I came to conclusion that these classic vibe squier are filling the role of old pawn shop offsets from back in the day. They are:
-affordable and available (sonic youth used offsets because they were cheap and a lot of pawn shop had them because they weren't as popular as strats teles and les paul's),
-they are not always perfect so you mod them yourself, (just like sonic youth and cobain guitars, and many others ),
-spec wise they are a vintage instruments,
-they sound great and are really playable.
Squire became kind of its own brand (still based on fenders projects) that fullfill different needs of players. It just proves that squier are equaly good as fenders, just with different function as a range of instruments.
Most definitely cheap to buy easy to mod and look cool as fook 🤘🎸 all models are easily modded
I love squiers they r great ppl are just brand snobs I think they r usually way better than mex fenders any day my mustang and supersonic r the shit soo nice I stand by squier ppl need to just take a chance with them and they would fall in love
I'm like trying really hard to not be a gear snob, nothings out there to help me but i'm really liking these classic vibes, especially the jaguar. I'm thinking of buying one and modding it into a kurt cobain jaguar
Wow. Instead of shelling out 1 grand for Kurt's signature Mustang, I can get the exact same thing for 700 dollars less. Thanks!
It's definitely not the exact same guitar but looks the part
@@theguitarmanifesto Oh yeah, I'd just need to swap the bottom pickup and maybe repaint the body to the original Sonic Blue, but it's close enough!
@@MaxIThink sounds like a plan
RIP Mr. Kurt Cobain 🎸 1967-1994
Ahmen brother
FK you Cortney...What a HOLE
@@bencarpenter5711 you clearly don't know nothing about kurt, just shut it lol
How do you know?
My mustang came in a few weeks ago and I have loved it ever since.
Just got this guitar today. I am used to playing on Kurt's signature jag, w/ the nice smooth neck and the way the strings have to go on, wierd. Other than that, it's super light, bridge pickup sounds like fire. So yes, this is my favorite squier. They been stepping up their game.
Very cool guitars
Dang! You make those Mustangs sound so good! You got me started on them now, I like it more than I thought, bought the last VM in stock at Alamo Music, they gave me a great deal and I love the way it feels in the hand, like Snap-on tools! Thanks Rob!
Thanks glad you dig the sound I get from them, these Squier Mustangs are as good as any Fender Mustang I've played
I never had any problem using a traditional Mustang bridge on my Vintage Modified - despite the theoretical radius mismatch it plays perfectly, and better than the adjustable bridge.
Watched the live unboxing for this🤘great review
Ah awesome was a fun live stream, thanks bro 😎🎸👌
I've just got one today, It is more skystang blue than white blue. I bought one of these first time last year and it was more white than blue. Since last year have they made these more blue as you can tell the difference between photos of the one I bought last January to the one that I bought today
Bought this guitar (vintage white color) recently.
I love it!!
Awesome guitars and great colour🎸💯
@Граф Гришнак Better? Well, that is just a matter of taste. I prefer *vintage white* all the way. This *sonic blue* looks very bland for my taste.
Man, my dad gave me his ‘67 mustang to play on while in college, which is weird because I play bass, and I was thinking of picking up a squire 60s so I wouldn’t hurt anything on the ‘67
you could always send it to me 😂
Yeah get the Squier they're awesome, really take care of that 67 Fender Mustang.
Its my personal opinion but instruments are ment to be played.
I really I hope I get one for my birthday next weekend. Thank you for the review I’m real big fan of Kurt cobain
Ah awesome glad you liked the review
The Guitar Manifesto good news I got THE GUITAR
That's awesome 😮🤘🎸 such a cool guitar enjoy 😎
7:50 This might just be the best lead tone I've heard from a guitar ever.
Good old distortion, chorus, delay 🤘🤘
Squires really stepping up their game I bought the classic vibe 70s hss strat a while back and it’s my main axe now I’m looking at this one now
Squiers have been awesome for a long time the classic vibes are too notch 🤘🎸 yes the Mustang is a beaut 👌
The Guitar Manifesto do u think if I add a Seymour Duncan jb in the bridge I’ll be able to Nail cobains tone?
I wouldn't say nail it but you'll get the general sound
They still haven’t stepped it up to the level of quality they did back in the 80s
I know this review is 3 years old but I love the narrow tall frets. I wish more guitars came with them. It's a matter of personal preference of course.
I'm a jumbo fret kinda guy 🤣
I wanted to wait for the cv 70 jag, but hearing bout all these thoughts I went for a second hand Classic Player Jag, as you suggested me... In the end I think that mex Classic Player are still very good quality guitars, I bought a 2013 guitar so avoided pau ferro fretboard and I don't have to change the brige... Thanx man, your reviews were useful.
