- SO... for those of you who only have discovered InFiné recently, RONE aka Erwan Castex has released his first LP "Spanish Breakfast" in 2009 almost one year after"Bora", his debut EP. His album was illustrated by a video of Vladimir Mavounia-Kouka cristallizing on screen the dreamy and tormented atmospheres of his productions.
SO...in 2011, Rone will return in full force after a two-year break and the release of his much-awaited second full-length effort.
SO ... " So So So" is the name of his new EP on InFiné.

Don't get me wrong, this song and Rone is amazing, he is doing an amazing job creating more palatable IDM for people who might be new to the genre and he gets MAD respect from me for his part in this movement. I'm happy to see a Melodic IDM(Angelic Braindance) song like this make it to the mainstream and help thousands of people discover the world of (idm)Braindance for the first time...
However when I see the views on songs by gateway IDM artists like Rone and Aphex Twin who are by no means less talented, it's incredibly sad to see other just as talented artists of the genre only get crumbs in comparison. if I could, I would show every single one of you new to this genre in the comments some of the best underrated grates of our community; who are helping to evolve and pushing the envelope of braindance. Artists like Plaid, Chapelier Fou, Ochre, The Flashbulb, Squarepusher, Venetian Snares, Boards of Canada, and Kettle. Please give them a listen, and help this genre get more attention so we can get even more fantastic music and grow our community :)
Knowing this track one or two years after its release, I can gladly say that Rone and particularly this track participated in my life transformation. Wanting to create electronic music, moving to Berlin where I am still now.
This track is literally a life changer experience. And I still don't have enough of it.
Thinking back at it, it makes more sense chronologically that I discovered Rone around 2011 when I discovered Murcof, listened more to Clara Moto or Aufgang. Damn. What a throwback. 😳

I love this track, i cant help but wonder how killer it would sound with a Harpsicord synthisized instead of a synth keyboard. Thatd pull the spooky edge together nicely!!!

A bit of perspective interpretation on my part.
I believe the picture in the cover is Enkidu - made of clay and water, a wild half beast-half man who lived in the jungle - created by the goddess of creation Aruru to be a countervailing force for Gilgamesh...He has been raised by animals and grew up in the wilderness until the girl - Shamhat the sacred temple prostitute who beds him in the wilderness for two weeks and coaxes him into civilization.
The timeless concept of civilizing the wild boy into a civilized man - the Tarzan and Jane story.
On a different note, the concept of bringing the man out of the garden - the Adam and Eve story.
Also, fun how Nakt means Night in Lithuanian.

How are Plaid, BOC, Ochre or Venetian Snares "underrated greats"? What are you talking about? They're a different story. IDM in its pure form was never meant to be mainstream. As for Rone, his style is more palatable - but that's a different style... The same could be said to an even greater degree about BOC - which are basically "IDM for mainstream listeners" (look at their online groups - they're always self-congratulating about how "deep" BOC is - as if it makes them more complex as audience). And how do you pair Rone with Aphex, when Aphex clearly belongs in the group with Plaid and others, at least stylistically? The only reason he can be compared to Rone is because of his mainstream-sounding works, of which there's only a couple. He's no less 'real IDM' than anyone in the second group.
All those artists are good or great, but I fucking love Plaid and Ochre in particular.

I don’t know if I can . It’s like saying there’s a drink as good as coke. On some level I can’t compare anyone to boc. And would almost rather go further into their work than find new artists. I have listened to rone every day for a year or two and forgot about boc. But I’ve listened to boc every day for like ten years and forgot about everyone else. I put rone and and boc in my top five. Boc is top. Apex? Maybe top twenty. Imagine the disappointment I’d feel thinking I’d be getting something boc quality only to find apex . I’m not sure I can trust these new bands you’re talking. The let down would be too great .
