Hey everyone!
I know there are a whole bunch of tutorials for this tune out there but everyone plays the Classics a little different. Here is my take on one of the greatest Rock n Roll tunes of all time.
I am aiming to make one video a week this year! I will probably follow all of my selected covers with tutorials. They seems to go hand in hand pretty well!
I would also like to thank the AWESOME people at Zoom & Manfrotto for sending me some new stands!

9:03 if you just wanna learn the solo.
Love how you do Zeppelin. And extra respect for the open D detail!
Gretchen Menn Ahhhh thanks so much Gretchen. Nice to see you over here.... you defo don’t need my advice on this tune though, you got it! 🤣🔥👌🏻
Maybe we should collab on something?
Oh yeah! He has the Zep down really well
WOW! Serious compliment from a known master!
Doesn't get any better than that! Sorry,.. Gretchen Fan! 😄
Jimmy played a few variations of that solo live, yet his studio version is just magical. I swear, that solo was perhaps- or still remains (The) most electrifying badd-ass sequence of riffs known to man.
This has been the best lesson I have ever seen.
I’ve heard this song over 1000 times but never noticed the 12th to the 10th on the slide until you pointed it out. I can’t unhear it now. Amazing job!
Best guitar tutorial of this song. This is the exact way how it must be played...At first sight that riff looks so simple but has some subtlelities in it and not everybody can make it sounds like you do.
You've really got the groove ! 👍👍
Thanks so much Richard, wicked comment. Glad you liked the video. 👌🏻
Easily the quickest I've ever learned a riff in my few months of seriously learning. This is a proper lesson! Great job!
Amazing! Thanks!
Agreed. Best lesson on this that I've found anywhere. Thank you
The best, most concise lesson of this song I've seen. Great job. I really like how you point out the finer details of the song.
Thanks!
Hey Sped, there's a ton of tuts for this song and this is the best one so far. Thanks a million.
Just stumbled on this channel. CZcams recommendations finally getting it right. Possibly one of the best lessons on CZcams for this mythical riff & song. Added kudos for the open D which makes the riff so drony & deep. Well done mate. Respect from Australia.🇦🇺
Welcome aboard! Thanks for the compliment. Hello all the way to Ozzzz!
You seriously have the best Whole Lotta Zep tutorials on CZcams my man 🤟
Awesome! 🤙
Thanks for this lesson, you're such a great player and teacher!
The world and his dog know how to play some of this song and never get any further, It has been an absolute pleasure watching you explain the intricacies of the real song and I'm know looking forward to learning it properly. Thank you my friend. God bless.
Steve Davis You absolute legend. You’re welcome!

this was great after playing 40 years I never sat down to figure out solo. because i never had to do it live before Now every time I hear the song I can scratch that one off my list of solos to learn ! With your help was a snap.I did last part of solo i found it easier to use pinky but i think thats a preference thing. Your really good at braking this stuff down slow to see and hear. ill be back on your site . thanks man
Thanks so much for learning me the solo in this. You most definitely Sped my progress Sped. You are so appreciated, thank you! 🌌🌅🌠👌🏻😉
My pleasure! So happy to help.
well done!...u have a great teaching style...you keep the song in context...your teaching style reminds me of the late great Michael Caswell.
Not only is the most accurate and detailed lesson but…man …that tone is spot on!! Awesome! Thank you!
You’re welcome. Thanks!
best zeppeling lesson in the whole web ..very patient and very profetional . i learned the wholw song in 10 min . thank you !

When I want to learn it the right way , I come to ur channel! Thank you !
I love this!
KILLER..! Thanks for posting.
Bruh! Another great lesson. I've known this main riff for ages but those little things you explained made it really settle. I also never tried to learn the solo but you broke it down nicely and I nailed it (for me) within 15 minutes of following your lead. Playing this one my new Standard 60's feels like I'm 14 years old again. Thanks!
John P. Argueta Love this. You’re absolutely welcome. So glad it took you back to your teens. Have fun with it man! 🖤
Easily the best! Awesome lesson!
Another great lesson That corrected my way of playing it slightly wrong for years! This is very well explained with attention to the little details like small bends , muting and playing it tight . Also the relaxed way of explaining and repeating the licks is a joy to listen to! Should have discovered Sped his Chanel sooner! Anyway I subscribed now and enjoy every minute of it! Great musician and Thanks for sharing your skills
Amazing Johan, thanks so much for the feedback! So glad you’re liking the lessons; I keep listening to people and slightly evolving them over time. Thanks for noticing all the little extras I chuck in and mentioning. 🤘🏻🤩
That's a beautiful Gibbo. Loving your vids, man.
Slash Frehley Thanks man that's awesome!
SPEDTACULAR! Great lesson, as always. You da man!
Thank you JJ. SS 🤘🏻
Hey man, i just want to say thank you for this, and I hope you'll make more lessons in the near future. Take care!
Thanks! Just put up a few recently.
Awesome lesson!!

