I have the 35 and I worried initially about using it in certain places, but after a while, I stopped caring and just used and enjoyed it like any other bag. They are quite durable.

Same here. I got caught in the rain with my 35 Togo Birkin and at the time, didn’t even think about the fact that it was getting pretty rained on. There was and is no resulting damage whatsoever! They are indeed durable.

I love the story of how you got your Birkin, it was just meant to be yours Jennifer! I still say its because the SA must have looked into your eyes and could see who you were on the inside too and it was serendipity!! As a handbag lover I think Birkins and Kellys are beautiful and appreciate when I see someone caring one even though I do not ever see myself owning one. So happy you are enjoying yours so much and I would do exactly what you are doing in regards to using it. I love how the Togo leather wears and yours still looks perfect. I just bought my b30 and share the same sentiments. so far I haven't brought it to office with fear that colleagues will judge. my office drawer is not huge enough to store the bag upright. yeah I am extremely cautious about my b as it's quite precious.

I definitely understand. I am a purse addict and if I love a bag, I will buy it. I'm not a Birkin girl mainly because it is structured and I would have to admit also the price. I am more of a slouchy shoulder bag type girl! I have a definite weakness of Louis Vuitton purses. It's all in what we want to spend our money on. Since my love of purses goes back to grade school, I don't think I will ever tire of buying bags. Sometimes I do wonder where my obsession came from. But that's me! Enjoy your bag!

Totally agree that in the early years of birkin ownership you have to ask yourself questions before deciding where to take it! I'm on my third year and I still do that! The extra chair issue is REAL! I love the 30...just got my first one too. Less bumping of doors than the 35...I have really pretty decorative bag hooks that you just attach to the side of a table. No biggie. You can add an Hermès or other scarf across the top of your items to hide the insides. Also no biggie. Insure it.

I told the SA from the start that I was only interested in Noir 30 with palladium, or Etoupe 30 with palladium, and could I be put on a list? Out came the Noir 30 with palladium. I still can't even believe it!! Don't know what I would have actually done if they offered another color....I wouldn't have wanted another color but would have been afraid to turn it down for fear of never being offered the ones I really wanted.....Wow, now that I think of that, I am so happy I didn't have to go through that situation!! My husband got me the Chanel Archi Chic bag in the beige color and I have the hardest time wearing her! She's gorgeous and when I do I feel wonderful. She's a heavy beast however and her pale color gives me hives. I live in Minnesota and we're having the very snowiest winter and with the continuous snow, the car being full of salt every other day, and it banging on stuff I seriously die. So woman, I get it! You make me want to pack that thing right now and wear her, but then I remember the backseat of my car is full of stuff that needs to be in the garage because we're in the middle of a remodel (one entire level - the kitchen, dining area, and living room) of our new house. First of all, I am sorry that you have gotten comments on the money spent on your bags. I am a 49 year old in PA and I also treasure and covet designer bags. I had a Marc Jacobs multi-pocket hobo bag- an original one with the classic hardware snap pockets on the front and 2 sides. It had this amazing suede interior. It cost at the time $1200 and lasted about 10+ years with every day wear.
This line was retired and I think sold to a new "store" as MJ now seems to be a lower end quality of bag that I see out there. But I coveted that bag and ordered it straight from the store in Manhattan. I received so many compliments on it and I just recently donated it and actually wish I didn't.
That being said, an Hermes Birkin is a true treasure and your experience sounded amazing. Part of a bag's glory is the presentation and delivery.
I would love to see your closet!

Your video was hilarious! I have Birkin and Kelley bags and haven't given all that concern but I think because some of the things you were mentioning are concerns that first time buyers will experience especially if they don't usually spend a lot of money on bags, etc. and had to save a while to get a bag. I use my bags everywhere and always to restaurants (fine dining always) but you just need to be aware of where you can place your bag and I agree I would never put any bag on the floor but there are those great purse holder hooks that work really nicely. I have been caught in rain (not a down pour) and my bags have survived. While out with your bag you'd be surprised how many people know nothing about Hermes bags especially if you are always at a store like Target so you probably don't have to worry while there. Hopefully, as time goes on you'll be less paranoid and get to enjoy your bag. Now you need to get some Hermes scarves to dress up your neckline while using your Birkin. I'm re-viewing this video Jen- I just got my first Birkin 30 and I appreciate your great suggestions. This is a high price item and a special one as well. I take care of all my bags, not just the expensive ones and yes, I never put my bags on the floor. And although I see some people travelling with their Birkins, I still can't get over the time the FA just took my (other) Hermes handbag and put it in the overhead compartment squeezing it between the rest of the dirty luggage! Otherwise, I plan to use my B-30 everyday and just care for it like I do for my other handbags. Thanks so much!

Thank you! I wish I knew all the tricks and tips to authenticating a Birkin. I would need to defer to the experts on that! I know some of the things to look for, but it all changes depending on the year it was made. So far, I have only purchased Hermes from the boutique, but if I were to ever want to buy one pre-loved, I would have to get it professionally authenticated.