Good choice the fender classic player is a fine guitar with awesome sounding pickups. like you say got a decent bridge and a rosewood board. Glad the videos helped 👌🎸
Squire has totally redeemed them selves from the late 90,s early 2000's now i want to own these. they sound and play like the old MIJ models which i used to own but sold off. get em while they are hot! and make sure you have them set up by a real tech and not the kid from dominos who got hired at guitar center after sitting through a 40 minute company video on setting up a guitar.
Superb review mate. I'm getting one of these based on that saaaweeeeeeeet sound
Awesome it's a great guitar, glad you enjoyed the review 🎸🤘 rock on
I am getting tempted to return to the guitar store for one of these or the VM Jag lol these sound so good
Personally due to the frets I'd got for the VM
Awesome demo/review as always. Been curious about this guitar . Sounding like the vintage modified is the better option.
Thanks bro, mate it's the frets that totally let the guitar down 😪
@@theguitarmanifesto Thats so surprising because the classic vibe stuff is usually so stellar.
Personally it's only the frets, I've heard people have gotten them sanded and that it plays flawlessly
the fret metal is quite soft so I can't see them lasting long if you sand them right down
Sounds killer! I was thinking about buying the Vintage Modified. Definitely interested in seeing the comparison. Good job
I'm also interested to hear how the pickups compare 👌🎸
I just ordered one of these guitars. Can’t wait for it to come in!
How are you getting on with it??
One sweet-sounding and affordable Mustang!
It sure is
The narrow-tall frets are ok if your playing style has a light touch. If you have an iron grip, then the action feels high even when it's actually low to the frets. I have a newer Jag with those frets and I always have to remember to lighten my grip. I may get them filed down someday.
Yeah I get ya I understand a lot of people see this as a welcome change, unfortunately I have a heavy touch so for me they are no good.
I hope these Classic Vibe's are made with the same quality as the Classic Vibe Tele's and Strat's. They were a huge success on the back of their quality for the price. I hope that the standard of these are the same and they're not just cashing in on the reputation of the Classic Vibe line
The quality is fine apart from some sharp frets but that could be down to rushing out the first batch. The major flaw for me is the tall narrow frets which I believe they now use on most of the range, they are really uncomfortable to play enough so I probably won't bother with any of the other models.
@@theguitarmanifesto Yeah, i'm not a fan of tall skinny frets. I don't mind my women tall and skinny, but not frets. I don't think these new Classic Vibe's will be something i consider buying without giving them a proper try out first.
Ahmen to that 😂😂👌 yeah try one yourself, not sure if you caught the unboxing video? I played just a couple of riffs and had large indents in my fingertips from the frets
This guitar is so cool....I might have just become a mustang fan 😳
They're very cool guitars that's for sure 🎸💯👌😎
Why can't Squier put a nice looking blue color in their stuff instead of that crappy white looking one
It's not even close to the original Fender sonic blue
look like satin sonic blue color
*Sonic Blue 😁
The “Vintage White” color looks pretty cool
Hope they do a daphne blue one one day. The original Mustangs had a very nice daphne blue one in the selection. Those are to die for. But I do like this one. And that vintage white is also an incredible colour that this does come in. Crazy value for money.
Bought one today! Its beautiful but i have to do a little refinishing.
Hey Rob, guitar looks awsome. Sounds great for the price. Shame about those frets though, never tried narrow tall frets but I'd imagine I'd prefer jumbo. Really liked the solo you did 😂. Saw you wearing a Foo fighters T-Shirt, I'm going to see them in August at Belfast vital ( it's a big music festival in Northern Ireland ), very excited!
Thanks bro looks and sounds the part but those frets are not for me.
Glad you liked the solo 👌
Ah nice they are great to see live they play for a full 3 hours, will be awesome 🎸💪
The Guitar Manifesto Yeah can't wait! Put out some more Nirvana covers myself today, check them out if you have time. It would be much appreciated😂👍
Awesome I'll check them out when I get a chance and some peace and quiet 😂
The Guitar Manifesto Thanks!
No worries bro
I wanted to preorder one of the Classic vibes but then I've read a review at Thomann. One guy wrote that the pickups on the 70's teles are nice but the rest is garbage. Frets sharp, knobs bad. I remember how good the made in china classic vibes were and are. No sharp frets, nice sound and nice quality. My 50's Strat is really nice. Lets see how good the Jaguars and Jazzmasters will be
I think it's like when Fender rushed out the Player series models quality control was bad, the tall narrow frets are enough to put me off any other guitars in the range unfortunately.
