If both goalie and player are going after puck, and the goalie is outside their crease, there is no goalie interference call upon contact. Look at it in slow motion, the goalie is clearly outside the crease, plunging for the puck. Both her knees are on the white, her pad is up in air hovering over the crease. That's a good goal.

And the nonsensical tripping call too... Not to take anything away from team USA who played a great tournament, but the refereeing in this situation was subpar.

Goalie wasn't completely out of crease, Fin player didn't make an effort to avoid goalie, goals can be recalled but not penalty on the goalie tripping because it was wrong in light of the interference

@@tekkenfan01 You're such a nimrod. Almost everyone including most Americans who watched the game thought the goal was good. And you write those stupid ass replies to everyone, not for a second thinking, hey, maybe it's not everyone else who's wrong, maybe it's me. Let me just break it down to you in very thoroughly.
Rigsby leaves her goalie crease to try to play the puck. Hiirikoski steers to the left as hard as she can, avoiding the goalie crease but being unable to dodge Rigsby who's out of her crease. The way the ref on ice sees the situation was Rigsby tripping Hiirikoski, and she immediately calls a delayed penalty for Rigsby. That's right, the US goalie is getting a penalty, not any Finnish player. Watch the situation at 1:00 in the video. The ref immediately raises her hand to signal a delayed penalty. She's in the perfect spot to see the situation, too. There's no conceivable penalty for the Finnish team here.
And I know what you're going to say. Some wiseassery about "Oh Rigsby's left foot still barely hovered over the goalie crease". It doesn't matter. She had left the crease, and most importantly the contact happened clearly away from the goalie crease. Hiirikoski did not enter the goalie crease. You can't just keep one body part at the edge of the goalie crease and make everything goalie interference that way. Or do you often see goalies in the NHL dive at the opposing team's players making a screen and getting them penalties? Of course you don't. Don't be an idiot, nimrod. Rigsby left the goalie crease, and the contact happened way clear of the goalie crease, simple as that.
Immediately after that Nieminen scored, and the same ref called goal, by pointing her hand at the goal. That's how hockey refs signal goal. It's not some secret hand signal that says, oh I've changed my mind let's give the other gal a penalty instead. No, it's the actual sign refs make to communicate that a goal has been scored in this net right here. Seeing as you're a nimrod, I feel I have to explain it to you.
In ice hockey there are delayed penalties. The play doesn't stop until the team about to be penalized gets control of the puck. That's why they call it a delayed penalty. So in this situation the play does not stop simply because Rigsby made a foul. The American team first has to get control of the puck, and then they'll get the 2 minute penalty. But they don't get control of the puck, and Nieminen scores. According to the rules of hockey, Finland should have won the game and the world championship right there.
Now let's forget about all that and think what if. What if somehow Hiirikoski made a foul. What if it was goalie interference (which it wasn't as we can see from the video, but again we're talking what if right now). Then she should get a penalty, not Rigsby. In a situation like this where a goal is called into question, there are exactly two options. Either the goal is good or the scoring team has committed a foul just before scoring and hence they will get a penalty and the goal will not count. In this situation either it's a goal or Hiirikoski gets a penalty. Try to get that through your nimrod head. There are no other options. But when the play continued, team USA got a penalty, and the goal didn't count. What? That makes absolutely no sense. According to the rules of hockey, this situation cannot exist. If team USA committed the foul just prior to the goal, then the goal counts. The referees made a mistake so grave they created a situation that cannot exist in hockey. The goal was not counted and the team scored upon was the one to commit a foul. Absolutely mad.
I know what you're going to say. "Oh but the video ref can't cancel a penalty, only a goal." Exactly. That's the one single thing you're right about. It's too bad you don't understand the implications of the one single thing you're right about, though. Because if they can't modify penalties, then obviously it's not their intended purpose to comment on penalties the on ice refs issued. Yet that's exactly what she tried to do. She said, hey, that thing you saw as tripping, I think it should have been goalie interference instead, and that's why this goal doesn't count. She didn't check whether the puck was inside the goal or if there was a foul the on ice ref missed. She didn't do her job. She exceeded her powers and took a situation that the on ice referee did see and call (again, from a perfect angle, by the way), and said she has a different opinion on it and she's canceling the goal on those grounds. Maybe she had bet a million dollars on team USA or maybe she was just a huge douchebag, but what a goddamn circus.
In conclusion Hiirikoski steered clear of the goalie crease, couldn't avoid contact with Rigsby, and the ref who was right next to the situation thought it was so clearly Rigsby's fault that it warrants a tripping call for Rigsby. Nieminen scored the winning goal, and then a complete robbery happened, when the video ref started playing god. Finland won fair and square, and they were robbed.
I even have a couple of extra highlights to demonstrate just how big of a farce the refereeing in the game was. After the call was made, Mustonen the Finnish team's coach rushed onto the ice to protest. He should have immediately been ejected from the game according to the rules. He wasn't. Instead he was allowed to challenge the ruling, and the coach can't challenge rulings if the team's timeout has already been taken, which it was.
So there you go. Comprehensive explanation to why you're objectively wrong and an idiot. It's up to you if you'll keep being a nimrod or not. If I were you I'd go, hey, maybe the fact that everyone disagrees with me, they have actual arguments to support their position and a clearly superior understanding of the sport and the situation, is enough to make me reconsider, or at least delete my brainless zero value comments like "Nope, sorry for you".

Alright so as a referee in Finland in Mestis (the second highest hockey in FInland) and U20 National league, I can say that what they were looking for was contact with the goalie (was it deliberate or avoidable) and whether they felt like possession had changed away from Hiirikoski. Whether the call was right or not is always up for debate. I personally feel like these calls are really really tough to make even for us when using video review. So even though I do not (looking at these angles) agree on the decision they must have had conclusive evidence and better angles that aren't shown here. Sad that this happened because Finland would have deserved this SO much, but these things happen...

You're not at a top league like SM though and even top league referrees make mistakes. The rules are quite clear, and the goalie leaped in front of the player outside the crease, so avoiding action was taken but not possible. The referree hiding her mouth so that people would not know what they're talking about is complete bs, and so is IIHF's behaviour in quite many events, allowing countries to pressure refs to change results. I like hockey especially, but sports are kind of more ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ to me nowadays because of the corruption and politics that happen all the time.
