There are many bad habits when it comes to growing and maintaining a healthy beard but there is one that I consider to be the worst and most damaging. That bad habit is the act of picking at your beard. I classify picking as when you take a single beard hair or group of hairs between your fingers and you pull on them. Not only does this weaken them but will lead to beard hairs being pulled out.
While you will lose beard hairs naturally over time you never want to be the cause of it. What makes the situation even worse is if you continue to pick at hairs in the same area which will lead to a bald spot. This is commonly seen on the neckline and cheekline of some beards. In this case, you'd have to shave a new line which will reduce your beard but erase your bald spot.
If however, you create a bald spot that's in the middle of your beard the only way to get rid of it is by shaving it off. That is the last place you want to put yourself in.
There are ways to avoid this kind of destructive activity. First and foremost, being aware that you pick at your beard is key and the first step in protecting your beard. Realizing when you pick your beard is also critical. I've found that there are 3 times you are most likely to pick at your beard:
1. Sitting at the computer whether at home or work.
2. While watching television.
3. While driving your car.
My tactic once I realize that I'm picking at my beard is to place my hand under my leg. If watching television I can place both hands under my legs or cross my arms and tuck my hands under my arms. It's that simple but you have to be aware that you are picking and pulling at your beard.
The last thing you want is for a bad habit to develop into a nervous habit. A nervous habit tends to me a bit more aggressive with a lack of awareness.
Stay aware, stop picking at your beard, and you'll do just fine :)
Was watching the first half of this video while pulling at my beard hairs.
+Dragonahcas Same dude D:
Its a curse
+Dragonahcas I found myself doing the same. it's a fun terrible habit.
+Dragonahcas So was I XD
Thug life
I'm stoned to shit and this is weirdly interesting to me. I don't even have a beard.
I'm bearded to shit and this is weirdly interesting to me. I don't even have a stone.
Ak Țhę Ļimęļorď ha ha brilliant!!
Ak Țhę Ļimęļorď update your photo then I'd believe you have a beard ;]
Robert Bell I would! But it's far from full yet ]:
Lol!
1:12 to skip to the "meat and potatoes".
Thnx Bud!
J.R. Bussard *spams **1:12* "meat and potatoes here meat and meat meat meat mememememememeat and potatoes here"
worst beard habit...chewing on the mustache...sometimes I dont even know I'm doing it. Guess thats a "hands free" bad habit. My mustache grows in very fast and very thick. If I dont trim it even with my lip line I find it can really get in the way when eating and stuff.
Scott P I'm basiclly the same, I've noticed I have chewed at one of the sides a bit too much and it's starting to get thinner than the other side... I've been stressed/depressed which is another thing that can make it worst
I do the same. I also touch/pull at my beard alot because of the itch and I do use beard oil.
@@England91 I literally do the same! I had to shave it all off
Dude, this is such a spot on video. I have this terrible habit.
I actually have the nervous disorder where you pick and pull out your hairs. It's called trichotillomania. Growing my beard out had always been a very very difficult thing for me to do, my brothers literally call me patches. It got so bad that I would leave for work with a good beginning stubble and come home with 3/4th of my beard missing. Worst part is like you said didn't even realize wad doing it. My girl friend tried to help by smacking my hand away or telling me to stop picking when she noticed it.
I didn't think was going to ever really be able to grow a full beard, that is till I started watching your videos. I found that taking care of my beard distracted me from picking at it. The wax and oil and scent made me always aware of my beard so I noticed when touched it.
I just wanted to say thanks, and my beard also thanks you.
and the good news is he is talking about tricktillomaniacle tendencies we all have. happy for you brother.
i have a similar disorder except i constantly pull on my penis. kind of like h.unter biden. i'm not sure what it is called!
Putting the hand under your leg might have seemed like an idiotic tip but after doing just that, i've had to resist the urge to pull my facial hair... thanks bud!
+Karanvir D Glad it helped!
BEARD
This is so spot on - a very real struggle for us folks with facial hair. Nice hat as well.
I find that the absolute best thing for me to stop myself from pulling out beard hairs is to oil my beard and wax my moustache. If my beard is oily, I don't want to get any of the oil on my hands to keep them clean.