Tip for travel: a bag company in italy called "save my bag" make bags that's obviously is made for fitting over a birkin. Both the 30,35,or 25. Made of scuba textile and protect AND camouflage your birkin perfectly.
No,I'm not working for them in any form. Just stumbled upon them in a little store,and I was like,wait a second,isnt that the pefect size/style to hide a birkin in!? And yes,it is. Super light too. So now,no problem travelling on filthy planes with my birkin. Just saying.

I have a small LV collection and I was so terrified when I noticed the first wear and tear on my Neverfull GM DE (the leather trimming showed scratches from putting under airplane seats) and I sold it before it got worse . 🙁
I have a new one now in MM and try to use it as an everyday bag and just enjoy it like you do enjoy yours but I can‘t get over the fear of ruining it ! Your thoughts were so helpful and I will try to think more about where I go.

When my girls' favorite childhood stuffed animals got to looking very worn and torn, I told them that just showed how much they were loved. I am trying to take the same approach with my bags. The scratches and bumps just show the world how much I happily carried them throughout my life. :)

Yes, I am too. My Evelyne bag is in Clemence leather, and I am extra careful about water spots. I read every article I could find about Clemence leather and they all say it can "blister".

Ohh your bag is so nice!!! I would do the same for all my luxe bags! I usually bring foldable shopping bag to put it in when inside the plane and when in the hotel, i lock it inside my luggage. I trust my hard case luggage than the hotel safe so all valuables go in there.

You might consider buying TILEs for your luxury bags. I keep one inside the interior zip pocket of my bags. I.added my bags to my husbands TILE app, just in case my phone is in my bag when I lose it. Great video, thank you!

Your Birkin is so gorgeous! Not sure if you watch Real Housewives, but one of the girls knocked a glass of wine (from memory) in Kyle's Birkin while they were flying private. She probably has many other Birkins ..... perhaps not a big deal for her but can you imagine!!

People seem to fail to realize that it was made to be a luggage piece. That’s why it has a lock. Same with the speedy it was fashioned after the keep all and even the Alma was made from the Alma Voyage, a travel bag. Use it how you want and however it makes you happy. I would probably have an out of body experience if they offered me a Kelly or Birkin off the rip like that. That’s an insane story but proves that it can be done. I plan to use mine everywhere and every day and own it for decades and leave to my children when they’re old enough. Gorgeous bag. Love the history of it too which I feel most people forget. They only see a status symbol and a social media thing to show off and completely forget about what it truly means to be an Hermès client. xxxxo

Yes, I love the history, too! I did a video on the history of the Hermes Evelyne bag last year (which is even less known than the Birkin history). I have two daughters and only one Birkin....so to keep the family together after I pass I will just have to get another Birkin. Makes perfect, logical sense to me. Ha! xo

Yes, that is a concern. We have quite a security system at our home, involving alarmed doors and windows, many cameras and other devices. We also have celebrities who live in our neighborhood and there is a police officer patrolling constantly. But still, we are very careful to lock up our valuables while we are away.

Currently, I am not working outside the house...but I worked in an office environment for years while carrying luxury bags and I had a few moments of uncomfortable judgement. Bothered me at first, but anyone who knows me knows that bags are my "thing", and we all have a "thing". One lady who was the most critical came into work every day with a Starbucks and ate out at lunch each day, then ordered dinner to pick up and take home with her for her family after work ....almost every day. Add that up for awhile and she could easily be carrying a designer bag if she wanted to. Personally, I prefer to cook most of our meals and save the money for bags! So now, I just really don't worry about it. To each their own. :)

I absolutely love your Birkin! Black Togo with palladium hardware is a so stunning and practical. I would be the exact same way as you if I had a Birkin of my own. Were you wearing your Evelyn when you walked into Hermes and got offered your Birkin?

Thank you! I was in Hermes to pick up an Evelyne that I ordered. As I was paying for the Evelyne (my first Hermes bag), I asked the SA if I could be put on a list for a Birkin 30 in either Noir or Etoupe. I paid for the Evelyne, and he asked me to wait for a moment. He went in the back and came out with the Birkin. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that would happen. I thought it would be a 2 year wait...! So, I ended up getting my Birkin the very same day I got my first Hermes bag, the Evelyne.

I wouldn't dream of putting any bag of mine on the floor, regardless of the price.....yuck. Just a suggestion: what about a metal handbag holder which hooks onto the table? They may be slightly naff, but they work. I don't go anywhere without mine! Moreover, I always carry a plain (no logos or brand names) dust bag with me, so that I am able to disguise or protect it when need be. Temptation does not come into the equation then. I usually hang it inside a coat or jacket (inside the dust bag) in the wardrobe of hotels. I have not had any problems thus far. Again, it all depends on the individual, if you are comfortable doing this. However, taking it to the gym/exercise class etc., as you mention.....I totally take your point. I would not be happy doing that either. Thanks for your review, by the way.....very honest.....and amusing!

I have tried the bag clips or hangers for restaurant tables and the bag still sticks out in an awkward way. I have had servers knock into it...so that doesn't seem to work well for this style of bag. Great idea about the non logo dust bag. Thank you!
