    It just doesn't have any compelling software use cases IMO. For VR gaming (already a niche use case in and of itself), tracked controllers are mandatory and it just doesn't have them. A VR/AR Apple maps would have been cool, but no it's basically just the iPad app. That Netflix, CZcams, and Spotify all pulled their apps (which they did on purpose... they could have just let the iPad apps ride, but they specifically pulled them from the vision pro) makes the device dead in the water for many users. While all these apps can be accessed in a web browser, the browser experience is much worse than the native apps. The $3500 price tag for a device this incapable is more than a little bit absurd. In a world where I've already got an iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, and HomePod on my desk and in the bedroom, I don't understand why I would use an HMD to "augment" reality when the features it "augments" it with are the same features I already have in _actual_ reality.

      For me movies and CZcams thats really about it right now. The visual quality is better than the quest 3 and that makes me use it over my quest for content consumption. I see no reason people would want to subjugate themselves to working in the AVP other than to justify the price lol.

    • @Pacatacaedem
      @Pacatacaedem Před 2 měsíci +1

      Content consumption on the avp is way better then my quest, the biggest draw for me is I travel on long haul flights for work and being able to comfortably watch movies in private is amazing.
      With that said it's an incredibly expensive tech demo, it will develop into the future of vr but it will take time. The original iPhone is a good comparison, it launched with no app support unless you jailbroke it. The avp needs developers to make it a successful product, until then it will remain a tech demo.

    Comparing the Vision Pro to the quest 3 is unfair. I'd like to start out by saying I'm not a fan of Apple and I don't think you should buy a Vision Pro, but I do think the Vision Pro is a cool peace of hardware.
    the vision pro has 2x 3660×3200(11.7milion pixles per eye) oled displays vs the quest 3's 2064×2208 (4.5milion pixles per eye) LCD displays. that's like comparing an OLED tv to an LCD tv and saying the OLED is bad because it is expensive.
    your better compare it to the"Bigscreen Beyond" with 2560 x 2560 (6.5 million pixels per eye) it has OLED displays like the Vision Pro. it costs $1,000 and it's just the displays, no tracking or computing.
    The Vision Pro has a faster CPU and GPU more RAM and more storage. they are not even remotely comparable.
    if anything you could compare the Vision Pro to the Quest Pro, but the Vision Pro still has much better displays and better CPU GPU.
    also, the 1st iPhone wasn't very good at launch. it was pricy, it didn't support 3G, and the app store didn't come out for over a year. the app store was one of the things that made the iPhone so good.
    the 1st Apple watch was pricy and didn't always work the best. 1st gen stuff has growing pains that's just how it is.
    i think you guys are coming from a good pace but In the nicest way possible you do not know what you're talking about.

  • @h00sha
    @h00sha Před 2 měsíci +3

    I'm only commenting because you guys seem nice, but I respectfully disagree:
    1.) All the 'realists' are talking about vision pro like it's a how to manager your money 101 lesson. Of course, no one should be buying it if they can't afford it. But, if you can, is it worth the money? Yes!! You will never find this amount of tech in one device this size at that price for years to come.
    2.) What if it were the Meta Vision Pro? Honestly, they'd have to have a comparable ecosystem (hard and soft) for me to make that decision.
    3.) Is it strange that Apple launched a product line that hasn't instantly revolutionized consumer behaviour? Patience, young grasshoppers.
    Anyway, good video! Well thought out and funny in parts. Cheers :)

      The Apple Watch, once called a niche product, has been silently selling like hot cakes. It's now covered by several medical insurance providers and offered as a health and wellness benefit by employers. Likewise, the Vision Pro will get there, but it will take time. Rome wasn't built in a day.

    Good breakdown but Can’t agree with the take at all. I love my AVP.
    Apps: it’s literally not the end of the world to go on browser and open Gmail or Netflix. These talking points are as if you can’t access it at all. It’s literally 5 seconds difference. And Netflix hasn’t updated their app since 2016 since John Carmack left meta as CTO.
    Uniqueness: it’s a MacBook in headset form. You don’t buy a MacBook or iPhone or iPad now and experience anything unique or wow. Especially not to play games as a real gamer. Just small stuff here n there. You buy MacBooks to do work and enjoy the ecosystem integration. AVP is the same thing add in replacing your TV at home too.
    Is it expensive compared to Quest 3? Yes. Are they competitors? No. Overlap? Yes.
    Does it serve its purpose? Yes.
    Nothings wrong with AVP. It’s peoples expectations from hype not being met with reality.

