    It is not so common that a composer has very different styles and I like them equally. Some time ago we posted one of the videos that had the most impact on this project: the beautiful work by Karen Tanaka "Crystalline II". We had long wanted to complete the profile of her piano music with this impressive composition. In my opinion, a masterpiece of modern piano (another one by Karen Tanaka).
    To say that it is a favorite among my students is obvious. Its freshness, its energy without cease, its youth and its excellent pianism make of it an attractive work for young pianists. I discovered it with my superb student Itxaso Etxeberria many years ago and we did a magnificent job together ... what a joy that Itxaso follows much time later on the road of contemporary performance.
    It is a work of repetitive minimalist inspiration and a certain technical difficulty. Particular attention should be paid to the work of the left hand because it hardly breathes. You should be relaxed from the first moment of study and minimize arm activity. If not relaxed, you may have tension problems in the left arm.
    The memorization of these three pieces is a curious work ... sequences of numbers fill the head from the first to the last measure, as the material plays with multiple combinations and endless variations.

    Cool!! Super pieces superbly interpreted. Ideal for exploding the myth of elitism in contemporary music.

    Gracias!

    Thank you! Great to hear these works. So interesting! This kind or rhythmic consistency is something the standard rep hasn’t taught me to this extreme extent. Do you recall how long you worked on learning this music? I enjoyed it, thanks again!

      hi. It's difficult to remember. It was quite a long time ago. In fact, I think I worked on these pieces with my students before playing them myself. It was very a natural process. But I have to say that we drew several pages with numbers to be able to momorize all the patterns and variations. They are easy at first sight, but it becomes more difficult when you increase speed. And memorizing can be challenging in some parts...

      The video was from long ago so I really appreciate you trying to remember your history with the pieces. Thanks also for you reply. Great job again!

    Well, okay, technically impressive-but is there any kind of feeling being expressed here? (Other than the feeling of someone wanting to impress someone, I mean?)

    • @RicardoDescalzo
      @RicardoDescalzo  Před 2 lety +1

      There so many ways to feel and so many feelings involved while listening or playing music. If you don't feel anything it only means the music doesn't touch you. Not the same for me; and for so many people around that get exicted by it. I would even say that music doesn't need to make you feel anything. Music has value for itself (if you like the piece).