This works for me as well, i don't like oily fingers.
But when I don't put it on I JUST CANT HELP IT :D
Any type of beard oil you recommend?
Same here. I used to push my soul patch into my mouth and sort of gnaw on it. Now I put a little wax on it after waxing my stash. I use oils and balm everywhere else and can’t stand touching that.
Can i use regular hair oil on my beard? Even if its very thin beard
Or get your hands dirty
just lost a beard to thinness and patchyness had been growing for 3 years and it was big but it was in such bad shape had to let it go looking forward to growin a new one with all the stuff ive learned over the last 3 years
I'm such a beard picker! And it's all the worse considering I don't even have much of a beard. One computer session can ruin it, and often has. Thanks for the tips!
Yea computer session is my danger zone as well! Stay the course!
Just had to trim down and shave part of the best beard I've had yet. So frustrating. I made it a month with no pulling but when it got to a certain length I didn't even notice half the time that I was pulling at it again.
One tip I can share that has helped in the past, and that I'll have to start doing again for about another month is to keep the beard trimmed down with a #1 clipper. Allow the hair to grow back everywhere and begin to shape it. For me, when the length is constantly at a #1, there's no urge to pull at it. It's when it gets longer that it becomes a problem.
They say to form any habit it takes at least 21 consecutive days. Here's to day 1 of no pulling.
Here's to a better beard in two months.
Thanks for the video!
Steven McCleary Best of luck Steven as you have a great approach!
Steven McCleary #1 or no guard here too, any longer and I can't help but pull. Lost some awesome beards the last few years, BUT staying at #1 or lower gives me a sexy beard and no pulling :D Number 1's unite lol
I'm a girl so this video isn't aimed at me, but I just love magnificent beards. Congratulations, Sir.
Also, your hands are beautiful. =)
Thank you Olivia :)
The Beard Baron You're very welcome =)
I've been struggling with this for 6 years REALLY badly and I've finally started to make progress this year. I am the most susceptible to this when I'm studying and driving, just like you mentioned. Always finding something to keep my hands busy and putting beard oil in my beard has helped me to avoid touching it.
I have struggled with this since I was in the 8th grade! (my first full beard). Every beard I've ever grown has ended up being picked to pieces and I've had to shave. My current beard is going on only three months and in the last couple days I've begun to pick at it incessantly. It seems the more I focus on not doing it the worse it gets. I've already had to raise my neckline once and think that tonight I will have to bring it up a bit more. This is the first I've ever heard of anyone else struggling with this issue! Usually when I mention it to people they think I need medication or counseling. I'm glad I found this vid and I will double my efforts to keep my hands off my beard. Thank You for posting!
Benjamin Cunningham Thanks for watching Benjamin! Hopefully you get it under control and your beard thrives!
Benjamin Cunningham I have the same problem since two years and now I've just realized that I'm not the only one who has this bad habbit. I'll take the advice of John and hopefully things will get better. Underneath my mustache I have a hole on each side. it's really embarrassing and force me to shave sometimes. Let's see how it's going to be in the few next months.
The condition is called trichotillomania. Apparently it is way more common than you think, and can apply to other patches of hair (head, eyebrows, etc.) than the beard. I tend to get bad cases of it when my anxiety sets in, but looking for any tips on how to stall it (beard oil, sitting on hands, fidget devices, etc.). So far it's been a challenge...
Oh, thank god. It's not just me. This has been the bane of my beard-growing (the nervous, habitual picking). I'm about six months in on this one, and have mostly been pretty good about it, but I'm hoping to go full Viking, so I'm planning on sending my wife this video to remind me every time she notices me start in from here on, and I'll definitely take the hand-sitting to heart.
EisernerBaer Glad you aware of it! It's really crucial to break this habit if you're going for a bigger beard.
I push my mustache hairs into my mouth and "trim" them. It was such a strong habit to stop doing while awake. But now I do it in my SLEEP!
Same goes for bitting my nails. I've quit doing it while awake but will occasionally do it while sleeping.
