Bannerlord Tactics: How To Crush Strong Armies with Weak Troops, Volume III (RTS OVERHEAD edition)

- Welcome back future Khans, Emperors, Jarls and Sultans of Calradia! We're continuing to show our late-game campaign including huge battles, and winning(most) of these battles by deploying advanced tactics to overcome superior enemy forces. Our entire channel is dedicated to helping players improve their field command and if that's your desire, or just want to see huge, dramatic battles, you've come to the right place.
As requested from a subscriber, we venture into battle with a watered-down force of most middle tier troops and scrubs and take on a larger, more powerful Western Empire force. Can we perform enough wicked tactics with our inexperienced warriors to win the day? Watch and see...
We continue with our demonstration of the Killbox, a complex tactic involving kiting, four sided flanking and combined attacks to utterly annihilate enemy infantry forces with minimal losses. If you want to know more about this tactic, there is an entire playlist available here:
• Bannerlord Tactics: In...
This series, a side-branch of my late-game campaign, demonstrates how an army of mediocre and weak troops can take on, clash against and even WIN battles against the most powerful armies in Bannerlord, using tactics. This series is designed to help players further their field command to the point where they will fluidly move troops depending on situations, and win battles like a Legend.
Please comment, like and subscribe if you're interested in more of my ultra-late-game campaign, that may end up ending in utter despair, but that's the challenge of it. Any challenge where success is assured is no challenge at all.
My campaign is an extremely late-game campaign where I am resolved to give no peace to these scum Kingdoms attacking me - seven of the eight have been at war for years, with only Sturgia at a neutral stance. My family of warriors is now large though and with what remaining strength and valor we can must, we stand against the map of Calradia.
Join me on this adventure if you like huge battles, the use of advanced tactical maneuvers and intense Bannerlord gameplay, and subscribe to my channel if you want to follow along. This campaign is very lightly modded:
I use four mods:
Lord Retinue Uptier(Makes the enemy forces stronger, much less peasants and lower ranked troops)
www.nexusmods.com/mountandbla...
Improved AI Troops(Also makes enemy lords and their armies tougher by giving them a higher daily xp rate. This means you'll routinely face armies with HUGE numbers of the highest tier units, sometimes four or five times the normal amount in vanilla Bannerlord): www.nexusmods.com/mountandbla...
Death for all: This mod allows you to set the rate at which nobles die more often. I want both a harder challenging late-game but also a more realistic game. If you're cut down with a massive aserai two-handed axe, you shouldn't just be injured 99.9% of the time. It's a very customizable mod so you can just a little more death or set the death rate so high you get several deaths every battle. The number I often like is '10', some deaths but not a massacre of nobles...
www.nexusmods.com/mountandbla...
I also use the Dismemberment Plus Mod: It's highly customizable and works seamlessly with the new beta(and versions back to 1.28). I thoroughly recommend it if you enjoy carnage!:
steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
I've also used Realistic Battle Mod in the past and highly recommend it for Ai and battle realism BUT I find the pace too slow for my taste and the AI is actually rather predictable after a half dozen battles. Still I wanted to put a plug in for it here, it's a GREAT mod and highly configurable. www.nexusmods.com/mountandbla...
Much of the music and inspiration for this and other videos in the channel are inspired by Epic History TV - probably THE best channel on youtube(and the internet for that matter) covering the Napoleonic wars. With amazing work Epic History TV takes you through the dramatic and incredibly story of Napoleon covering all of his most famous battles. I HIGHLY recommend it.

The best Bannerlord content out there! Insane skills, commentating while actually pulling off crazy battle dances!
Thank you mate, you honor me greatly! It IS hard to narrate while I play but the more I do it, the easier is gets. Using the RTS mod makes it much easier to narrate too though I made a few small mistakes...
Bro your videos are mad cool. They're my new daily watch
Thanks, bud, I'm feverishly working on more content, so I hope you continue to enjoy :)
Thank you for giving us enlightenment for the use of battle and war tactics we need to utilize in this game.