@@theguitarmanifesto Agree on the Player series thing. I play a lot fast powerchords so the frets put me off aswell. Sad.
@@void0094 yeah it's really disappointing
I was digging the jam segment. Nice tune.
Thanks bro 🎸👌
Awesome video as usual mate!I've just purchased this guitar, before they send it out they will set it up for me.What should they do to make it as close to Kurt cobains Mustang as possible?Like the Intonation?
I replied on FB 👌
I’m gonna buy the guitar, HOWEVER I’m gonna but a 60s Jaguar neck and bolt that on. Original Jagstang style. And I’ll okay the price of a regular Mexican mustang.
Sounds like a good plan to me
Amazing looking guitar, great review, great playing i SUBBED
She's a beaut, thank you very much welcome to the channel 👌
I've owned several Japanese Reissue Mustangs and also the Squier Vintage Modified. In comparison the Squier looked pretty much like the real thing, but somehow it sounded and felt differently. The pickups were much hotter and the bridge-saddles were a nightmare. The body was thicker too, it felt a bit clunky compared to the Japanese models. I hope the Classic Vibe is closer to the original.
I've also had plenty of vintage American and Japanese Fenders in the past along with many Squier Mustangs never noticed a huge difference if I'm honest. For the price range the Squier VM is very close to the 65 model IMO. The new CV model has narrow tall frets so it's a big let down for me
Here's one such comparison I made czcams.com/video/sfI_YnkLnak/video.html
They wanted narrow tall frets for a "vintage feel"
Vintage Mustangs never had them, darn those meddling hipsters 😂
The Guitar Manifesto, do you feel the taller frets make it easier for hammer ons but make sliding difficult? They make the tall frets seem a premium feature. I haven’t really tried one. Keep up the channel - always going stuff!
No difference with hammer ons absolutely awful for sliding bad move Squier
Great playing man, did you ever have any problems with this classic vibe mustang? And what would be you’re favourite classic vibe guitar?
It's a fine guitar no problems at all, personally I like the Jazzmaster 👌🎸
That tort' looks gorgeous. Sure beats the sliced salami pickguards.
Oh heck yeah
Great review. This track is pretty sick! Is this your own song again? I loved it...
Thank you very much, yes it's one of my own jams
@@theguitarmanifesto I actually listened to it my car on the way to work. I wish I had a tab for it. I'm not good enough to play stuff by ear...
I only play by ear and feel
Just ordered one! Can’t wait!
How is it??
@@luxiously It's amazing! Obviously if you're going for a Kurt Cobain look it won't have the body contours, but that aside it plays great and feels great all stock. I have yet to upgrade it to Skystang I specs
@@extraterrestrial736 hmm I’m truly thinking of ordering it the frets and fretboard feel good? You can get away with playing nirvana on it hopefully I suppose? Is the quality same from let’s say a fender mustang (not squire) if you’ve tried a mustang. Be honest🙏
@@extraterrestrial736 what’s with this classic vibe 60s? Is the pickups 60s or something
@@luxiously Well I got to hold Kurt Cobain's actual Skystang I and I can say it's not *exactly* the same, his guitar was a lot lighter and the neck and body (mainly due to contours) is different. That's my one and only experience with a real mustang believe it or not! But to answer your question about playing comfortability , it really is a smooth playing guitar with fretboard and all. And of course you can get away with playing Nirvana. (Coming from somebody who owns multiple replica Kurt Cobain guitars)
I got one of these when I went to have the pickups changed and it flipped to play left handed I found out the neck pocket was cut too deep and it was tight on the neck
Strange one
Love the playing!
Thanks dude glad you like my style 🎸👌
Thanks for the review!
Great playing BTW cheers
No worries bro hope you found it helpful, thank you very much :)
dudes already got one
Classic Vibes? Wow, i didn't know there was a classic vibes mustang
Was shown at NAMM
Hi man, was wondering if you’ve seen the “new” sonic blue classic vibe mustang? It’s a much bluer blue and brighter red tort….ive seen it in a shop next to the normal light blue/almost white sonic blue like in this video, Theres not much documentation of it online except for one CZcams video….figured you’ve must of seen it by now since you buy guitars all the time
From what I can see it still looks the same shade?
