My single parakeet is a rescue and came from a home where she was terrorized by a cat (lost her tail feathers permanently). She has been with me for 6 years and I was advised not to get her a companion. But, she loves listening to other birds :)

I’m sure you’ve heard this many times but parakeets need to be at least in a pair.
@@peacebysound4711 My single parakeet was a rescue -- she had been traumatized by a cat and children before she was rescued, (I fostered then adopted her) and she could not be put with other birds. With daily attention, it took me a little over a year before she trusted me enough to even get on my hand.
@@peacebysound4711 I disagree. My bird is out with me constantly. I'm retired. I am her mate and she is a very happy bird. I've heard this many times and will continue to hear it and will continue to think it's hogwash if the situations are right.

My parakeet is now chirping as happily as these ones, she is a lonely one
Mine is, too. I was advised not to get her a mate (she's a rescue and was terrorized by a cat in her previous home). It took a full year before she trusted me enough to come on my hand inside her cage. That was a slow, arduous process.
This brought my parakeets out of hiding in the corner and such.. More active.
My new parakeets seem to feel way more comfortable when i play this! ❤

Yes. It's called the Cere. The darker it is its generally male.
