      I know! There's so many in the Richmond area. I still have tons I want to explore. I just wasn't impressed with the ones I found. I do love how they're all so different though.

      I've heard a few people say Hillbilly Elegy is good. I will give it a try one of these days. I don't read too much non-fiction.

    I read Every Note Played earlier this year. Fabulous. All of LIsa Genova's books are incredible. I also read Inside the O'Briens last year. All her books deal with an illness or disease - so interesting and well written. Ms Genova is herself a neuroscientist, so she KNOWS what she writes about.

      I love that she's a neuroscientist! I can't wait to read Every Note Played. I've also heard it's a real tear jerker. I can't wait!

      I don't mind a sad book. I love a book that can make me cry. (It's not too hard, I cry all the time!) haha. I am glad I found some LFLs too, but wish they had better choices! I have more to check out. I only went on the West side of town. Some other day I'll check out a chunk more! There are tons!

    One of these days I'm going to do the Book Swapathon, I promise!! The timing just isn't right for me this time either. I'm trying to finish up some big projects and we're right in the middle of adding onto our house!
    I love that this readathon has encouraged people to explore their Little Free Libraries. Sorry that your day was disappointing though. It's definitely hit and miss, but such a great program. I've been the steward for our downtown LFL for about four years. I am also planning to put one at our house too, but can't seem to make the time to get it done. You have sooo many in your area! I don't think we have that many in our whole county! LOL!

    • @BooksAndJams
      @BooksAndJams  Před 6 lety

      It's hard to pick a date for the readathon because there are just so many to choose from in the summer. We were a little late nailing things down this year so we didn't get it on the lists and on people's radar early enough for much planning. I had so much fun exploring LFLs around me. There are tons more too! I guess it's one of the perks of living in a bigger city. Bummer they didn't have more things I wanted though!

For the genre outside my comfort zone, Scfi Fahrenheit 45. Flip a coin for my TBR and it will be Glass Castle. My unhaul haven't done yet. So excited and hope I can read most of these.

    Lisa Genova books are powerful. Each deals with a different neurological disease and usually taken from the sufferer's viewpoint. She is a neuroscientist so is extremely knowledgeable in the field and she writes a great story. It's hard to put them down. Inside the O'Brien's is also an excellent story but be forewarned the language is atrocious in that one if you are sensitive to that. Too bad about the no luck in the Little Libraries.

    • @BooksAndJams

    • @BooksAndJams
      @BooksAndJams  Před 6 lety

      I'm reading Every Note right now and so far I really don't like the main characters, but am sure it will get better. At least I'm hopeful! I love that Lisa Genova is a neuroscientist and writes about brain diseases in her books, but in a way that's so relatable. I hope you find some LFLs near you! I meant to put the website in the description so people can check. I'll go do that now...

    I don't think we have the concept of Little Free Libraries in Lancashire! It might be an idea to read .'Wolf Hall' before 'Bring Up the Bodies' and, although they may not be for you right now, they are worth reading as Hilary Mantel has changed the face of historical fiction with them. There is also a very good BBC production-starring Mark Rylance and Claire Foy- which combines both books and is top notch. I think it-or at least parts of it-is still available to see on the internet. It created a massive stir in the UK!

    • @BooksAndJams

    Much Ado About Nothing is fun, enjoy! :-) Have you seen the Joss Whedon version? I read quite a few Shakespeare comedies (including MAAN) when I arrived early at my Jewelry and Metal Smithing class in college. Sorry you had such bad luck with your little libraries, they sound like so much fun! There's only one remotely close to me as far as I know (just looked it up).
    My Dad and sister both like Sourdough, btw and said it was similar in tone to Bellwether by Connie Willis, which I loved. I haven't read it yet, but I will eventually! I liked his other book fairly well.

    • @BooksAndJams
      @BooksAndJams  Před 6 lety

      I listened to Much Ado on my long drive on Sunday. It had a full cast and was so much fun! I'm not sure which version of adaptations I saw. After reading it I'm very interested in watching it again. I've heard mixed things about Sourdough, but it didn't get chosen for this week. I still plan on reading it before the end of the year. Hopefully I like it!

    • @jillc2700
      @jillc2700 Před 6 lety

      The Whedon movie of MAAN is in black and white set in modern era but with the same script, and nicely done if you're in the mood for something like that. :-) I'm on book two of Farseer-- Royal Assassin-- now (about a little over halfway through). Gotta say the mind meld during /all aspects of life unless blocked/ is a bit creepy. 0.o I also can't see this going anywhere good at the moment and I'm kind of dreading the ending.

Wednesday is my B.Day, so since my husband won't be home that day, we're going to celebrate it Tuesday. Than Wednesday thur Saturday, nothing is going on. Because hubby leaves Wednesday and won't get home until Sunday. So I should be able to get a lot of reading done on those days.

      @@BooksAndJams we're going to go out today at celebrate my Birthday. Because tomorrow my husband is going to go to my family's house and fix the garage for my brother. I say family house because my mom lives with one of my sisters (I have 6 sisters and of course me) and than my brother. My brother, and 2 of my sisters, plus 2 of my nieces and 1 of my niece and one of my nephew all live in that house. So that place is nuts, plus I forget how many animals they have. I believe 3 or 4 dogs, and 2 cats. My niece Nevaeh loves animals and I believe she found the 2 cats at different times and just brought them home. Families are crazy sometimes aren't they? But you have to love them!!!!!

I am also participating in the newts readathon which I am doing really bad at. And I am currently reading Vicious and I am on pg 80 or 90 in that one.
