    My old hood. Lived there for 50+ years. At 29:22 the building on the right corner ("Checks Cashed") used to be a restaurant called Esquire. Had fantastic shakes and burgers. A few doors down (at 29:48) is a bakery that was there when I was 5 yrs old (I am 67 now !!). Laury's always had phenomenal Eclairs ! It has stood the test of time and is still present. Amazing.
    At 30:03 is a McDonald's on the left side. It was built there in 1967 and was the first McDonalds anywhere to have indoor seating. The reason was Oak Park had an ordinance stating "no drive in restaurants", which at that time, every McDonalds was. Since Ray Kroc was from Oak Park, he wanted a store in his town....so they put in stand up tables so you could eat inside.

      One of the intentions of starting this channel was to cater to the expatriates and evoke nostalgia as well as trying to show different aspects of Chicago. Thanks for your feedback. Stay tuned there's more to come.

    It's crazy how St. Louis and Chicago look and feel so similar....of course, Chicago is way more densely populated and bigger, but they look similar.

      You are crazy. The Westside is just the forgotten side of chicago. They look down on us.

    I've just discovered your channel, and I'm loving your videos. You're showing people our city, but not in a sensational way...you simply pick an area and drive through. I feel like the way you showcase Chicago truly allows people to see it for exactly what it s, and I appreciate that, you just got a new subscriber!

    Love the videos question which order should I watch to get like a legit tour like where one ends the other picks up or close to it??

    • @accyocam291

      Hi Team Kayos. Thank you for watching and your feedback. Actually I really don't have any sequence to my videos. Only pattern I follow is that I have been going counter clock wise from northside to westside and then to southside. I still have a lot to film before I feel like a complete tour of Chicago is complete. Thanks again for your comments and feedback

    Pay attention to how many empty lots you see. Each patch of grass was a home or business burned to the ground in the Riots of ‘68

    I'm the 80s and 90s when I was a kid Madison would be full of people. The killings have gotten so bad. People don't walk unless they have to

    Where did you stop! Did you go all the way to Maywood?

    • @accyocam291
      @accyocam291  Před 4 lety

      Just up to 1st Avenue at the border of Maywood and Forest Park.

      @@accyocam291 at 1st Ave (on all corners) is all Maywood, to north before river is River Forest, to south Forest Park. Glad drove all the way out, is misperception all suburbs are sprawling places, reality is the four most densely populated municipalities in IL are all in near west suburban Chicago, the city is #5. Stone Park, Cicero, Berwyn and Elmwood Park highest density (though neighborhoods within city higher, lots of open land and manufacturing area in city).

    29:20 you are now in oak park. No longer chicago. This is my hood as a child. I walked Austin a million times. Got stuck up 3 blocks away. Dudes pulled a tec 9 on me. I was 18. Lol

    Ditch the depressing music what are we looking at why didn't you put in the cross streets that you're passing everything looks different the old neighborhood don't even recognize it don't even know what street you're passing bad video