Oh no! Just keep trying to break the habit while awake. Also you might be doing it in your sleep because of stress
I am a big beard picker and it has forced me to shave to even out. It sucks so much. I pick at it but also sort of roll it between my fingers. Thank you so much. First time viewer and just from this video I am subscribing.
Wish I could grow a beard but I am to young but I have to say that you have the beard that I am aiming for
It's only a matter of time Ethan :)
Hey, I'm from the future do you got a beard now?
If you came from the future you should be the one who can say if he already grown his beard but nice try.
Your beard looks good
7 and a half minutes of enlightening truth and ways to solve it. Pure gold, this vid. Thumbs up.
Thanks for the comment Bugumir! All the best!
One video i would want to see is the history of your beard, Im 18 and i have studied my facial hair since i was 15 and my beard is still devoloping, my point is that it would be intresting if you showed old pictures of your facial hair and then even older pictures and then share stories on how you experiencent getting new beard hairs all that drizzel, because everybody develops in different rates so to hear others point of views is nice
That's a fantastic idea Tommy! I'll do an "about me" kind of video where I go over my ever expanding beard journey.
The Beard Baron Im glad i could provide you with ideas, good luck :)
Ive worn a full beard since I was 18 years old and now I'm 57. It has gone thru several changes, long, short, bushy, trimmed, etc. At this age and with it having turned grey, I like to sculpt it to my face line. Ive read comments here of some of the young cubs complaining about the beard not quite coming out. In my case, the beard didnt fully thicken until I was in my late 30s, particularly my stache. It is true that genetics play a role in all this. The phnomenon I am experiencing now is that it has grown even thicker. In fact body hair in general has thickened since hitting 50s. So my point is, hang in their cubbies, you may not have much now but as you age, it generally will fill in. I have begun using a beard balm and feel that it has conditioned and made my beard look luxurious and groomed.
As soon as I read "The Worst Beard Habit" in the title, I already knew what it was -- because I do it as a nervous habit. I've lost every single beard I've ever tried to grow due to picking holes in them. I pick at the left side of my chin/jawline almost exclusively. Once the hairs feel crinkly, split or otherwise rough, they're no longer "perfect" and I subconsciously try to get rid of them. But that only leads to damaging more hairs. The only thing I can do is trim the beard to "cleanse" it and try to stop, but it never works, and I always pick holes in it to the point where I have to shave it off and start over. And it sucks because I can grow a pretty decent full beard for a 19 year old. Only thing thats lighter is my mustache and its connectors, but those are making good progress and filling in more. I'm growing one right now and I almost lost it to a really bad night (I tend to pick more when I'm intoxicated of any form), but I managed to not pull any hairs out, and saved it by trimming and keeping it clean. So I feel hopeless, like I can't live up to my awesome bearded potential due to a stupid nervous habit I'll probably have forever. Honestly I thought I was the only one.
Don't worry my friend as a lot of us do it. I still do it but I'm much more aware of it and stop myself a lot sooner than I used to. It's a habit certainly worth breaking or at least reducing.
Wow! I never knew this was a thing!
My mum removed any desire I ever
had to touch or pick at my face when
I was very young and I'm 42 now and
still, aside from washing my face and
styling my beard NEVER pick or pull
at it!! Thanks mum!!
I'm pretty bad about this. I go looking for and "offending hair" and its off to the races.
Usually while I'm driving a long distance I find myself "feeling" around for what I think is a ingrown hair and yank it and discover that's not it and start feeling around again to be let down again, soon I have a hole in my beard, get disgusted, then shave it all off. Since I've been oiling my beard this discomfort and habit have all but disappeared 🧙♂️
I agre loui, SPOOOT ON, oils the lifeblood' always tryed tk out split ends n dry long unruly hairs
I didn't really do this until my beard got to around an inch in length. After a while it was almost like minor Trichotillomania, where whenever I felt a strange hair, I HAD to pull it out.
Luckily I didn't stick to one spot, so balding didn't occur. I also started oiling my beard daily as opposed to weekly so that there weren't any non of them felt scratchy or noticeably different.
For me that worked to stop the habit. Good to know, I wasn't aware it could actually cause spots.
