This anime gave me exactly the same vibes as utawarerumono.
When you arrive at the point what happened to the rest of humanity except the protagonist... It gives some really nasty chills.
And also the fact that the child soldiers are "timed" and seen as mere objects really shatters your heart

This song reminds me of a song but i cant quite remember ... the tune, bgm...
This opening really breaks you cause you think there would be a good wholesome ending? But nooo
the ending litteraly made me cry, sad and broke me ;_; i knew to brace myself but the feels impact was so high it kinda destroyed the barrier...
and this series was so good and emotional, though they didnt adapt fully and kinda gave half confused ending
i really enjoyed it ... really hope there would be a 2nd season ...

I recommend reading the light novels! It has five volumes. The anime ended in third volume.
Although there has been a revision in the anime especially the part when Nephren was fighting and when Kotori was fighting the monsters.
In the fourth volume, we get to see more of Willem's back story and more knowledge about the monsters, the swords, and the fairies
