What is this about anyway?
I've never been a fan of V-Day, which isn't that strange. Many see this as a made-up holiday to sell chocolates and flowers. But I also think love itself is a crock. So I use this month to completely crap on love in general, with this playlist serving as the soundtrack of February.
The playlist is an ever-evolving thing. The only songs that I can remember from the very first list are Love Stinks (which is the first track every year) and I Hate Everything About You. My 2021 version was my best yet, so many of those tracks have carried over into this year. I already have close to 25 songs before even starting these auditions. But there are no rules here. As long as the song depicts love as painful in any way, it has a shot. If I end up with 50 songs, that's cool.

This song has had a profound effect on me for 25 years or so. I am 38 but I always thought the "fading fucking reminder" was just a hard truth line. I think whenever you're with a partner for a long time you end up being 3 different versions of yourself. The happy self. The self knowing things are ending. And then the aftermath self. That line hurts just because its the aftermath of you looking back to the happy you. Gutwrenching writing by Reznor. Sorry for the philosophical comment. Lol. Awesome! NIN is one of my all time favs. This song got me through so much as a teen and continues to as an adult when i need it. Along with many other NIN songs or albums. The emotion and atmosphere in the music and vocals/lyrics is just next level with Trent Reznor.

Great song! Worth checking out the top result for "something I can never have (still)" it's an acoustic piano & guitar studio rendition that I'd argue is even better than than the original. Give it a go :)!
Just discovered your channel through your Type O vid. Loving these choices! I got into NIN after seeing Woodstock 94 on VHS at the time. I was 10 & I became OBSESSED with NIN. This song was used on the soundtrack of Natural Born Killers, which Trent put together. A lot of the songs on Pretty Hate Machine are bleak odes to lost love as well as BDSM themes. I think you should listen to it since you liked this one and also check out more Type O stuff. You'll be in for a treat. Can't wait for your final anti Valentine's playlist 🙂

Oh man oh man. I just love seeing a NIN reaction. Not too many out there aside from their one "Animal one", as you put it. Haha! This is DEFINITELY one of my go-to's. Here's a suggestion, although it's neither metal nor industrial, but have you considered Halsey's Easier Than Lying? Just in case, the music was written and produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (and Halsey's lyrics definitely fit the anti-Valentine bill).
The low piano octaves and the high repeating notes are such clever timing. Simple but perfect because n9 one would do it that way except a genius.

Great choice! I haven't heard that in a long time. I'm curious to what you might think of Type O Negative, if you haven't heard anything from them. There are a few songs that you might feel are inappropriate for your channel and/or you. There are some that have some lyrics that I don't think anyone would put in a song these days. Anyway, I found one that I think would be good for your anti-love playlist. Anesthesia from the Life Is Killing Me album from 2003. I hope it makes the cut. RIP Peter Steele💚

Okay I have to throw my hat in the ring for "Feathery Wings" by Voltaire, because that song just does not get enough attention for how wrenching it is.
Here's one completely out of left field: "Gates of the Country" by Black Lab for the AVD Playlist. Also "Crawl" or "Spleen" by Staind would be great choices!
Jaws by Sleep Token is a great track to check out.

There's so much more to them than the animal song (lol) and some of their radio hits. If you want to hear a more... visceral anti-love song than this from them, a bit heavier too, try Reptile.
