My Dad was on the Callaway when kamakazes struck. He was wounded 13 times and really never recovered emotionally after seeing his fellow crew afire. He never spoke about it.. He did become a lawyer and Judge and lived with terrible PTSD dying at 45 years old. God Bless these soldiers and sailors who so bravely fought for our country.

USCG did great service in WW2. They dont get half the credit they deserve. However The Marines that they saved thanked my father at his Legion Post thats all that matters.

Norm Gerhard II My grandfather was the commanding officer of an LST in Iwo Jima. He served alongside marines as well.
Also, you might want to know, just some fun coast guard history and something the general public will never acknowledge:
The original Navy SEAL's where really coastguard. Search the CIA.gov website. Use the terms (OSS and Coast Guard) for your search. It is to bad this is left out of history.

Excellent, we never really were fully recognized by the public for what the US Coast Guard did.

I just learned about this five minutes ago and that's why I'm watching this video lol. I always thought it would be cool to have a Navy cavalry or somthing for some reason hahaha. Now this totally makes sense to have a coastal mounted patrol. WHen I have my own country I'm having a Maritime Cavalry.

The USCG has never bern given the credit they deserved. My dad was located in the Pacific on Leyte..he left home when I was about a week old, returned when I was 4 years old..sadly we never connected..honestly, he was home on body, his mind was still on Leyte..so very sad..we never connected..ever
