I'm on my first viewing of this series. I've been playing acoustic guitar for 25 years. I stopped what I was doing to learn the lyrics to this because this arrangement is so sweet and wonderful that I had to learn it immediately.
Levy's reaction/acting brings me to tears. So does the song.
      I adore this.

@@arineemickle that’s how it works so much of the time with Emmy’s and Oscar’s. When they feel someone got snubbed they get it years later. Pacino should have won for godfather 2 but got it for scent of a woman. Paul Newman deserved oscar for the hustler but it got for color of money! James gandolfini should have hot emmy for it every year for sopranos!

I never paid attention to the lyrics of this song before. This scene just knocked me out... Moira actually being maternal, dabbing her eyes, politely resenting the Schitt's interruption, touching David's arm tenderly... so many micro-moments that all combine to make a perfectly unexpected treasure, in one of my favorite shows. Well done. 👍 Perfect example of a first-rate ensemble cast.

So well said. You interpret it perfectly. It’s such a rich scene, beautifully nuanced by the expressions of the characters. I had never listened to the lyrics of the song before either and it was like hearing it for the first time. In the context of David’s and Patrick’s relationship, the lyrics are magnified and with it the delicate emotions of the pair, Moira and the crowd. Masterfully done.

Same! It was always just a pop song. Then somebody makes it acoustic, and changes the world just a little bit. I heard this scene described as a "watershed moment" for the representation of the LGBTQ community on TV, and it made perfect sense. THIS is what people deserve-EQUAL treatment. Not "in spite of" or "because of" their homosexuality. The fact that they're gay doesn't even play a part in the messaging . The only message is LOVE, and it's really beautiful.

Everything about that moment is perfect. The look on her face that says "This is beautiful", her eyes that convey the same message, the touch on the arm to reassure, and you can just barely make out that she mouths "My God". All of that makes her acting in this scene brilliant. And to be honest she probably wasn't acting. She has been around the Levy family for years and I am sure that her bond with that family and Dan in particular fueled her feelings in this scene. As someone said she cried through the whole thing (Which you can see her wipe her tears in the foreground on one of the camera angles). Just a brilliant and powerful scene.

I really love Dan and Noah's storylines especially the last episode of season 5. I'm hearing rumors that Dan feels it's time to end the show but I think it could go on a little bit longer. Eugene said "it will end when it ends."
I'm going to be sad when it ends because I've been such a big fan of Eugene's, since his and Catherine's time on SCTV, and I appreciate that Dan and the rest of the Levy clan are painting the entire LGBTQ community as well as the pansexual community in such a positive light.

The fact that the "gay" aspect takes a backseat to the "love" aspect is what makes it so special. The show doesn't feel the need to focus on their homosexuality, so these beautiful moments aren't "because of" OR "in spite of" their sexuality. It's Just Love, it's TRULY equal treatment. And I think that it's one of the most significant things to ever happen to the representation of LGBTQ in Hollywood, it's a much-needed paradigm shift. Imagine a world in which we DEFAULT to just treating everybody equal.

In an interview with Dan Levy, he said that was intentional of his show. To be set in a world where there isn't any homophobia, even though it's a small country town where you'd expect it. Any gender can couple together, and everyone else would just be like 'cool' and treat it like any other.
If you watch the series again, with this in mind you notice- yeah, no one ever does treat it like it's anything out of the ordinary.

I think that the fact that there is no homophobia or bigotry in Schitt's Creek is wonderful and that is why it means so much to LGBTQAI+ people and their allies. There never needed to be an angsty episode where people were commenting on David's Pan-sexuality, Patrick being Gay, Jake being Polyamorous (although I suspect that Jake is a Sexual Hedonist rather than Poly) or Ronnie being a Lesbian. Everyone just accepts everyone for who they are, and wouldn't that be a wonderful world to live in?

I love that this is one of the first and only times David wears colour, just as it's the first time he really let's his guard down, and allows himself to be serenaded in public.
He just looks so warm and loved, and omg I fell in love with Patrick, on David's behalf, in that scene ☺
