Hello I’m new to your channel and I have a quick question. So I’m growing sunflowers, cosmos, nasturtiums, and strawberries. They are all very young and just sprouting, but I notice I’m seeing holes in the leaf stems, especially my sunflowers. I check the leaves saved stem to see if I see what they called aphids and there wasn’t any?
Do you have any advice on what’s eating my sunflowers and how do I stop whatever it is?

Hello, welcome to my gardening channel and thank you for watching my video. Im sorry to hear that you are dealing with insects/pests in your home garden. Aphids don't make holes on stems nor the leaves. They would look like clusters of black pepper specks all over the plant. They live on the plant and suck out the juices. They prefer young, tender growth the most as its very sweet to them, and after they feed on these juices they secrete sticky/honey dew like substance which makes the leaves of your plant feel sticky and look glossy/wet almost. Aphids also come hand in hand with ants typically because they are attracted to aphid secretions. So with younger sunflowers, that don't yet have the bloom there are 2 pests that make holes in the leaves; it could be a sunflower beetle (They are round beetles with a red-brown head and cream-colored wings covered in reddish-brown longitudinal stripes.)Adult feeding creates shotholes in the leaves, and larvae eat transparent windows into the leaves. It can also be a thistle caterpillar,(they come in a variety of colors from light green to black, with a light stripe down both sides, and branching spines all over their bodies.)The larvae feed on the leaves, creating irregularly shaped holes, and surround themselves with webbing. There are other pests that attack sunflowers but those target other parts of the flower and don't make holes.I would recommend using insecticidal soaps or neem oil products to kill these pests. Neem oil comes in a form of a concentrate, ready to use spray and even in an organic water soluble form as well. I hope I was able to help you out and answer your question. Please let me know if you have anymore questions. Please keep me updated on your beautiful flowers and their growth. Be well and Happy Gardening!!!
