I am in process of building a 3 storey residential building & contemplating building a 7 storey commercial building later on next to each other on same portion of clayish soil with some rocks & your videos are beneficial! I wish to also build a 7 storey commercial building next to a lake that is inundated with water 3/4 of the year & other traditional houses in the vicinity are on stilts in the village what is your recommendation in terms of foundation, pillars, pylons etc thank you.

Are slabs and beams usually poured monolithically? Does that mean that all steel in the suspended slab is in compression where you lap after l/4, because the beams are the tension members and are so deep? Example, if you have 16 in beam plus 6 in slab on top, a total of 22 inches cross section, the top 11 inches is all compression and bottom 11 must be all tension steel?
