature rollout. Well get the bulk of it by the time the next iPhone comes out.

Well, Apple does say “coming in beta this fall” on their Apple Intelligence page, so what’s the big deal here? To me it was always clear that the iPhone 16 would not have all these new AI features at launch.

I haven’t seen anything so evolutionally new from the biggest brands for the past 5 years. Great new features and what seem to be “updates” but that’s about it.
Hot take but apple has recently been handing down current pro chips to next years base models. (15 normal has 14pro chip) I think the 13pro and 14 normal did something similar. I think that Apple won't give 16 normal the 15 pro chip to prohibit AI features to recent "pro" models only.
I can spot numerous boomers in the comments section, who are AI skeptics. It would be intriguing to document these early days of AI for future reference, to showcase some of the pessimism and negative sentiments that were prevalent during that time. For instance, one common refrain was, “Get off my lawn- I mean, my phone, you stupid AI!”

Pixel X will be something to look out for
As I've said before, iOS 18 will have the bare minimum AI stuff (Siri on the level of 2020 Google Assistant, writing tools that have been in Grammarly for years, notification prioritization which is literally an hours worth of work patching over the fundamentally flawed system that is the iOS notification screen, and _maybe_ image generation on-par with 2022 Dall-E) and everything else will be 'coming soon'. Some will come at some point soon-ish, some will come a year or two down the line and some will be abandoned without announcement.

I know it’s all capitalism and Apple make an absolute fortune but is it possible that us as consumers have become too arrogant in regard to expectation from tech companies?
