Man, seeing that Gould logo takes me back... My grandfather used to sell mining batteries for them in eastern Kentucky and his house was full of stuff like that.
Man I wish I could afford one right now. Seeing them brings back memories of when your channel was so small and I had asked you to blow it up and you did that slow-mo with it.
must be a pain having your relationship discussed like this... But i gotta say, she doesn't quite seem up to par with our chap. He could get a far more impressive lass with his accent alone.
yea.. gotta say i was a tad surprised at how much of a beaut she is. lets face it though i cant imagine any woman putting up with a whole house used as a workshop lol
ive seen suitable fuses for photon, on one job, a rewire of a rented house that drug dealers had converted into a cannabis farm they had used copper pipe cut to size as the main bs88 fuse and also on another site i discovered a chippy who had no fuses had used a nail bent back on itself in half to fit as s fuse in the plug of his transformer. i have also seen a photo of screws, blown fusea then wrapped in tin foil, bolts and cut to size threaded rod..... ive also seen a mouse who used itself as a fuse in an old wire fuse DB, assume it was an accident he had chewed his way into the board and brisged between the buzz bar and load side, was quite cooked, dont think he was very highly rated, could have ran LEDs for a while now adays
These fuses typically sit in a 3-Phase setup, so you will generally see 3 of these sitting side-by-side with a separator in between to prevent arc over. The contacts on the top of each will be mechanically linked (so they all disengage and engage at the same time). This will also generally be linked to a cutoff lever. When the explosive pin triggers it lifts the contact off the top of the fuse, which because its linked to the other 2 phases, that will lift the contact off all 3. The idea is to cause a current break on the entire circuit when any one blows to prevent phase imbalance.
It's to ensure the other two phases are taken offline as well during a fault. The striker pin hits a bar that disconnects all three phases at the same time from the feed inside the switchgear. If all the other fuses / relays in that 11Kv circuit (main ring) are graded correctly then only that sub gets disconnected and the HV guys only have to visit one site, rather than piss about at the transmission end CB's.
It's been ok. Had some troubles I been working on but all should be well soon here. I still watch all ur vids. Seeing you have fun gives me inspiration not to wanna blow up the earth. LOL
"They've all been upgraded because we're using too much electricity these days." Perhaps he means "they've all been upgraded because photoninduction has been using all the electricity." Does this guy have his own substation feeding his house? Perhaps that's where these fuses came from? lmao
Keep it up Andy, nothing gets me more excited than a new video from you in my sub box. By the way, could you possibly sign those fuses before posting them? I'd definitely buy one then..
I want a coconut with a signed pressure gauge and fully intact electrodes. Underneath a placard, "Don't Piss Me Off". It's for the next employee motivation meeting.
It's called a striker and has 2 purposes. 1. It is an indicator that the fuse has blown. 2. In three phase installations, it will trip all three phases if one fuse blows, as long as the switch gear has that ability.
ha-ha I have to say its them big bushings ;-)) they do look beautiful all sat there!! I see some went for a balloon ride ;-) did you get ya free bottle of bubbly?? or was it in your favour a case of beer lol Andy, that's insane mate the way than pin comes out mate?? wouldn't like to have me hand's near that when it goes!!!!!!!!! I think one of them would look good in my workshed lol thanks for sharing mate, THUMBS UP*
So you were in a hot air balloon that is pretty cool. And you would think those fuses would actually explode more aggressively but I guess not. Maybe put a little tannerite in it then pop it to make a nice pop.
You two and your misses are like some sort of post apocalyptic electrical engineering wizards. Great videos. How about some distance protection videos, just so you get out and about.
Wouldn't be much chance of me getting one of those fuses would there please? I collect the high voltage insulators and am showing them off at a local steam fair in Somerset. This would look cool on the table?
Nice video, the fuses on the poles around my house aren't nearly as large as that. Were you really the one that replaced the fuses? Or did you just get to keep them all?
When the pyrotechnic charge blows in the end of the fuse you said that pin releases to trip the remaining phases. Does it come into contact with something else? possibly a switch? What does the "fuse holder" look like? (for lack of better words)
Wow, that fuse at the end was massive! What exactly is the purpose of having powder in some fuses? I know most fuses from microwaves and CRTs are like that.
I love it when industrial versions of things look exactly the same as their consumer counterparts... only bigger :D
"Lets open it up carefully, shall we?" *Glass shards everywhere*
4:09 "Don't tell me the fuses have it, right?"
"........no."
YOU are the reason we need better fuses.
If you're ever near Rotherham/Sheffield let me know, you'd probably appreciate seeing our arc furnaces - 33kV 130MVA transformer with a tap changer to vary between 600V down to 50V on the secondary. Then we put a short on the output and melt 165 tons of steel with it :)
thats awesome
I love these older vids. Brings me back to 2013 & just began my interest in electrics.
u can hear the static in the misses hair
Mrs. P is looking great, all ready for a night on the town! Many thanks to both of you for continuing to give us these fascinating glimpses into your lives. Rock on.
0:51 "Let's open it up carefully" I was anticipating a hammer blow as usual
I admire how “carefully” you open things.
Lol, what's up with the dude in the back?? Is he just there to make the video more bad-ass?
Cool little gnome man
_He's only 12yrs old and obviously shows what kind of harmful rays Andy exposes inside that room. 0.o_