Voltaire would be happy to know we're using the enlightenment to good use, haha!
This is sick. Very cool to see these tactics work with peasant troops. Would love to see you combat a large cavalry force with low end troops.
Loving the rts. Much easier to see your formations
Working on it, friend! Had an unreal battle against the Vlandians a few days ago, just need to finish the processing :) Thanks for the compliments, and while it's not always going to be using the RTS mod, I'll do it when it seems very necessary!
Wow! I love the birds eye view that battle was pure epic so cool with the music kicking in just as your army full charges in badass
Thank you - we'll do more RTS mod views for some of these, it appears a lot of you guys enjoy this perspective and probably glean more tactics from them...
commenting for the sake of algorithm things, and also really cool videos which needs some attention :)
would love to see you deal with kuzaits btw, both playing horsearchers and fighting them
Thank you for the support! Just had a superb/challenging battle against the Khuzait with this weaker army(though I upgraded it some just to go toe to toe with the Khuzait), processing soon, then an upload. Stay tuned. :)
Damn i thin with this Video you are as good in explanation as Flessen19 and Strat Gaming Guides.
Impressive!
High praise, friend and I'm new to the process, so even higher praise. Thank you!
Love your content bro. Lets go!!!
Stoked to hear it, plenty more coming, and it's as fun to fight these tough battles as it is for you to enjoy/learn from them. I appreciate all of your nice comments.
Love the RTS mode! Gives a better look into how to use tactics.
Thanks brother, it's been often requested, so I'll try and mix a few more in...
i've been playing this game for more than 260 hours , and now i wish i saw your channel before that 260 hours
I'm not sure my channel helps brand new players, but I think with my(7,000 hours, I know, insane), I have at least a little to offer most experienced players.
Thanks for the kind words!
Im glad someones still making bannerlord content, everyone else moved on to manorlords
I've checked that game out but it doesn't seem to have ANYTHING like the combat system of Bannerlord. Am I totally naive?
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions No you're not, as much as I also like Manorlords, the games are not comparable
Archers: Sir the enemy is over that hill we can't shoot! The commander: - It's soon 17.00 It's almoust time for tea! - But Sir! - I SAID Tea time! 😂
haha, no doubt, cocky and expecting to win, no tea for them...
great video as always! lemme ask, how do you fight the time you have about 50 units maximum and the enemy has about 200 or at least 100+, no matter the level in this case, i guess kill box is not an option... how would you fight it?
It's not quite as effective but you can actually still use a kill box with 60 or 70 troops just make sure you have four divisions with arranged attacks and surround the enemy in a similar manner to these videos 15 units in four different groups will still pound an enemy infantry division
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions is a nice idea, to pull the enemy into the box, a cav archer? they are faster to move and still shooting, while inf archers surround them. instead infantry
@@maxxgrumpy For sure, you can pull back with infantry, then sides archers and behind enemy cav archers...
cool channel! is there any combat enhancing mods that buff ai difficulty? i play with rbm. thanks.
Not directly no. There are two or three months that I use that do increase the strength of enemy armies, and by increasing the strength of enemy armies you make combat more difficult. If you're interested see the mods in the description. And thank you!
Definitely effective with khusaut horse archers
Yep, haven't played much as Khuzait myself, but I was able to maul enemies using horse archers in custom battles...
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions i tried horse archers a couple of times and that seems to be kinda boring because horse archers can usually deal with everyone if they have enough arrows
@@S.Gamedev-zc2wp Yes, I've tried a khuzait campaign and while I was often able to win battles, it was tedious enough and slow battles so I got tired of it and went back to my main campaign.
I haven't tinkered with battlefield control too much as I'm in the process of leveling skills still (new player), can I keep the overhead view without the RTS mod?
Unfortunately no, the RTS mod provides the overhead view and that's not available in vanilla bannerlord
Would appreciate to see how you battle Vlandia. In my campaign, they’ve been the most well rounded fighting force. Their banner knights are extremely lethal. Winning battles, but suffering heavy casualties almost every time.
