    We used to do the Bahamian hamburger run, actually best seafood you ever had in your life. We probably have been to a dozen airports scattered around the islands in my dad's Mooney growing up. Those places felt like paradise after you land and you feel like your in a different world, in a different time, and you'd expect a pirate ship to be anchored in the lagoons. It steels your heart and makes you want to turn into a hermit crab

      I'm dating myself but we used to race our sailboat almost every weekend from Long Beach to Catalina, from April to October every year -- back when the Grumman Goose seaplanes were running. I never did get a chance to go to Catalina by seaplane; THAT would've been an adventure. But flying to AVX or even one of the helo excursions to Avalon is the next best thing.

Love the natural areas though.

    • @briane173
      @briane173 Před 11 měsíci

      @@TJKillip One of the first things I noticed going back to Catalina vicariously through Google Earth. Avalon isn't quite the cozy hamlet I knew in the 60s. I'm shocked that CIC allowed all those condos to be built above Descanso. Two Harbors I think is ok for a LITTLE development yet; but I think Avalon has reached its limit. The mooring field alone has doubled in size from when I used to sail there, which makes it pretty sketchy to moor there on a crowded weekend -- on anything larger than about 30 ft.
      Would love to sail back to Catalina at least a couple times; but no boat and I'm getting a little old for sailing -- not impossible but I'd have to bring a crew. I think taking Catalina Express would suck some of the fun out of it. Wouldn't mind one of the helo rides I guess. But ideally I'd like to sail there. When I was a teenager I'd race to Catalina almost every weekend from April to October. Some of the funnest times of my life.

Mine started in '97 attending our 1st Jazztrax concert and always enjoy going back- unfortunately have only been back 10 times since then but always enjoyable though we've heard from friends that Avalon is changing; demolishing cute gues lodging bungalow's, putting up fancy hotels, eateries to the point regular folks won't be able to afford to experience this wonderful island. Catalina Express now up to +- $77 one way- per person. Sailing over would be amazing. I always enjoyed parasailing and hoped to get back over this October but looks like next year for a Big BDay celebrations during the Jazz Festival Take care
