Music, on the other hand, was pure virtue signalling, as far as I can tell. Sia wanted to feel like she was doing something wonderful and noble for those poor autistic people and failed miserably.

There are actors who can make this kind of material work. Sean Penn in I Am Sam, Larry Drake on L.A. Law are just two examples that spring to my mind. Rosie O'Donnell does not have that skillset. She makes that character into an obnoxious, dubious monster. There's nothing poignant or sympathetic about her performance. We don't feel anything for her except annoyed and irritated.
