Roman Jakobson set the trend in modern linguistics followed by Ferdinand de Saussure and Julia Kristeva to inspire the literary theory of the innovative novel which expressed an awareness of language as a signifying system.

Saussure died in 1913, when Jakobson was 17 years old; Saussure did his linguistics between 1870 and 1910. Jakobson's linguistics started in 1926. I don't think Julia Kristeva has ever wanted to do what Americans consider linguistics.

I had read the "Oximoros of Fernando Pessoa" in the last week. Jakobson get break the words in small spices and give a signification for them.