Useless Noise Yea it seems as though we naturally search for the odd hairs to pull out. I notice when my beard is freshly oiled I'm less likely to touch it.
This should really be called "Stroking 101"
haha nice vid
+DarkInception Thanks for watching!
I am at ~six months or so on my beard. I think the summer is going to be a big challenge, because I like to garden, and it does get hot here. Wish me luck. Your beard is amazing, and I look forward to checking out your site.
WOW!!! I thought i was the only one who did this! ive always grown facial hair in some form. Side burns to mutton chops, goatees in a variety of shapes and sizes and all manner of moustaches. besides the fact im a change up kinda guy who likes to xperiment, the main reason i had to change styles was i have the picking habit. I find the odd really thick or curly hair and obsess on it. When those eventually fall out i hunt for the next most thick or curly untill i end up with little patches missing. It drives me nuts that i do it. Ive been growing a full beard on n off for 3 years now due to shaving to restart but this time im about 8 months in with the best effort ive made so far to minimise my picking. Im stoked with how my beard looks and it has been a hit with the ladies believe it or not. this vid has inspired me to try harder! thankyou brother for not only giving some great advice, but for reasuring me i dont have sort of one off problem. other dudes do it too. cheers again man and all the best!
Glad I could point you in the right direction and offer some inspiration!
Great advice; this is my second attempt at growing out my beard and I have a terrible habit of not only picking at certain area but actually rolling and twisting the hairs on my chin and even my sideburns. I watched the video on what to do with beard paralysis and both of these. I deodorant were really informative and helpful. Thank you.
RICHIE BLESS Glad these videos could help Richie!
Please don't rest your hand on your shifters guys, you will wear your forks and synchromesh gears.
Unless you drive automatics, in that case, go ahead ladies.
I dont have an updated photo, but i've grown my beard for about a year and a half and have a bad habit of tugging and twisting groups. Luckily i haven't had patches, but have pulled out a few hear and there.
This is a good tip! I'll try not to pick
I really enjoyed the phrase, "Beard growing career." I'm going to have to find some clever way of injecting it into a conversation
I creased xD
I haven't shaved my beard in over a year, but because I constantly stroke and pull out (lol) my beard hairs, it has not really gotten any longer. Thanks for the vid man, glad I searched my question about this almost unconscious habit and found this video. Cheers!
My husband pulls his beard hairs out and puts them on me.. It's drives me insane!
Oh, damn it. DAMN IT.
I am a mess of compulsive fiddling habits. Must not let this one stick.
Thanks for the advice!
I wish I had the genetics to grow a full beard :( I can grow a decent goatee and acceptable stashe (nothing like you though), but I have like only weak spread out hair on my sides and no sideburns either :( If only I just had the sideburns, they'd go well with my growing long hair.
I do keep mouth area growing though, cuz it distracts from my nose xD, but I envy your genes man :/ Oh and any thoughts on red beards? Im from scandinavia and even thought my hair is middleish blond, my eyebrows are dark, my beard is red
MaMastoast I think red beards are some of the most fantastic beards!
The Beard Baron I'm curious to know if you could give advice on fellow red bearded brethren. Im curious to know. Im trying to avoid the ole duck dynasty look lol.
Sir, I do this constantly and have indeed ruined a few beards from this. I created a half dollar sized patch on my jawline from this and set myself back months. This video definitely helped me be more aware of what im doing with my hands.
Awareness is always key Jay!
" 1) When you're sitting at your computer..."
*Everyone stops touching their beard.
Good advice, but just to add to something you said; if your car is a stick shift don't rest your hand on the shifter, maybe keep both on the wheel or somewhere but don't touch the shifter unless your are actually shifting or it will wear out the synchronizers.
i was hoping to find something like this, im getting reallyyyyy bad at this! I thought maybe i was just a weirdo for doing it lol, thanks so much man.
Those 3 reasons are so accurate. I'm guilty. :/
MORE VIDEOOOOOSSSSS!!!!! You are the best beardsman ever!! Love your vids. Keep em comin'.
More on the way HealthyJoeful!