I waited and wait for this or the jaguar to be released.... still not in stock at Sweetwater. So I just bought a strat instead... on top of that my Sweetwater rep never contacted me with the Jaguar differences after he said he’d email me. I just looked it up right after I talked to him anyways but still. That email might have persuaded me to patiently wait for the jag.
I don't deal with reps they're bloody useless 😂
Idk if it's still there but I noticed s few months ago sweetwater had an $80 upgrade for a bone nut? Which its comes with stock so idk if that was a mistake or something. I know its not an option at guitstcenter and it's the same $400 price.
NIIIIQQ - it’s a stock option. You just don’t choose it if it has one I believe. They offer it on every guitar.
The new classic vibes have bone nuts
@@theguitarmanifesto that's what I mean why are they offering it as an $80 upgrade if it already comes on it. But apparently that's just a website thing that is always an option on every guitar so just ignore it?
Another excellent and informative video, thanks! For £20 more you can have the Jaguar, which (to a near beginner) looks to have more features and looks cooler with the neck binding and block inlays in my opinion. Is the Jag a better guitar though?
I always prefer the Mustang over the jaguar just has more pick up and play appeal for me, both have plenty of tonal options the binding and inlays ain't a deal breaker for me
@@theguitarmanifesto Thanks! I'll bear that in mind.
The Guitar Manifesto
Are the frets better on the jaguar?
I love the first jam!
Glad you digged it 💯👌
@@theguitarmanifesto I just listened to it again! Is that your own song? I need to slow the video down so I can learn all the different parts. Do you still have this guitar? I’m interested in it, but I have never owned a guitar with a tremolo and I wonder about keeping it in tune.
Rob, thinking of buying another one of these, dunno why I sold it, but have you noticed that the recent pics of them on sweetwater look more of a daphne blue? It looks great, but wasn't sure if it was just an FSR for the American Market?
hey! great review, do you think this is worth it or would you recommend something else? it’ll be my 2nd guitar & i really love the candy red colorway but i’m scared of the sharp frets that you mentioned 😅
Comes highly recommended, the sharps frets are easily fixed with a fine sponge sanding block
@@theguitarmanifesto thank you so much!!
No worries at all enjoy 🤘🎸😎👌
Hey man I am totally a newbie when it comes to instruments at all. I have no knowledge of what the pieces are, what models guitars have. But I was thinking of saving up and buying a electric guitar since I have dreamed of having one. I looked at some and wondered if you can tell me which is best from my choices?
1. Classic vibe '60s mustang
2. Player mustang
3. Player telecaster
Any suggestions are great. I just personally dont like really hard rock type sounding guitars. I plan to learn more soft music. Thanks!
which is better? The cv or the vm with seymour duncan and rosewood fingerboard, do you think the fingerboard and pick ups can make a difference? Ty
I prefer the medium Jumbo Frets on the VM apart from that not a lot in it, I did a comparison video check it out
would you recommend this guitar for a more “nirvana” sound? ive been wanting to buy the kurt cobain jaguar but its way too expensive so im looking for something more affordable :)
I have 2 of these but from my point of view the duo sonic has its 100$ more but it’s a fender Mexico comes with a singe and a hum bucker will give you the nirvana tone and have a better resale blue
Are you going to review the Classic Vibe Jaguar too? Since it already has the fixed bridge and the bone nut I'm thinking of buying one. My only concern are the frets, since I never played a guitar with narrow tall frets and there are no stores selling that guitar where I live.
I won't be going out my way to buy one the narrow tall frets are a major put off for me
@@theguitarmanifesto I understand, maybe I will order One from thomann and send it back if I don't like It, i hope the frets wont be a problem cause I love the look of it. I could still buy a used VM but there aren't many for sale in Italy and they sell for like 50€ less than new. I would also have to buy the fixed bridge and it doesnt already have the bone nut, it wouldn't be worth it
My main concern would definitely be the frets the bone nut I personally think it's a nice addition but not essential. Bridge will definitely need replacing on a VM
I’ve seen pictures of this guitar and it doesn’t really look that sonic blue so I thought I’d ask what colour does the finish look like to you
Its a light pastel blue like the original Fender sonic blue
Damn straight
Hi there folks!
I'm planning to upgrate my Squier CV Mustang pickups.
Which ones would you recommed me?
Cheers
JS
Would you recommend this guitar or the player series Duo Sonic? Does the extra $200 price gap benefit the duo sonic or am I better off going with this Squier?
get the squier dude I've owned both I prefer the Mustang
The Guitar Manifesto based thanks a lot
I wish Squier made the jag-stang too :(
Hopefully one day
Useful thanks.
Glad it helped
Have you tried fender vintera 60 version with 7.25 radius and lower fret?