    Was always a dumb idea. VR and AR remain niche as hell. I knew this would most likely fail because
    1) They can't even convince gamers to mass adopt it. And gaming is really the one area where you can most make an argument for its use. But just look at sales figures of the Meta Quest or the PSVR......they are not huge. Not at all. They too are niche products. So how were they ever going to convince the mainstream...the average person...to strap a device onto their heads to do regular stuff?
    2) The failure of 3D TVs. They failed because the vast majority of people simply were not willing to wear 3D glasses while watching TV at home. Now if most people wont wear those thin and light 3D glasses to watch TV at home.....what on earth makes Apple think that most people will be willing to wear a large pair of uncomfortable ski googles to watch tv and movies at home? And humans are social animals
    and 3) It is a solution to a problem that does not exist. No one using a screen in front of them thinks to themselves....."you know what would make this better?.....a large bulky device strapped to my head".

    “Apple‘s Biggest Flop” says those too young to remember Apple Newton 🙄

  • @cjeelde
    @cjeelde Před měsícem

    My number one reason why this is a failure/flop:
    This is not a solution for any so called "problem" that normal people got.
    We have to always look at tech as "problems" and "solutions".
    So for AVP, which problems could Apple identify?
    Just look at iTunes Music Store in 2003! When Steve Jobs announced it he talked about piracy and all the problems with that (if you put the legal things aside). And also that iTunes Music Store will solve everything!
    If people wanna pay for a product/service they must feel that this is a solution for a so called "problem".
    The number 1 problem is - not - the price. I would say it's the number 2 problem. Maybe number 3.
    Because, it this really is a solution for a so called "problem", people wanna buy it at almost any price depending on how good this solution is. And if they see Facebook's VR headset as a "solution", they can compare it with AVP and then think about 500 vs 3500 dollar and is AVP worth that extra money???

  • @mikaelbiilmann6826
    @mikaelbiilmann6826 Před měsícem

    Apple TV is kinda weird... I subscribe to it and Apple Music, but for a lot of movies, you have to pay again in order to watch them... and I find that very weird. I don't use either very much to almost never, so may consider un-subscribing from at least Apple TV. I do use Music a bit.

    I definitely don’t think this is a consumer headset. This was never made for your average consumer, just like the Apple Watch Ultra. Do most people use Apple pro products? I would say probably not.
    There are base model products in every category except for this one. My guess is that Apple wanted to see the most used features before putting more hours into building their consumer level product. That’s just my guess.
    I’ve been working in the XR industry for 6 years now so this is an extremely amazing product. I think it is revolutionary and will push the industry way further forward.
    Also I would say the avp’s real competitors are closer to the HoloLens and the Magic Leap 2. Avp is still more expensive but not nearly as bad when you compare to these.

    • @declan.johnson
      @declan.johnson Před 2 měsíci +1

      Also, Apple does revolutionize things, but I would say at the beginning they are always a little more niche. I only knew a few people that ever had the first iPhone, Apple Watch, or iPad. All of those seemed overkill at the beginning.

    • @declan.johnson
      @declan.johnson Před 2 měsíci +1

      To say we knew what we wanted phone smart phones when they came out is also not true. No one really knew what they wanted. It was a phone and iPod first. People wanted music and phone calls. What it is now is so different.
      And XR is still so undiscovered. It’s very short sided to say we just want it for gaming.

And if you are a fan of vr, you know these are two different products. It's not geared towards heavy gaming and you know this. This is the first edition. Meta have been in the game for years. Would I suggest that regular people go out and buy... Absolutely not. And apple doesn't expect that. This is for devs to build compelling experiences for it, and YOU GUYS know this. IT'S NOT EVEN FAIR TO COMPARE. But it just works. And you also know, what this thing is capable of... And it's coming. I love vr, and I'm not a gamer at all. Great, another dumb video about Apple Vision Pro failing. What a fricken laugh. As if a company with more money than God is gonna give up after 3 months.
    Here's a key point. When Apple only sold about a million iPhones in year one, that device was declared a failure. Now they sell 230 million per year. Arguably the best performing product in the world.
    Hows about Apple Watch. Remember bad year one, didn't light the world on fire at Christmas. Nobody wears watches anymore. Lots of dumb articles and videos about the Watch being a failure. Now they sell about 60 million of them. More watches than any company in the world.
    How about them darn AirPods. Dumb idea. Couldn't make enough in year one. Apple shouldn't have gotten rid of the 3.5mm sound port on phones. Another Apple failure, negative articles. Now they sell 80 to 100 million AirPods per year.
    How many times does Apple have to embarrass you on new product lines before you get a clue?