Ive just found your channel im a black guy and have to say your rule also apply to black guys beardsm the only downside is like afro hair you have to comb out to add thickness and the handlebar is more a twisted and shape style other than that 100% on point.
Damn, it's almost impossible to watch this video and not to play with your beard:D
Right?!
Xd yesss
Great advice. Other huge traps.....as you have already mentioned......are shaving it off due to negative comments. Or, trimming it too much to the point where you may as well shave it off.
new subscriber, new to the beard community, love the channel sir
+Jaysus777Live Thank you for subscribing!
I had that habit a lot when I first starting growing, I would get bald patches and ingrown hairs. it looked terrible. I have gotten better and it's finally getting fuller and balanced.
Nice to see beards coming back. The "Vikings" from History Channel inspired me.
Great news bout the website! Look forward to ordering some stuf n hope u ship overseas?
Keep up the good beardwork & regards MJS
I've got you covered MJS!
thanks man my problem is i do it out of a nervous habit especially when my anxiety is up i try to quit but man its hard im glad that im not the only one that does this horrible thing
My beard is so amazing I pick at it with both hands while riding a motorcycle.
Orion Slaver king!
Orion Slaver lol
I had same problem ,i started driving motorcycle instead of just riding it so i prevented myself from further damaging my beard.
I developed a simple trick for myself. I only fondle my beard backhand. Hands go up to the beard automatically, but anytime you notice that your hand is up there, just switch to backhand. Additional advantage: It's so much softer that way as well.
Boruch Zimmerman That's a really good tip!
Hoolyyy shiiittt.. i thought it was just a bad habit I personally have.. I didn't know it was a common thing for people.. dammn..
i've had bold spots because of this shit before.. is sooo baddd.. specially if the spots are in your chin.. lol
imma try this to stop it..
were you able to fix those holes and get your beard grow back in those spots? ?
It can take months to start growing the hairs back. Some of them will never grow back though, especially if you've been pulling them for a long time.
I've made it a month! I've maintained facial hair for the past few years, but now I have the opportunity to let it go free range. The Beard Baron Love the bowler hat, by the way.
Great to hear Ziggy! Enjoy the journey!
I love to stoke on my beard :( too bad it is killing it. I love my beard and it loves me.
I am the worst at this, I used to pick all day, My beard is VERY VERY curly, And i enjoy finding the single hairs that have curled up very tight, And pulling at them. One thing ive started to do, Is use a bit of extra beard oil on my beard, I don't see how this would be damaging, Or at least not in comparison to my beard picking. The reason i do it, Is because i cant stand the feeling of my hands, Fingers in particular having that slimy/greasy/oily type feeling, That comes with picking at a well oil beard. It has helped ALOT. It seems to constantly remind myself, "Hey your finger is oily, You just picked your beard, don't do that again." And prevents it from becoming a "tick" or habit, As it had been for a long time. Thankfully my beard does not seem to have any "holes" But that may also be because as i said before, My beard is very VERY curly, So it goes every-which way even when combed, Therefore filling in any potential holes left behind from my picking habit.
Wow, that's a BEAUTIFUL beard.
:)
Thank you :)
VERY different. I always find it shocking when a bearded guy posts a clean shaven pic but I think at some point I'll definitely share a clean shaven picture.
Mans stopped picking. Stronger than most.
Great way to curb the picking, if you feel your self touching your beard grab a comb or brush. It will take the place of picking when you are sitting watching TV or computer. I find myself touching my beard so I grab the comb so I don't pick. But I don't think I've picked a hole in it yet. :)
Go by the Old Testament, dudes. It clearly says Thou shalt not pick on your beards!
Oh man, I thought I was alone in this. I would have thought I'd realized by now that there's nothing any one of us does exclusively. Anyway, I didn't realize this was such a common thing. I struggle with this and stash biting. I will work on my awareness. Thanks for the reassurance!
You're welcome Gizank, keep fighting the good fight!
You need a theme song!
