A great night of sleep followed by a glorious morning view and perfect weather for our long, hot hike across the lava fields along with glacially-cold river crossings that were BRUTALLY painful within seconds. I got to know Ben and Kimmie who I continued to connect with on the trail and became friends quickly.
This section of the trail was a mental battle rather than a physical one as they scenery and trail didn't change much for the entire final 7 miles out of Hvengilir. This is a section best hiked with people or with music.
