The actual problem w/ Son of Whyachi was a rule change to walkers that he forced into play, the "Shufflebot" rule which stopped robots like SoW from getting the weight bonus.
Man. Son of Whyachi is a shell of its former self, ever since it started getting its "improvements". The walker design with the spikes, instead of the hammers, was an almost flawless design and a lot more intimidating too.
Michael Tom It was better when it was a walker is because of what firestorm2900 said. He got a weight advantage from it being a "walker" but then they changed the rules so he lost the weight advantage.
Michael Tom Whyachi actually caused the rule changed. They use to have a 50% weight bonus just from being non-wheeled. They lowered the bonus, and stated that it's system of walking wasn't a walker.
it had everything to do with weight. the builders even stated after the match that they added weight here and there. thats why SOW killed itself because of the weight not being distributed evenly.
actually what happened was after season 3, battlebots changed the stomp bots rules and set the weight limit from 50 to 20% extra weight limit because SOW was to big of a power house and literally oblitereated every last opponent in its path. son of whyachi was forced to go super heavy weight, it fought swirlee and killed itself, then swirlee went on to lose to new cruelty. SOW wasn't the same force it was in the heavy weights without its extra weight.
It was allowed that extra weight because it was a walking bot at the time. Walkers were allowed that extra weight because they were notorious for being VERY slow. Son of Whyachi essentially defied that stereotype with its shuffle-feet system (to date, only two televised bots have ever used this: SoW and Robot Wars Extreme Warriors's DrillZilla), so the rules were changed.
SoW again employs its most dangerous asset: Dumbass opponents who go "Hey, maybe I should slowly edge up to the spinning hammers and let them whack my robot in the side."
Battlebots IS coming back... They have struck a deal with ESPN to do a limited series of fights. The competition will take place mid-November 2008. TV air dates have yet to be determined.
Maybe it is you who needs to watch the video again? If you look next to the decimated bot, you would see a torn out casing for the screws. So what does that imply?

Its a pusher bot like tornado with a scoop, well, that was the plan, works both ways, good pusher and asaw at the back, but like i said, 10% in, not enough, only the chassis and wheels done. just left there.

Looking at the blade's spinup time, it looks like it's only accelerating about half as fast as it should, making it highly vulnerable to rushing attacks before its blade has enough kinetic energy to do damage. The fact that its blade is spinning during the count seems to be of little consequence because of this. The winner should then be the one with the most traction. But none of this battle made sense...
@MegaModelMan No. The best you'll get was a 1 hr reality TV show on Discovery Science, but that wasn't done very well, had the presenter guy describing the fight as it was happening and getting in the way, so typical of TV execs, insulting our intellegence.

razor was actually in the first 2 battlebots events, as well as panic attack, and neither did that well. infact, i think warhead, killerhurtz, and maybe bigger brother are the only real semi-succesful brit bots to ever compete in battlebots. american rules are just far less restricting than brit rules, so its no surprise then they have a little trouble hanging. look up storm II videos and you'll see it lose in US competition too. tornado 2 got a very lucky win over megabyte in teh same comp.

I'm pretty sure SoW lost by backing into a hazard which caused its unbalance but if this is true, that sounds like the driver's fault for not thoroughly testing. Losing control can happen to any class, and it could've happened to SoW in the heavys. SoW made NO contact with Swirlee and therefore had no judgement on whether it could've actually had beaten the machine, but it likely would've.
I thought so too, they got whyachi's weakness... I love that robot!

The shell of Whyachi still exists, it was given to Team Toad after battlebots where it was and still is kept in storage.
SoW's no shell - still physically intact, though not exactly anywhere near running condition.