I have been dealing with these bald spots and then having to shave now for years. It's inspirational to hear that I am not the only one. Going to really try hard starting NOW to stop doing this. Thanks for the video!
you're very informative bro
I haven't been actively growing a beard or even wanting to, as I prefer a few millimeters of stubble, but when/if my hair gets long enough to pick at, I do it. One night after not shaving for a few days, I wasn't even paying attention and I ended up having a bald spot in the same area you mentioned on the cheek. I thought, shoot, now I have to shave or I'll look ridiculous. So I shaved and as it grew back I realised that this patch wasn't coming back. Now, more than a year of having to be clean shaven later, the hair is beginning to come back thin and lightly coloured.
If you pick at your beard, find a way to stop ASAP. It's not always as simple as shaving and restarting your beard.
That is an amazing beard!
Thanks man!
You're welcome :)
I have pulled a lot of hairs from my beard. Thank you for the video, i am going to try not to pull my beard hair.
did the hairs grow back
I twist my beard hairs
+iFornix I almost have to... Left to its own, one side of my mustache wants to curl up, the other (right) wants to curl down. One side of me belongs in a barbershop quartet ... the other side is the Frito Bandito.... What do you expect from a Gemini, right??! ;)
I have trichtillomania and it is the main thing that has prevented me from growing a long beard. Eventually I will pull so much out that i get a bald spot and have to shave to start all over. My brows and lashes already had enough damage, I don't want my beard to be permanently screwed.
this guys has a good manly beard , but very girly hands lol
I always pull at the little beard I do have because I thought it would make it grow faster. This video explains why I have a close to bald spot in the middle of my chin. Thank you for informing us (the viewers) of this habit.
tevin persinger Thanks for watching Tevin!
This is fucked, literally just realized I did this only by watching this video lol
I'm not sure why but i always kind of thought i was the only one with this horrible habit, i do that pulling hair till i get a bald spot in my beard, as a matter of fact im going thru a lil situation like that and been in it several occasions, but i pretend to always have a squeeze ball to avoid that habit!!
I want to see your hair haha, can you take off your hat for a second in the next video?
Haha, most definitely!
I'm glad I never had the issue of picking at my beard. I did used to stroke the shit out of it though, not so much lately though.
I'm glad I found this video, I have that bad habit of picking beard hairs, I actually started out as doing it on purpose for whatever reason, it's around my lower lip and chin area, i'd pull my lower lip in an kinda tuck it as far down my gum line as I can an sorta pluck beard hairs as far down as i could get using my teeth, and from then it became a very bad habit, and now i'm doing it without even knowing an realizing that i'm doing it.
When I was growing my beard (R.I.P. my beard) I tried not to do this not necessarily because I was worried about losing hairs but because my hairs were very straight and when I would pull on them they would spring back and curl up like a spring. I always tried to maintain a thick, full, soft and straight beard. Some guys just let it go and it looks like pubic hair on their face. I'm not a fan of that look.
Pulling out hairs (to the point where your doing it without wanting to) is called Trichotillomania. Sitting on your hand is a good tip and your totally right, Office, Car and TV are the big ones because your only partially aware of what lefty is doing and you need to have it available but it's usually not fully engaged in something (such as typing). If you (or anyone else) has any other tips apart from "try and stop" it would be great to hear of them :)
I've had a full beard for the majority of the past 10 years. It wasn't until last year that I started using beard oil and conditioner. I noticed that using these products made me not want to touch my beard as much. I suppose they make it less itchy, not drawing my hand to my beard, but also I think consciously don't want to get it on my fingers. I never realized how much i touched my beard until I started using that stuff.
I think the worst thing that happens to me when i pick my beard is that when am talking to anybody then i end up pulling out a beard infront of the person am talking to and that person becomes somehow disgusted and it becomes very embarassing
Yea that's never a good look!
Never really picked my beard. However I do twirl the bit just under my bottom lip & chew on it.
yeah, that's basically what trichotillomania is. I have that but I pick my eyebrows, although i don't really have the urge to pick my beard
This is a huge issue I'm struggling with. I have decided to keep growing even when I have some holes in my beard. I hope to grow beard over those spots.
I'm a puller and I pick at the area to the point of baldness. That is why I can't grow one long at all. I pull just under my nose. I do this habit at the computer.