DUDE ur protective footwear is way better than my STEEL TOE BOOTS!!!!
Man, seeing that Gould logo takes me back... My grandfather used to sell mining batteries for them in eastern Kentucky and his house was full of stuff like that.
Thanks for the more frequent updates! I wish you had a show on TV because I'd watch it all day.
Protective footwear ... :)
That fact that he has the capability to blow these fuses really says something about him.
that thin string around the main trigger plastic, is pure silver just to let you know :)
Found one of these fuses in my mailbox today, crazy heavy, thanks again Photon, glad I could help support what you're doing!
...did you seriously just spill out the sand on the bloody carpet?
He hates his carpet
I would NEVER wanna be sitting on one of those when the pin pops through! OWWW!!!! :D
MrRootbrian RB yeah but that would pretty much mean you were trying to use your butt as an outlet, which is just a bad idea
carolyn mmitchell lol
That poor, poor carpet ;)
😂😂😂 mess carpet need new carpet
May I have a fuse for decorative purposes
_That pointy end on the fuse really longs to stab that big-toe poking out. "Let's try it, shall we boys?"_
Great video. I did one of those fuses ages ago. good demo with the striker pin.
Keep up the good work.
That piece of ceramic in the middle makes a damn good knife sharpener. I've got one sitting on top of my fridge just for that.
Man I wish I could afford one right now. Seeing them brings back memories of when your channel was so small and I had asked you to blow it up and you did that slow-mo with it.
they are just perfect and make my day when I see you have new uploads
I'm always happy when I see a new Photon vid. Well done on all those fuses. :)
Wow, I've always wanted to know what's inside one of those! Thanks man!
Hay photon. Have you done a video of some steel rods stuck in buckets of sand then putting some power through it. Amazing stuff right there
that was awesome I have always wondered what a substation fuse might look like
Jesus ur misses is nice
she left him
Good she seems like a bitch
I said that before they seperated. Now she's an ungrateful cow.

shut the fuck up you coxcombical prig.
Those pins popping out made me think of 'Phantasm'.
I thought that was a regular fuse in the thumbnail!
quick question, is there any fuse in the world that can stand up to photonic's shenanigans?
nuclear power plant?
You didn't read the question did you?
yea an iron beam
Well, it seems he didn't manage the 5 kA at the end.

Lovely lady, Andy! I hope you're together, happy, in 2023.
Great vid photon love thay big fuses
Very interesting stuff, thanks for this Photon!!!! Keep them up mate!
I adore your vids love the new changes and protective foot ware and the fuses I wonder how my plug would run on one of thoes
It looks like a massive novelty fuse. I want one!
only took a decade to pop the bigger fuse but it was well worth the wait
That last fuse is the hottest of them all.
Those fuses would make mighty nice cannon shells...
this guy organize kinda of short- circuit party , like : guys come on to blow up my fuses !!! :D
what do the explosive pins do specifically?, i mean, how do they trip the rest of the phases? how does that system works?
These fuses typically sit in a 3-Phase setup, so you will generally see 3 of these sitting side-by-side with a separator in between to prevent arc over. The contacts on the top of each will be mechanically linked (so they all disengage and engage at the same time). This will also generally be linked to a cutoff lever. The idea is to cause a current break on the entire circuit when any one blows to prevent phase imbalance.
My guess is that it completes a circuit above the fuse holder which shuts everything else off.

Protective Foot wear ! nice one Photon :) made my day
I see you finally got your balloon trip then :)
Ironically it's becoming more and more common on the railroads...
Great choice of safety shoes 👌
Keep up the work love it

It’s good to see slippers being worn to help protect the carpet.
"They've all been upgraded because we're using too much electricity these days." Perhaps he means "they've all been upgraded because photoninduction has been using all the electricity." Does this guy have his own substation feeding his house? Perhaps that's where these fuses came from? lmao
Jon Holt I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if he had a mini substation occupying his Backyard.

Want to know what happens if you try to blow one of those on the ultra cap
check out his latest video

We have those thing laying everywhere at work. So knife sharpeners are never in short supply. HPS elements work really good too.
you must have a really high electric bill...
The power gets really cheap during the night, therefore it isn't that much more of a cost as long as he preforms his experiments during the night.
Hi Photon, any tips on where to get hold of one of them nice VARIACS you use? Greta video channel by the way, very entertaining...
If that big fuse really is a fuse it definitely isn’t a fuse known to me
those fuses are huge. photon sends it off the scale so you don't have to.
One mans trash is another mans treasure. Damn i'm envious.
you're a lucky, lucky man, Photon :P
Nice!
4:05 .....Good evening, Mrs. Photon. :-) It's nice to see you in the video, and hope that all is well with you there. :-)
Take care,

Yes the shipping costs more. The fuse itself is $15.35
415V 3ph is the normal supply for light industrial use here in Britain. I've never heard of 347V, learn something new every day!
3:33, no boner jokes?, like none at all?
Interesting how those work
That sounds about right. Most of that is the shipping costs of course :P
4:07 That was wonderful. A true ladies man. :P
I think there's one fuse that refuses to blow. The misses I mean. She wins the most sexiest fuse
do these fuses explode when you put them on that big capacitor
What are some applications for industrial fuses apart from substations?
you always make awesome vids :)
