  • Here's my third video featuring the Behringer Model D. In this video I show some of the steps that I take to compose a synth-based song from scratch. The final song is at the end of the video and is also available to listen to here: / behringer-model-d-day-...

      I bought a Behriger U Phoria UMC204HD audio interface to replace my Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 .............................. not only was the Behringer 1/3 of the price of the NI KA 6, but the freaking sound is 10 times better ................. I still cant get my head around it, and more than a bit pissed off at NI for breaking down and it also crashed my PC quite often all the years I was using it. The Behringer has never caused any issues or crashes, and seriously the sound is way beyond my expectations of a £66.00 audio interface. ............... PS I,ll never buy NI stuff again, the support was really slow and pretty slack in their attitude.

      Behringer are a force to be reckoned with atm. Take the DeepMind 12. For the money, it is truly insane! Sure there are things I am not 100% keen on, but for the most part it has totally changed my sound.
      Now the Model D is even more crazy for the money. It wipes the floor with software vst synths and gives high priced hardware a beat down. For the money 💰 it’s INSANE

    Love these kinds of ‘one synth’ tracks, especially when the end result is as good as this. Great way to learn what your synth can actually accomplish.

    This is a very helpful video! Especially how you put all the tracks together. I too often try to record something right away in one or two takes because I'm not quite patient or friend of overdubbing. But you show in this video that it's worthwhile to have the patience to put together all these tracks (not so many) one after the other to achieve something really nice and musical. Thanks for that!

Great video and awesome sequence reminds of Tangerine Dream in the early 70's the outro really illustrates what this synth is about and how it really comes into it's own with some layering and effects.Thanks for sharing.

    My composer's inertia sometimes really bothers... Then i "forget" about a current track and start creating a new one. Then i repeat and back to the 1st. It can be made with more tracks... not two. I'm just worrying to not become a "over-procrastinating composer" that never completes his pieces :D
    In a search of a new sound i make my analog mono-synth and this helps to "forget" about tracks for sometime... after a period i return to music making and that breadboarding and soldering experience gives me some new streams.
    Also listening WIP tracks in extreme conditions can help... Walking at -15(C) with a mid. wind using a warm headphones but no gloves on hands can give you some other opinions about your old and new tracks. Such conditions can "wake up" some interesting idea sources in your head... It's important to not forget to write it down without a long delay :)

    The behringer model D is really sounding great. I've got mine since yesterday and I'm waiting anxiously the Neutron I ordered since 4 months ... ! I'm sure they will fit well. Comparing the BMD to my mother 32, the BMD has perhaps more a modular moog sound than the M32 certainly thanks to the 3 VCO instead of one, but my gosh, the filter of the behringer is so moogy ! It is astonishing.

    on "33" it's like "asking" for some kind of a synth "crash" effect. pitch down envelope with some FM, noise or something and enter some lite hats or drums (which can be done with D as well). I understand that it's a kind of a "Electronica" but it really lacks something :)
    Or a "Numan's style" vibrato solo entering (in the same "33" place).

    Hi Tim, great job and great synth..keep coming back to the video as I love your workflow. Do you think similar results could be achieved with iOS version of Cubase - Cubasis? I really like the way you record the sequence first and then adjust the knobs while looping the sequence in DAW until satisfied with the sound. Brilliant! I'd love to be able to do that on iPad as well..sorry, I've only had my first synth (Minilogue) and still learning. But wanting Behringer D now as well. Cheers!

    • @TimShoebridge
      @TimShoebridge  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi, Sorry for such a late reply. All you need is a MIDI connection to your PC/Mac. You can do this with a 5 pin MIDI DIN cable if your PC/Mac has such a socket or else just use a USB cable. The USB connector on the Model D is what they call "class compliant" so your PC should recognise the Model D as a MIDI instrument when you connect it up and automatically install any necessary drivers.

      the best sounding Model D plug in is "The Legend" from synapse audio. that comes very neaer to the analog model D. I have the Behringer Model D, the moog mother 32 and a OB-6.
      And I have many VI Minimoog plug ins. The Legend sound best !

    I see you have a Digitakt. How well does the Model D work with the Digitakt? Any problem with sequencing thru Midi? Thanks!

    • @TimShoebridge
      @TimShoebridge  Před 6 lety

      To be honest I have really centred my workflow around the PC and Cubase since buying the Digitakt, so I end up not using it for midi sequencing but purely as a drum machine / sampler. But I see no reason why it should not be fine working with the Model D, after all it's just needing to send note data, there are no control sequences / program changes / timecode issues to worry about.

    • @AndyVonal
      @AndyVonal Před 6 lety

      Israel, you won't easily be able to control the D from the Juno 60. Unless the Juno has a MIDI retrofit you'll need a MIDI keyboard or something with a CV/Gate out. Forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know.

    • @3zambrano
      @3zambrano Před 6 lety

      Andrew Brooks I just plan on connecting the Juno to a good ol’ audio interface and using the arpeggiator which would get clocked with the interface and DAW.

    • @3zambrano
      @3zambrano Před 6 lety

      Tim Shoebridge, did Cubase actually record those knob twitches that you made during the recording? Seriously considering getting Cubase right now.

    • @TimShoebridge
      @TimShoebridge  Před 6 lety

      Israel Zambrano No, the Model D does not transmit any midi when you play with its controls so there is no way for Cubase to record that data. When I am adjusting the filter for example all I am recording is the audio. There are analogue synths that transmit midi for control changes but they are digitally controlled (and usually expensive), the Model D is not one of them.
