  • Kitesurfing vs wing foiling 🤼‍♂️/ Is wing foiling hard to learn? 🏄/Should I try Kiteboarding or wing foiling?
The adventures of La Ventana wind sports continue… we got a killer deal on wing foil gear and decided to take up another wind sport - wing foiling! So, of course, we had to stick around La Ventana to test it out for a couple of weeks.
The past few weeks we took the time and spent the dollars to learn how to kiteboard. Kiteboarding or kitesurfing was extremely hard to learn and we progressed far enough to consider buying ourselves some equipment. So why the switch to wing foiling?
As it turns out, learning how to wing foil is hard in its own way, but offers some unique appeal for our upcoming travels. We’re hoping this could be our new sport on the road and that perhaps we can get good enough to do some cool videos on it.
Follow along as we continue the drive down south, all the way to Patagonia! We post a new video each week detailing our adventures.

I had proper lessons for 2 days, and I was able to get on foil my 2nd day, but only for 1 or 2 seconds. Day 3 was bad wind. Day 4, I rented a 130 Cabrinha board with a 2100scm foil, and a Gong 6m wing. The wind was a perfect 14 knots, and the bay I was in was all 4' deep so you don't get blown down wind when you fall. It all cam together and I was able to stay on foil for more than 100 yds at a time. I had good advice on foot position from my brother who had recently learned to foil. You have to learn to shift your hips forward as soon as you get on foil. Otherwise you lift too high and breach the foil. Hang in there, it will come together one day, then its like riding a bike.

I've definitely been getting better! Getting decent rides on both sides 🙌 so pretty happy about that. Not giving up but certainly the hardest sport I've ever tried! Love hate relationship 🤣

Stick with it big guy. I was 235 pounds with no wind sports background when I learned and it took me 2 months to get myself up on foil. The good news is that you will progress quickly afterwards. Now I’m 215 pounds and riding around in good sized swell and surf. And like the lady, it’s all I think about (still after 2 years).

I'm not quitting... this learning process has been a tough one though. I can't wait to ride some swell... 🏄

Really awesome! Btw being towed by a boat can really speed up the learning process on how to use the foil. I I've been learning kite foiling. Wing foiling is the next hobby. :)

Oh awesome, definitely going to give this a try. Kite foiling is what we want to learn next

in my oppinion wing foiling is much better on lakes (if you are not already experienced and can handle waves etc)

Welcome you your new addiction! I wish I had a forgiving place like that to learn. I don't wing, but I'm getting in to kite foiling. You can kite foil with less wind than a wing foil. I've gotten up on foil in ~8knots of wind with 7.5m hybrid. It take a bunch of effort.

Hahahahaha isn't that true! But, damn it's so difficult to learn 😮‍💨 Certainly one of the hardest sport I've ever tried

It's way easier to learn wing foiling by kite foil first in my opinion.

I respectfully disagree. Just based on my own experience.