You're very welcome!
Another Awesome Spedsplanation
😂😂 brilliant thanks.
Great lesson!
Sped my man you are incredible thanks so much for sharing your time and teaching these Zeppelin lessons amazing!! Keep shredding my friend 🔥😎💪🔥😎
My pleasure!! Same to you too!
THAT FKING OPEN D. THAT is what I have been searching for. THANK YOU!!!!
wesmatron Haha that’s amazing! Glad you found it!
You have no idea, man. For years I've been playing exactly what I saw other people play, but it sounded 'flat' and lifeless compared to when you add that D string and the bend. It jumps into life. Again, my heartfelt thanks
Love it, tone is great!
Thanks a lot!
There must be literally dozens of videos on Jimmy Page and Zep tunes but after you do one I'm really not sure as to how the others get any sort of traffic. Another masterpiece Sped, thanks so much. 🤙
You’re welcome Thomas. So glad you got so much out of this lesson. 🙏🏻✨ Thanks for the continued compliments.
There are wonderful guitarists out there but, they fail miserably at teaching,,, YOU sir, you are the full package !! Thank you very much for taking your time to teach !! It is greatly appreciated ,,,subbing after the comment !
IncendiaDivinus Thanks very much. I’m gonna give this comment a whole lotta love! 🤘🏻🤩
Great tutorial!
the best Whole Lotta Love lesson on CZcams. I will keep on practicing thanks
Hey! I actually say “note D” to highlight the fact that the 5th fret of the A is the same note as an open D. 🤘🏻💀
Sped Spedding yeah I put some headphones on and could hear you better that why i edited my comment but your like lightning and replying. Not been playing long so Many thanks.
Amazing. Thanks for the wicked comment! Glad you enjoyed it. Even happier that you’re learning with me! 🤘🏻😎
Yes!!! Your Black Dog lesson has changed my life. My neighbor is going mad with jealousy.😷