I'm the same way at the computer and really have to watch myself!
Holy god, thank you so much! I kept finding one side of my moustache growing weaker than the other, and now I know it's because I used to pick at that side :/
Hopefully I'll start to see some improvement, cheers my bearded brother!
Thanks for watching James and that you were able to figure out why you had a weaker side!
I constantly pull hairs out, specially under my lips. Because of that I get ingrown hairs that create pimples, and I end up removing those small hairs with tweezers, but the result is that it happens again a couple days later. A never ending vicious circle.
My habit is grabbing a soul patch hair with my tongue and into my mouth where I enjoy tugging and lightly chewing it standby strand.. usually after a few days that hair tends to just pull out with ease when I go to chew it.. gotta stop lol
I'm new to growing longer beards and I've noticed I do this CONSTANTLY. My girlfriend now has a habit of just pulling my hand away when I do it (doesn't say anything or do anything else, just pulls it down) but when she isn't around I'm all over it. Trying to stop touching altogether. It has helped me cut down on biting my nails though :)
Im currently in my 4th month and ive noticed that the worse shape my beard is in (grooming shape) the more i touch it. now that ive figured out how to get my beard in proper shape i dont nearly touch it as much as when it was all wavy and out of shape.
so glad I saw this. I pull at my beard some, and now I know what to do.
Ah, I thought I was the only one that did this! Going on 3 months and I'm trying to develop the right habits. I appreciate the video!
I almost skipped this video, but I'm glad I didn't. Although I've had beards most my life this is only my 2nd ~6 monther and I found that I definitely do this.. not necessarily the same spot and I have never made a hole.. but because of this video hopefully I never will because now I will start putting a stop to that.
Good thing you didn't skip the video! Best of luck on your 6 monther!
Wow man. Exact same problem I've been facing for past couple years. But no beard holes yet. Thank God. But I did lose a lot of hair by pulling on them. So I do exactly what you suggested. Putting them under the leg and it has helped but not that much. One thing I'm thinking of trying is buying driving gloves and that should take care of driving situation. I have noticed that if you wear gloves of any kind, you don't get that feeling of pulling on them at all.
jonalien Sometimes I'll use a coin if I'm sitting at the computer and keep it in my non-mouse hand which seems to work pretty well. The car can definitely be tricky though, I like your idea of driving gloves!
I do have tendency of pulling the same hairs in a certain area. I will stop with it!
Thanks!
For me, it helped having a logbook where I write down every single time I pull a beard hair. As I see myself writing this down I get so disgusted with having a patchy beard so I am usually down to one-per day as of now. My goal is of course zero per day.
I've noticed that for about a week ive been picking on mustache handles....it started because I wanted to look like captain hook, but after a week I've noticed it has become an unconscious thing to curl my stache...thanks for the pointers!! I really need to drop that habit!!
I too had to restart my beard because of pulling on it under my chin.. Also I pick at my mustache area as well and had to shave it off a few times as well... Such a bad habit..
did it grow back
PLEASE BEARD BARON POST A VIDEO WITH THE TOP 10 BAD HABITS TO AVOID........MY RESPECTS
I have had this habit over the years and have had to shave multiple times even with just a gotee. I finally have a beard similar to yours and have had a hard time not picking even though I love the way it finally looks. Now roughly 15 years of picking and regrowing or keeping well trimmed, I seem to have more gray in my beard in the areas I have done this. I'm 41 and my 81 year old father gives me a hard time for the gray.
I struggle a lot with that. No holes in the beard yet. But always reminding myself to stop. Not easy!
I've been letting it grow for about 2 months now it's nothing special really cuz my mustache needs to get thicker and connect (fully) the rest of the beard but it gets annoying seeing how thick it is everywhere else except my upper lip. I'm almost 21 so I know I have a lot more time letting my beard mature but it's disheartening knowing I'm SO close! People are starting to get used to it tho and my friends call it a beard but in my mind it's still scruff until it's complete. No questions just venting to other beard enthusiasts :) great vids and GREAT BEARD sir!
NachYoCheesy1494 You're well on your way my friend!
