Doom 64 is a weird yet great part of the Doom universe. The mother demon seems to be a similar descendant of the Icon of Sin that is treated as a powerful summoner type monster. The unmaker was like if hell had created weapons to use against the UAC. The 2016 infants in the tubes seem to hint that either the Mother Demon is in this universe and will appear in a future game (perhaps Doom Eternal) or that its a little easter egg to a old game like with the Soul Cube on the desk. I hope ID isnt putting these there for nostalgia. I hope that they place these things around to shiw that all the different games before all connect somehow to Doom 2016's lore. The unmaker would be great to see in Doom eternal as well.
So, in Doom 64, the Doomguy stayed in Hell to make sure no demons rise up and take over... in Doom 2016, the demons made a temple/building collapse onto the Doom marine (now feared as the "Doom Slayer") and entombed him, so he couldn't get out, so they COULD finally rise again... Is this canon and a continuous storyline? Seems like it to me! :D

Regardless, doom 16 is so cleverly branched, it could have taken place after d1e1, d2e3, n64 doom, or even after d3 dlcs, which was intentional, or it could even be looked at as a reboot. Id software did it because fans of doom are super divided about wether or not they consider doom 3 and doom 64 as cannon.
i spoke with syncerror and the id devs at quake discord and the Doomslayer is the same Doomguy that we know, and yeah quake champions confirms that, he ended at argent Ndur during his journey in hell after doom64, got betrayed by one of the knights who had his son turned into the new icon of sin, and went on his vendetta to wreck hell once and for all until they trapped him into that tomb

By far my favorite boss creature in the Doom franchise, a welcome change after fighting a wall texture for three games straight. I wish it got more attention, as even the Doom mods that include Doom 64 assets don't feature the Motherdemon.
There is actually a near perfect PC port of Doom 64 for the PC called Doom 64 EX, and actually requires a ROM dump of the original game. Essentially, this is what an official port of the game to PC would have looked like, complete with modern resolutions. Also, there is a more modernized version called Brutal Doom 64 which features enhanced graphics and maps. It also restores some of the cut content, like the Revenant and original version of the unmaker (while still retaining the one from the final version).
I meant that the Motherdemon doesn't really get used by modders outside of Doom 64 ports. I've played both the Doom Absolution total conversion for the Doomsday Engine, and Brutal Doom 64 for GZDoom.
I think the Mother Demon will almost certainly be the final boss in the next Doom game and here's why. The Doom games have a pattern of including a male boss that serves as the "muscle" and a female boss that serves as the "brain." In classic Doom and Doom 2016, those were the Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind, respectively. (And yes, according to official Doom 2016 lore, the Spiderdemon, a.k.a. Aranea Imperatrix, is canonically female.) In Doom Eternal, these roles were fulfilled by the Icon of Sin (the mindless muscle) and the Khan Maykr (the brains behind the invasion). Hell, the Spiderdemon and Khan Maykr even had visible brains and obvious names - "Mastermind" and "Maker." I think it then follows that the third entry in the new Doom series will include the Mother Demon. Doom 2016 was a loose remake of Doom 1, Doom Eternal a loose remake of Doom 2, and Doom 64 is generally considered to be the true Doom 3. It makes perfect sense that the trilogy will end with the Mother of all demons, the absolute apex of Hell, serving as the Slayer's ultimate foe. No doubt she'll have some tough high-ranking muscle demon to protect her, of course.
I like hearing you and others go so in-depth about DOOM lore. I really like to think the Doom Slayer is the same marine from I, II, and 64. I consider the DOOM 3 marine's battle to be set in a separate dimension. I believe the Slayer's ability to traverse worlds and time was added to him as a way to connect DOOM 3's seemingly unrelated plot; since 3 was set as if DOOM I & II never happened.

Some Doom 64 pc ports bring a "nightmare" version for the Cacodemon and the Spectre and Brutal Doom 64 brings the Hell Hound to the game. I find very interesting that female Archvile version and that dual cannon Cyberdemon, it is a really shame how a lot of monsters from the original Doom 2 were cut because the N64 storage capacity, just imagine the HUGE variety of demons to fight if Doom 64 wouldn't have had the limit problem.

I just thought of something. So if you've ever played DOOM Eternal, you probably know about the Khan Maykr and how her home world is Urdak and that the Khan Maykr is in fact a female. There is one part near the end of the level in Urdak where you have to swim around a giant floating alien-like body in the water. This "body" highly resembles the Mother Demon. Maybe that's why the Unmaykr (Unmaker) is in DOOM Eternal as well.

The physical appearance of the mother demon is unique Theory time: the Mother Demon was a member of the Archdemon species hinted at in Doom Eternal. She may have been a juvenile at the time but her powers far surpassed the usual riff raff that Hell had thrown at the Doom Guy and Earth itself

Freakin sweet video man! I always wanted to know the orgin behind her. Sadly, if you complete all the secret levels in DOOM64, grabbing all the artifacts or keys needed for the Unmakergun it shuts down the gates for her reinforcements, and you can melt her with that gun in like 30 seconds, underwhelming boss fight

(This theory was based on the similar attacks and body types of these enemies.) Then you have the brains from smallest to largest, Arachnotron, Spider mastermind. The 3rd species I don't really have a name for but I believe that the Mother Demon and the Archvile are related due to their healing abilities and their fire based attacks.
If anything I belive that you can set the mother of all demons in DOOM 2016 in one of the multiplayer maps. Big maggot looking thing with demon horns frozen with an alter in front of it.

I did miss the music, but that quiet, creepy ambience of melodies and sounds made Doom 64 wha it is, a terrifying chapter in the Doom franchise, you really did feel like you were surrounded by demons at every tell and really really felt like you were in Hell. Breakdown is one level in Doom 64 that creeps a lot of people out that ever played Doom 64, I thought it was pretty creepy, but Alter of Pain and Dark Cidel had me on edge and paranoid. When it comes to favorite Doom games, the original is my number one and Doom 64 is my number 2, and Doom 2016 is my 3rd. Doom 2 just never did it for me, it’s very fun, but it could get tidious and repetitive really fast. (That’s my opinion though.)

It can be interpreted as either resuming from any of the games or as a reboot. id has left it up to the player's imagination.

Gosh. I thought the final doom was it but as of now got one more battle. However...Iade the mother demon and the cyber demon fight each other. Amazing the Cyber Demon won.
The re-release of DOOM 64 has a prequel level to DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal that has you fight the mother demon again