Thanks again very good lesson !
Glad you liked it!
Very well done!
Good job 👍
this is brilliant instructional very clear im only a beginner but i can follow within reason ..excellent job.
So cool Stephen, thanks for learning with me. One of my all time favourites as well.
Excellent Lesson and a Beautiful Les Paul Gold Top, Still on my Wish List/
Dude, you know your rhythms, that's for sure. And some people (lookin at you, soloists) think rhythm is a for sure thing (and some are) but there are so many nuances in great guitarists styles. Great job here, bud.
I appreciate that! Thank you.
Great video - I've got a quick tip, it's easier to play the two strings (A on the 5th and open D) with an upstroke - that's actually how Jimi plays it.
Also, the main riff is played with both pickups engaged (middle position)
My God.. wild spirit! I think Pagey is even more magnificent than I imagined. U as well Sped!
Thank you Deb! The WLL solo for me is Jimmy's best moment. I feel like it's the definition of him. Has all of his favourite ingredients in it. 🔥
its all been said in the comments before mine, the #1 best lesson on youtube......thanks !!!!!
TonyD61 That’s awesome thanks so much! Need to do more lessons! 🤘🏻😎
Great Lesson!!!
BRUCE WELTY-JOHNSON Thanks man!
Nice lesson. Thanks
Pleasure!
17:03 Holy crap you nail this. First time I have seen it done.
Bravo Mr. Sled.
That’s my Christmas name sorted! Santa! 😂
Hey Sped thanks for all the great videos. I've only been playing for a handful of years and been taking lessons for about two-and-a-half. I'm a really big Led Zeppelin fan and really liked all of your Zeppelin videos. It would be great if you could talk a little bit more about the theory behind some of Jimmie's playing. I'm working out a lot of the songs I notice he switches from major to minor in a lot of the same solos as well as throwing in some dominant stuff. It would be helpful for you to share some of your knowledge behind the construction of the solo along with playing them.
Thanks again amigo
Spot on tone for the Studio LZ2 tone !! Really Good . Live was quite different post 1972 with the Plexi Marshall /KT88 loaded Amp. Guitar loaded with weaker T Top Bridge/ Overwound Neck PAF. (very unconventional). Live Middle pickup Position used for Whole Lotta Love riff. The Fuzz sound was gone post 1972
Yes, the open and fretted d string together! Pet hate of mine when it's missed :)
Gracias!!!! Go ahead. You are great.
Very good. More Zep
Thanks!
Hey thanks so much for this! So glad you enjoyed the lesson.
Super excellent....
Excellent
Thanks Ray!
Excellent ĺesson🎸🎸🎵🎵 thànk you
My pleasure!
Awesomme tone mate and enjoying the vids, what pick ups and gear are you using do you mind me asking
Muy didáctico excelente
Awsome...'cause i can also download it n watch it over n over....yeaaa u know.... my finger was slowly learn hghghg...
Thanks
No problem
Great tutorial. How about an additional video on how Jimmy plays the extra riff on the live version on “Songs Remain the Same” soundtrack.
THAT guitar sounds heavenly. What gear has it sounding so good ?? Thanks for killer vids
very good
Xableids Thanks!
Best lesson on WLL that I have seen, thank you! I particularly like your counting, to get the rhythm correct.
If I may request I would like a similar lesson on Sweet Emotion with Aerosmith. I have problems with timing/rhythm on the part between the main riff where you “climb” up the neck (if you get my explanation).
Thanks man! I will definitely bare it in mind. Think Eat The Rich may be on the cards sooner rather than later! ;)
I remember reading that Jimmy actually played the open D on the note in the riff, making it a chord, with the 1/4 bend up on the D 5th fret A string, making it sound a little out of phase.
hey sped could you please do a lesson on commutation breakdown please thank you
He's the first to teach the opening riff correctly, slightly bending the A string upward...well done!
Thanks Brian, I had a fair old go didn't I? Haha
@@SpedSpedding Yes! I first learned of Page's trick from a Joe Walsh video on intonation, where he mentioned it, then demonstrated it. That was a couple years ago, but have never seen anyone do it on a tutorial until you did it. Thank you!
Trying out for a band next week and they have this and Evil Ways” on their list; thanks for both lessons dude!
You’re totally welcome and good luck!
I got the “Gig” Dude!!
Made some noise at Fret 1 ,like you said with some effects and I’m In 🎸 ☺️ ( and I did it with only my 3 lil fingers; missing the tip of my ring finger 😌)
I'm learning all your tutorials on Zeppelin songs. Your awesome. But, I'm not good at finding certain tones. Wish you could do tutorials on tone qualities.
Sped, you may very well be the best guitar instructor out there. It's so easy to follow your lessons. Thank you so much! What amp/gear are you running for that great sound?
Wow, thanks! That’s really nice. Tbh I can’t really remember at the time of this. Could have been my Laney, Sheriff or even a plug-in. 🤷🏻♂️
Sped, excellent set up !!! you definitely have the gift of teaching !! i like how we can see the whole guitar at a reasonable distance... your by far the best in my book !!! I've learned so much from your videos !! Thanks and keep up the good work !! ✌🎸
Hey Smitty! I hope it's cool to call you that? That is such a wicked comment thank you! I am so glad you have learned so much with my videos! More to come! Anything you would like to learn?
Sped Spedding yes sir you can !! Smith is my last name, so my friends call me that 👍 A couple months back I was trying to learn the Rain Song. That's such a cool song..but had trouble seeing the position on the neck in the video. And they never went over the tuning which took a bit to figure out. If you could work that up I know it would be awesome. Cheers my friend ✌
Hey Sped, that's pretty intense of a song for doing a video lesson. How about Free "Can't find my way home" .. Thanks man ✌
Finally somone who teaches the riff in alternate picking, which is how he did it most of the time. Jimmy wasn`t James Hetfield. ;-)
spent most of the day on your lesson.....been in a kind of zep rabbit hole. i "should" be working on jazz tunes but i 'wanna' be working on zep! cheers mate. your interpretations are spot on. curious what your signal chain is on this vid?
Can you please do a lesson on sunset by the midnight. You will love the song and enjoy breaking it down. I promise.
What amp, and what pedals to get that sound. Thank You
This is by far the most accurate lesson about this song I've come across.Had to hit Subscribe Button,Never seen anything From you B4, Like to know What ur using to achieve This sound? Cheer's
Warwick Smiley Thanks. So glad you found it useful. I think I was just plugged into BIAS FX here.
Spot on😅
Glad you think so!
I have a question please, after Robert Plant sings what a whole lotta love i ear a reversed pick slide, and nobody is mentioning it in any tutorial ??? thank you
Ok so for that what I do is i get a pencil or something that’s made of metal or aluminum but it has to be flat so that it can glide across the board. So what you do is you grab the pencil and you start on 7th fret and just slide the pencil up to 1st or 2nd fret. While doing this strum only the B and G strings. Btw only strum them at 7 and then keep going up. Hope this helps :)
I wish you could share how you get those tones for the songs. Its awesome
Cut the bass a fair bit, boost the mids a lot, boost the treble a bit. Add just enough distortion to sound "rude", no more
What amp r u using? N what levels on dials plz? Perfect tone to match song! Wow
Lpscrafts777 Lester Nielson It’s a fuzz face into a Plexi. My usual settings for Jimmy are roughly B5 M6 T6 P6/7.
Gain on about 3/4. Nothing major.
I’ve got a victory sheriff 22.
He’s famous for using Marshall, vox and orange though. 🤘🏻😎
Brilliant............ are you putting the guitar through the focus rite box in the background if you are what program are you using or what is the amp
Yes I am. The software is called BIAS FX/BIAS AMP.
I have a Victory Sheriff 22 and a Laney L20H for my actual amps which sometimes feature in the covers!
It's just a little more practical to be able to record straight in to Logic when teaching.
Beginner rock guitar lesson series please
hello there and thanks for teaching me a great song! whole lotta love! question? why when I learn Zep songs do my fingers get ripped open? i noticed this with dazed and confused.. is it Jimmy or me? i have pads on my fingers and practice every day but zep leads kill me!
In the solo the bass or the kick is really strong how do
They get that sound??
What happened to the famous pick slide?
