#1 rule: WORK A GIG AS SOON AS YOU CAN EVEN IF YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT. You will learn soon enough
#2 rule: Don't take shit from other musicians who you know are trying to bust your chops for no other reason than to be mean. Protect yourself, your music and your integrity.

Socializing musically is a dying activity. What I am referring to is getting with other band members to practice, jam and/or rehearse. We live in a fast pace society which affect a persons willingness to pour into the synergy of playing with others and the music.

@8:11 "Steal a set. Come on!"
I love it; the attitude of a true artist. Reminds me of a really good Werner Herzog interview where he talked about taking his first camera from his university. “I don’t consider it theft. It was just a necessity. I had some sort of natural right to this tool. If you need air to breathe, and you are locked in a room, you have to take a chisel and hammer and break down a wall. It is your absolute right.”

Of course you need to learn to play blues. Then again, neither Dizzy nor Bill Evans was a blues player. Both could get by when necessary, but there is such a thing as jazz without a blues in every set or every album.