Is it better than a Vintage Modified? There will always be something that this version doesn’t have, and that’s Fiesta Red.
Personally I prefer the frets on the VM that's a deal breaker for me, things like the bone nut on the CV are easily added. Yes fiesta red is my favourite colour on these. The CVs are a direct replacement the VM which will be discontinued soon.
The Guitar Manifesto Id like to see you review the Jaguars next! Those and the 70s strat in the black look really cool. I guess I’ll have to try them for myself.
I'll no doubt check out the CV Jag at some point
Great keetar buddy!
She's a beaut 🎸👌
i bet it would look cool with a black pickgaurd
Yeah bro 🎸👌
Can anyone tell me if these pickup have less or more hum than the Tele single coils ?
Looks and sounds awesome! But those frets are a let down. Haven't tried one myself but heard a lot of bad things about them.
P.s. what is that song you're playing? It's fucking great!
Also how do you get that tone? It's sooo good
I have heard a lot of bad things aswell. The other Classic vibes MIC are super popular
It looks the part but the frets are really bad not for me.
Thanks bro one of my own tracks and kinda winged the solo before recording.
I using my boss me 70. Clean, overdrive, then a bit of chorus and delay on the solo.
@@theguitarmanifesto is there anywhere I can hear the whole song? It's great!
There's no finished product as of yet sorry 🤔
I used a different version of it about a year ago in a video with Samtube playing drums.
It's at the end 6.33
czcams.com/video/QcbM5LovN98/video.html
That thing sounds sweeeeeet
It's a beaut bro
So my mustang input jack is getting lose. Is that normal? Or should I get that checked up?
Yes if you're that unsure take it to a guitar tech
Thanks!
How good is this for lead guitar?
No complaints from me 🤘
My CV mustang is so noisy with hum, if gain and effects are added. It’s too noisy that sometimes the hum is even louder than the guitar. Is this normal? My CV jaguar with the same amp settings isn’t this noisy
Sounds like you may have a grounding issue
@@theguitarmanifesto can it be fixed with full copper shielding? When i touch the strings, the noise mostly goes away. But when i release, the noise just gets too loud. Touching the strings thru my chord hands don’t help either. My other hand should be resting on the bridge :(
No needs all the grounding points looked at could be a bad solder joint or something
@@theguitarmanifesto got it fixed with full shielding. Quiet as a pillow now. Thanks!
😤 why couldn't they have released these in the mid to late 90's 🤯
Powercaster??? Maybe in the future?
Couldn't get the body shape 😪 but I do like them a lot
does it look more blue irl because on camera it looks very white.
It's a very pale pastel blue
@@theguitarmanifesto oh okay cool thank you lol
How’s the action and tuning I’ve played the bullet but it was too cheap sounding for me
Any guitar I buy I set the action to my own style, tuning is solid 🎸👌
good job
Thanks Pete 👌🎸
Was that solo from any song in particular?
on the fly to one of my tracks
Is it a smart decision to put electrical tape on my strat bridge for more tuning stability?
Totally different setup bro 😎
How do you tighten the tremolo bar
There should be a little grub screw
@@theguitarmanifesto so that's what that's for. Ill try it when i get home. Anyway love this guitar. Went in the music store to buy strings but then i saw this and the guy let me play it for a few minutes then the rest was history lol. Love your vids btw. Thank you.
Soon as you play one you have to buy it :) glad you like the channel
amazing guitar
Apart from the frets 😂
And you didn't demonstrate the tremelo because?
I didn't demonstrate the vibrato because..... that's how I roll 😂
Because he hates you.
You had tunning problems with this guitar? Greetings from Chile
No none
Would you recomend me to change the bridge in this guitar? Or just keep with the store one?
No the stock bridge is fine 👍 just stop the bridge from floating like I did in this video, this sorts any tuning issue oh and FULLY stretch your strings
czcams.com/video/G6koD50pGX8/video.html
Thank u very much!
What scale were you using?
Not sure what you mean?
The Guitar Manifesto for the demo portion, you were playing some cool stuff, was it a particular scale you were playing?
Ah got ya sorry bro, mate I've no idea I just play by ear 😂🤪👌 glad you digged it 🤘🎸
Tall narrow frets are vintage style.
Yep but unfortunately not my deal
That intonation sounds a bit fishy. I like the sound of these mustangs but the fact that half the demos I've seen have sounded kinda out of tune really puts me off.
Must be your ears bud 🤣
It sounds great but the frets put me off.
Yeah them frets are bad