Great timing - I just fought one of these 'weaker army' battles against the Vlandians, and while the tactics were very advanced and perhaps difficulty to emulate, it was a success, Banner Knights and all. Stay tuned, processing and an upload later this week bud.
Also stuggling with Vlandia and their massive army sizes (They are fking rich in every campaign so far 😅)
16:55 How did you do that horse laugh!?
lol, I'm 50% Irish, 25% german, 25% Clydesdale...
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions I believe you.
are you using RTS camera mod? did you get it to work for 1.2.9 or are you playing on previous versions?
Previous version - I've been lucky enough to keep mine stable(somehow) and not get updates. Also most of my videos were produced weeks before you see them(I have a back-log), and then I process them/add music, polish, etc so you're watching a dated game update often times...
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions oh i see thank you! also sorry to bother you but is the troop formation display (those little bright green orbs that tells you where troops will be positoned) from a mod or a previous game version? in my game the display is a dark green flag wich is absolutly lost to the sight when commanding from far away or big battles lol
RTS mod, you want it - go get it!
There’s a working RTS on the current version?
I think I am 1.28 something, it works well as of today, May 12th, 2024.
Yeah! Nerf that guy in particular! Lol. I know that feeling IRL..
Gave him a bow for the next fight haha!
This is such a cool series, I like it alot. I very much enjoyed the rts view of the battlefield too.
I have a new video I'm working on that will come out either tonight or later today called 1 vs 120. Its my first attempt at voice over commentary. I hope you'll check it out and let me know what you think. I could use some healthy constructive criticism. Stay awesome.
Thanks, friend, I appreciate all the kind words. 1 vs 120? Pretty crazy unless it's mostly low level troops! I'll check it out for sure...
Oh it's certainly low level troops I'm fighting. All of the other kingdoms are super ragged at this point. If giving them gold would help their troops quality I would but I've tried and it doesn't.
It's still a pretty good battle though I think it's worth the time it takes to watch it. It's uploading now so it'll be available in 6 hours or so, my Internet is pretty awful. It's only 16+ minutes long.
How you go in RTS mode ?
It's a mod you have to add:
www.nexusmods.com/mountandblade2bannerlord/mods/355
So it’s the same strategy as when you first boot up the game and fight your first few looters and whatnot that outnumber you: kite them to death
Hah, pretty much, just with a few nuances... I originally learned kiting years ago in PvP games and it's perfectly applicable to both multiplayer and single player bannerlord.
We all can agree that we love this unfinished game ? xoxoxo :D
Well the great part, if you want to be positive, is there should be more mods coming that make the game even better, and TW might even(shocking I know!), improve their own game at some point. .. This game may very well have a ten year shelf-life, it's already enjoyable and can be so much better!
split up the fish ball and go all 4 directions.
That's what they should do, but they can't... (and why I use 8 divisions). Somday if Bannerlord(or a mod) allows for 500 vs 500 pvp, the guys using more army groups and fighting coherently with them will probably be winning the most...
If only the ai knew square formation. 😂
The AI needs a big boost in general, ya.
Wowo, swamp terrain? Looking good
Got some swamp battles coming ya :)
Does not need tactics when you can solo half of the enemy 😂
Many people can't solo half the enemy lol, even a high level character in my own campaign I never kill more than 1/10th or so of the combatants.
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions obviously just a joke, while that feat is very possible in the original Mount and Blade.
But still due to we are being OP as the main character, obvious tactics are either: You go with a very strong flank and rip apart the opposite flank then roll them over, or you are in the middle of a low quality troops center then holding for your stronger flanks to crush them
@@phanhuyduc2395 Sounds like you're a fellow flanking artist. Admittedly the easiest way to win often, but it does take some good timing and battle concepts....
Manorlord Combat update.
I've heard about Manorlord, whatcha sayin' bud?
second
Really wish bannerlord wasnt an incomplete disappointment. Very little replayability, and they have no intention of finishing it
I would argue about the replayability, but not because of Bannerlord in vanilla form, with mods though I think it has a LOT of shelf-life, and more probably coming...
